For a Kiss

Summary:

She can feel Tsuyu’s eyes boring into her back and she feels the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. She wants to turn around and tell everyone to stop looking, but she doesn’t want to turn away from Yaoyorozu.

“Let’s do this quickly.” Ochako mutters.

“Right. Yes.” Yaoyorozu nods.

———

It must have been the mistletoe,
The lazy fire, the falling snow.

Notes:

Hello hello!

It is five minutes to midnight so technically this isn't late yet.

This fic is for my '12 Days of Christmas' prompt event fills. It's a fluffy, soft, getting together fic centred around everyone's favourite gravity girl. She's horribly in love with one Creation Hero and, well, Tsuyu's teasing doesn't help at all. There is also background TodoDeku that is featured at the end so watch out for that I suppose.

The prompt options for this one were as follows: letters, magic, mistletoe, and music. I went with mistletoe because just look at how much fluff I can get up to with it.

I will write a blog post for this tomorrow.

No warnings apply.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

The dorms are alight with the holidays, lights and decorations everywhere, courtesy of Yaoyorozu, and everyone seems to be excited. The food smells wonderful and the tree looks stunning and everything is so bright and wonderful. Ochako really couldn’t be happier.

“You look like a kid in a candy store.” Someone says.

Ochako huffs and puts her hands on her hips. “You’re just not excited enough, Deku.”

Midoriya snorts a laugh and nudges her shoulder like an over friendly cat. “We can't all have stars in our eyes.”

“Really? The All Might fanboy that gets equally as excited every time he sees All Might despite the fact that we’ve been his students for over a year and a half is telling me only one of us has stars in our eyes?” Ochako gives him a playful look.

Midoriya blushes. “Rude. Why am I your best friend again?”

“Because, as an introvert, you had to be adopted by an extrovert.” Ochako grins.

“Ah, right.” Midoriya’s eye roll is almost audible.

“Hush, Deku, and let me geek out about this.” She shoves him. This only makes him laugh more as he stumbles back. It hadn’t been a light shove by any means, but Midoriya is essentially a little brick house so it doesn’t have as much of an effect on him as Ochako would have liked. But oh well.

“Fine, fine.” Midoriya rolls his eyes, “Just don’t get drunk.”

Ochako stares at him, wide eyed. “Someone brought alcohol?”

“Do you really doubt Kaminari and the gang?” Midoriya counters.

“Fair point.” Ochako sighs, “And I think you should be the one I’m worried about.”

Midoriya swats her shoulder. “Gods, you’re horrible.”

“Shush your ever flapping gobtalker, Deku.” Ochako shoots him a grin.

“Right back at you, angelface.” Midoriya says.

Ochako doesn’t even get to smack him for being cheeky as he retreats away from her. She huffs and smiles at him fondly, crossing her arms. Then she turns to her classmates and looks at everyone being happy and excited for a moment. It’s really nice to see everyone so happy and lively and all that.

Unfortunately, she can already see a few people that are just a little drunk on whatever cheap alcohol. Kaminari is hanging off Sero’s arm, stumbling as he walks, but Sero only smiles fondly at him. Gods, he’s so weak for Kaminari, isn’t he. Ochako’s been trying to get him to talk to Kaminari for a long time now, but he’d always managed to weasel out of it. But no matter, she’ll get him to talk to Kaminari before they graduate.

“Hey, Ochako.”

Ochako turns and gives Tsuyu a smile. “Hey.”

Tsuyu puts a finger to her chin and says, “How are you enjoying things so far?’

“I’ve only been here for two minutes.” Ochako admits, “Deku needed help with his makeup.”

“Ah,” Tsuyu nods a little, “Well, it looks really good.”

“Thanks!” Ochako beams, “He’s gotten better at the whole eyeliner thing.”

“He has.” Tsuyu nods. Then something seems to catch her eye and she says, “Seems Todoroki got some help with their makeup as well.”

Ochako looks up and spots a familiar head of mismatched hair across the sea of people. She smiles faintly when she notices them (their hair is growing out really well!) and she brightens when she sees their face. Todoroki looks really good, practically ethereal. They look much more confident than they did when Ochako first met them and she’s so happy for them.

And, by the looks of it, Midoriya thinks they look as good as Ochako thinks they do. Especially since he’s blushing and stuttering even more as he tries to hold up a normal conversation with Todoroki.

Ochako would love to hear what they’re talking about, but she won’t interrupt lest they get distracted from each other.

“They look good together.” Tsuyu says, eyes still fixed on Todoroki and Midoriya.

“They do, don’t they?” Ochako muses, “Too bad neither of them have said anything.”

Tsuyu turns to look at her incredulously. “It’s mutual?”

“I talked to Todoroki the other day. It’s mutual.” Ochako nods, smiling at her.

“They really trust you.” Tsuyu says.

“And I’m glad for it.” Ochako says with a soft smile, “I’m so happy they’ve opened up more. It’s good that they have a support system.”

“And you’re a good person to be a support system.” Tsuyu smiles, “I’m sure they’d do the same for you.”

Ochako just grins and hugs Tsuyu. Tsuyu hugs her back and the two just bask in each other’s presence for a moment. It’s nice, having a friend like Tsuyu.

That is, until she asks, “So, how’s your crush?”

“Tsuuuuu-” Ochako whines and puts her hands over her face, “You’re terrible.”

“No I’m not.” Tsuyu says, “And I’m assuming that your crush is still going strong.”

“Stoppit!” Ochako huffs and crosses her arms, cheeks puffed out. “We aren’t discussing my love life right now.”

“We aren’t?” Tsuyu gives her a blank look. Then she looks over Ochako’s shoulder and says, “Speak of the devil, she’s right there.”

Ochako gabs Tsuyu’s shoulders and hisses, “Please. Don’t.”

Tsuyu sighs, “Fine, fine. I won’t. Yet.”

“I take it back, you’re terrible.” Ochako huffs. Tsuyu just rolls her eyes, takes her hand, and drags her toward the food and drinks.

————————————

It really isn’t Ochako’s fault that is happened. Really, it isn’t. She wasn’t aware there was this sort of thing at this party which, now that she thinks about it, doesn’t make sense. It’s a Christmas party, of course there’s this sort of thing.

Of course there’s mistletoe at a Christmas party and of course Ochako is caught under it with the very girl that she just so happens to have a massive crush on.

As of now, Ochako is flushed right up to her ears, hands steepled in front of her mouth as she looks anywhere but at the girl in front of her. Why did it have to be her that got caught in this situation? She watches, flustered out of her mind, when Yaoyorozu tucks her hair behind her ear, blushing delicately. She really is far too pretty. Rich, pretty, smart, she really does have it all. Ochako never looks at her face, just watches her hands for a long moment.

“Well?” Yaoyorozu’s voice is small, a little nervous. “Um… if you’re uncomfortable with it, you don’t have to?”

“N-No, it’s okay! I’m not!” Ochako squeaks. “It’s fine!”

Ochako stands up on her toes and closes her eyes. Yaoyorozu leans forward and, with the quickest, fastest motion, pecks Ochako on the lips. She doesn’t even really truly kiss Ochako, her own mouth touching the corner of Ochako’s lips, and it lasts for approximately a millisecond. There are a few joking, disappointed noises from the crowd, but Ochako pays them no mind.

And, because shame seems to be the only thing on her mind right now, her cheeks burn and she quickly slips past Yaoyorozu, running off down the hallway.

Someone calls her name, someone that doesn’t sound like Yaoyorozu, but she doesn’t really care. She’s too embarrassed and too flustered to really process anything else right now, all she’s thinking about is running for her damn life.

————————————

Spending the time that’s supposed to be a Christmas party in her room hugging a plushie and scrolling through hero articles on her phone isn’t exactly what she’d expected this evening, but alas, here she is. She doesn’t mind spending time alone, but with the way her cheeks won’t cool down, she isn’t exactly going to be having a restful time alone.

She’s still stewing over the fact that her crush sort of almost kissed her but not really and all Ochako had to say to her was exactly nothing. She’d shown Yaoyorozu her back and run for it like a coward. What kind of hero runs away from something like that?

The knock at her door is entirely unwanted.

“I don’t wanna talk right now, Tsu.” Ochako says, hopefully loud enough that Tsuyu can hear.

There’s a pause.

Then another knock.

“Deku, if that’s you, please go away. I can get you makeup wipes tomorrow.” Ochako calls.

The knock comes quicker this time.

Ochako groans and rolls onto her back. “Please just leave me alone!”

A soft voice says, “Uraraka? Please let me in?”

Ochako sits bolt upright, face paling in record time. That isn’t Deku, that isn’t Tsuyu, that isn’t anyone she’d thought it might be. That’s Yaoyorozu.

Oh no, oh no, oh no.

“Uraraka, please.” Yaoyorozu calls.

Ochako scrubs at her face with her hands, slowly standing up. She walks slowly to her dorm door and opens it, not caring that her hair is a bit of a mess.

Yaoyorozu still has her hair down. She gives Ochako a small, awkward smile. “Can I… come in?”

“Uh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, sorry.” Ochako quickly moves out of the way and gestures for Yaoyorozu to enter her room. Yaoyorozu bows a little and steps inside. Ochako closes the door behind her and suddenly but not unexpectedly, the air of the room turns sour with awkwardness.

They’re both fidgeting, avoiding each other’s eyes, and Ochako really didn’t think Yaoyorozu had that kind of reaction to nervousness. In fact, Ochako didn’t know Yaoyorozu could be nervous in that way, and she ponders over this fact for a long moment. It’s cute, she decides, and then immediately regrets deciding this because now she’s thinking about Yaoyorozu being cute and that is definitely not good for her.

But her cheeks ignore her inner protests and reasoning, heating up and going pinker than usual in a perfectly visible display of how flustered she is.

“So…” Yaoyorozu starts.

Ochako bites her lip and stares at the floor. She hears Yaoyorozu clear her throat, clearly searching for something to say.

Finally, Ochako blurts, “If you want to forget it ever happened, that’s okay. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable or awkward or anything, you probably don’t even like girls or me for that matter and I shouldn’t have forced you into it. We can forget it ever happened if you want I don’t mind I’m sorry.”

And maybe she’d picked up on Midoriya’s rambling habit, but she isn’t acknowledging that right now. Now is really not the time.

Yaoyorozu is quiet for a long time.

Ochako fears the worst.

“Uraraka, I don’t want to forget it happened.” Yaoyorozu says slowly, voice oddly timid, “I… if you didn’t ever want it to happen, say so. I don’t want to hear what you think I want to hear, I want to hear what you want to say.”

Oh.

“Um…” Ochako blinks and looks up at her. “W-Well… I um…”

“And if you think I don’t like girls, you are wholly and completely wrong.” Yaoyorozu adds, blush rising in her own cheeks in a way that makes her even more unfairly pretty.

Ochako’s eyes widen to the sizes of tennis balls. Before she can stop herself, she blurts, “Do you like me?”

She can almost hear Tsuyu telling her she shouldn’t have said that outright but she can’t really take back what she’d said now.

Yaoyorozu stares at her for a long moment. Then she blushes a little more and whispers, “Maybe?”

“Maybe?” Ochako squeaks, “So you don’t… regret the kiss?”

“What? No!” Yaoyorozu cries, “Uraraka, if it really gets down to it, I’ve been trying to figure out how to tell you how I feel for weeks now! I wouldn’t have liked to do it because of some stupid mistletoe, but-”

“You like me.” Ochako interrupts her, “You like me.”

“Um… yes?” Yaoyorozu winces, “Is that… a bad thing?”

“No! No, no it’s a good thing. A really good thing.” Ochako stutters.

“I see.” A slow smile is working its way onto Yaoyorozu’s face. “And… do you like me?”

“Yeah-” Ochako’s voice cracks and she clears her throat as more heat rushes into her cheeks, “Yeah. Uh. A lot.”

“So you wouldn’t be opposed if I kissed you again?” The hope in Yaoyorozu’s eyes is such a good look on her and Ochako would die had she not already been so very dead.

“Go for it.” Ochako rasps, voice suddenly gone.

————————————

“Think Uraraka’s doing okay?” Midoriya wonders.

Shouto gently combs their fingers through his wild, curly hair. “I’m sure she’s fine.”

“I’m just worried.” Midoriya hums, “She looked upset.”

“Yaoyorozu went after her, remember?” Shouto reminds him, “Everything will turn out fine.”

“If you say so, Shou.” Midoriya lifts his head from where it had been resting on their chest and Shouto gets a full, perfect view of Midoriya’s smiling, freckled face. They catch their breath at the way the light reflects in his eyes and they just stare, unashamed, for a long moment.

“I do say so.” Shouto nods a little.

Midoriya just smiles and leans forward to press a kiss to their carefully glossed lips. It’s a little sticky and odd and rather cherry flavoured, but Shouto really doesn’t mind. Neither does Midoriya, it seems. When he pulls back, Shouto’s eyes flutter open just in time to watch as he licks his lips free of the bit of glittering, cherry flavoured stuff.

“I wonder if she’ll ever find out.” Midoriya’s hand is calloused and rough but ever so gentle when he moves it to cup Shouto’s cheek.

Shouto leans into the touch, letting their eyes fall shut, pressing their skin just a little more snugly together. “Does she need to find out?”

Midoriya hums, “I suppose not.”

“We can tell her when we’re both ready.” Shouto says, “Either way, I’m honoured you’re my boyfriend.”

“And I’m honoured you’re my partner.” Midoriya’s smile is evident in his voice.

And, with the worry sufficiently abated, Midoriya eventually falls asleep on Shouto’s chest, where they both will stay until morning when makeup pulls at their skin and sunlight warms their faces.

So long as I have you.
