"what are you doing for valentine's, hyung?" jimin asked as he sat on the couch, bouncing jeongguk on his knee while holding onto jeongguk's hands, humming softly as he moved his hands along, making it seem like jeongguk was dancing. "do you want me to look after ggukie?"
"aren't you going somewhere with taehyung?" yoongi asked curiously, not looking away from the soup simmering in the pot.
"he's going out of town for a photoshoot," jimin said with a sigh. "he tried to decline it but his agency was insistent, offering double pay and we couldn't say no to that."
"well, you don't need a special day to be romantic, i suppose," yoongi said. "plus, everything is so expensive on that day. it feels like all the businesses are taking advantage of couples."
"is that why you got the roses early?" jimin queried, glancing at the bucket of roses on the dining table. they were beautiful, huge blooms, vibrant red, and fragrant. the thorns were cut off and each of them was wrapped with a soft pink ribbon.
"oh, no, they're not for seokjin," yoongi said, finally turning off the heat and putting the lid on the pot. "we're going to give them away to those people who spoil jeongguk a lot as a thank you."
"aw, that's sweet," jimin said, pulling jeongguk closer so he can tickle jeongguk's tummy. "you're going to be such a charmer, aren't you?"
"he's already a charmer," yoongi said as he rolled his eyes.
"i don't mind being charmed by him," jimin said as he hugged jeongguk close. "and i'm sure all of those people don't mind either."
and so, yoongi and jeongguk went out the next day, carrying a bucket of roses to give away. their first stop was the newsagency near the playground that jeongguk frequented. they sold colorful, printed balloons and jeongguk were always fascinated by them. the owner was an elderly lady and she always gave him one for free whenever he wanted one, refusing yoongi's money when he tried to pay.
"nonsense," the lady had said as she watched jeongguk run around happily with the balloon. "i'd do the same for my grandson whenever i see him. it's been a while since they last visited, and i love watching you two. it makes me feel better."
yoongi gave jeongguk one of the roses, helping him grab the stem, and told him to go give the rose to the elderly lady. she was just finishing up ringing up a customer when jeongguk squealed and barreled straight into her legs, crushing the rose between himself and her legs.
"oh ho," the lady said excitedly when she looked down at jeongguk. "if it isn't one of my favourite babies. how are you doing today, jeonggukie?"
"goo!" jeongguk replied as he presented the rose to her.
"for me?" the lady asked, gasping happily. "that's really sweet of you."
jeongguk beamed at the praise, and butted his head against her hand, asking to be pet. the lady took the rose from him, and gifted him a heart-shaped balloon.
"oh, no, that was supposed to be a thank you gift," yoongi said quickly, trying to give the balloon back to the lady.
"well, i'm thanking you for your thank you gift," she said as she chuckled. "just take it, yoongi, and have yourself a great valentine's day."
"thank you," yoongi replied. "you too."
they continued on, giving roses to the volunteer for story time at the local library, to the owner of a sweets cafe who always gave jeongguk an extra bowl of strawberries for the chocolate fountain, to the lifeguard at the local pool, and more.
the volunteer had cuddled jeongguk and refused to let go, then gave him a pack of baby biscuits. the owner of the sweets cafe gave them a box of chocolates, and the lifeguard had given them a handful of apple gummies.
"why am i seeing a pattern here?" yoongi asked to himself as he watched jeongguk chew happily on his apple gummy while they walked towards their next destination.
they left with a bucket of roses, and by the time they were finished, they still had four roses left, and yoongi was struggling with a bag of gifts that they had received.
when they got home, yoongi put all the gifts in the living room and carried jeongguk towards the bathroom. he ran a bath and plucked the petals of the remaining roses, putting them in the bath water. he waited for the water to warm before he turned it off and helped jeongguk out of his clothes and into the tub.
"da!" jeongguk exclaimed as he splashed the water, grabbed a big and vibrant petal, and offered it to yoongi.
"for me?" yoongi asked, grinning dopily at jeongguk.
jeongguk nodded, lifting his arm high so he could press the petal against the apple of yoongi's cheek. the warm water helped it stick, and yoongi pressed a kiss against jeongguk's palm.
jeongguk looked pleased with himself and picked out another big petal to stick onto yoongi's other cheek.
"am i pretty?" yoongi asked, leaning down to kiss jeongguk's forehead, and jeongguk nodded firmly. "thanks, ggukie."
after they were done with their bath, yoongi and jeongguk returned to the living room to wait for seokjin to come home. he had promised to get some takeout from their favourite fried chicken place, insisting that he didn't want yoongi to do too many chores on valentine's day of all days.
"i'm home!" seokjin called out when he got back, finally.
"da!" jeongguk squealed as he squirmed in yoongi's hold, kicking his feet in excitement.
seokjin walked over to them with a wide grin. "i don't even want to know if he's more excited to see me or the chicken."
"the chicken, probably," yoongi deadpanned.
seokjin looked down at the pile of gifts on the table curiously. "where did you get all the presents from? should i be jealous?"
"that depends. are you jealous of a baby?"
