Adjusting

Summary:

Yui's arrival at the office was brief, and it caused confusion all around, but mostly on Yui's end.

Notes:

I know that Yui never went into the office, but I really wanted to write something about him. He's one of my favorite characters and we haven't seen many interactions with him and the rest of the teens from the kemono office

This is entirely self-indulgent and I also wanted to hint at the relationship between Akira and Shiki for a later fic

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Since arriving at the Kemono Office with Akira, Yui had felt out of place.

He wasn't accustomed to being with other people his age. He didn't know how to interact with Kabane, Shiki, or even his own twin at times.

Akira, being Yui's brother, understood him the best out of the young teens. It also helped that Akira had a grasp of the trauma he had suffered through at the village. But his twin would never understand the feeling of constantly being filthy. Akira was blessed with the feeling of not having to carry the guilt of killing your own children.

Yet, Akira was eager to teach Yui everything he had missed out on and fill in the year long gap in which they were separated . And Yui approached everything with a cautious, but eager attitude.

Although Kabane was the youngest out of the teens, the two kemono's somehow managed to understand one another . The two didn't speak much, but the sapphire-haired teen could see that the ghoul had endured more hardships than someone his age should have .

Much like himself.

Yui felt a brotherly pull towards the raven-haired teen, but it was a different pull than with his own twin.

He wanted to form a bond with the kid and allow for him to have someone to rely on and at least somewhat understand. Unlike himself.

The most difficult teen to read was Shiki.

Yui had seen the hybrid snap at Akira, causing him to almost fight the other teen. Thankfully , his twin had intervened and explained to him that, while Shiki appeared mean and sometimes snapped at him and Kabane, the purple haired teen was actually quite a caring and considerate person .

This explanation angered the arachnid, but Yui didn’t find the need to defend himself or Akira when he saw the flustered expression the teen carried . Akira smiled at the action and used Shiki’s embarrassment as more evidence to show Yui that the boy wasn’t as mean as he tried to come off .

But, now that Yui had a slightly better understanding of the younger teen, he now had to seek the reason on why Shiki would rather show himself as someone who was rude and uncaring, despite it clashing with his personality . Or at least what Akira had described to him.

Yui also questioned why Akira seemed to be the main target for Shiki’s jabs and offhand remarks.

But one mystery at a time.
