In the two hundred years since the Ravkan Civil War, Ravka has changed for better and worse. Airfleets determine military might. Wars are colder. Radicals murmur of the monarchy’s end. Through all of this, the Second Army endures, still a force to be reckoned with.
When Jude Duarte is seven, her parents are branded traitors to the Ravkan throne and killed.
