Work Text:
Aizawa woke up, facing the window, to snow.
Not much else, just snow.
And Mic standing over him, fully dressed, and beaming.
"Sho, look outside! It's snowing!"
"So it is." Aizawa rolled over. "We'll have to get Todoroki or Bakugo to get us a path through that so we can get to the main schoo-"
"Not today," Mic interrupted, beaming. "I got a text from Midnight. Nezu says school is out for today because of the snow. Isn't this great?"
"Why is that great?" Aizawa yawned. "You're saying we can go back to sleep?"
"No!" Mic was practically glowing. "It means the whole class is going out and having fun. Let's get dressed."
Aizawa stuck his head under his pillow.
Mic yanked it away.
Aizawa pulled the blanket over his head.
Mic yanked that away too. "Shotaaaaaa!"
"Go away."
"No way. Not today. We're going out and playing in the snow. The whole class! Doesn't that sound fun?"
"Go," Aizawa repeated, "away."
There was a knock at the door.
Mic looked oddly at it. "Who could that be?"
"I'm going back to sleep" was Aizawa's only comment as Mic tucked a loose strand of hair into his ponytail and went to answer the door.
"Sorry to bother you so early, Sensei," apologized a pajama-clad Kaminari Denki, awkwardly shuffling one foot on the floor. "But- uh- Aoyama's been throwing up for about fifteen minutes straight. And Kirishima also, and he's got a fever, and so do Tokoyami and Sero, and Iida's also been sick a few times, and Mineta-"
Aizawa sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the bed, take-charge mode taking charge. "Is anyone not sick? And what about the girls?"
"Um, I don't know about the girls. Koda and I were kinda running around and trying to help the guys. Iida said I should call you."
"So much for snow," Aizawa commented in an undertone to Mic, who was now donning a casual T-shirt and jeans. "Looks like we're playing at nursemaids today."
Mic was dispatched to go and check on the girls, while Aizawa followed Kaminari to the boys' rooms. "When did you notice this was going on?"
"Koda came to check on me," Kaminari explained as they walked. "He said he had been woken up by Sero, and then when he was trying to help him he heard Bakugo, so he started knocking on doors trying to find out who was sick and who wasn't so he could find help."
Aizawa nodded. "Any symptoms besides fever and vomiting?"
"Not that I know of. Kinda seems like food poisoning, which would explain why I don't have it."
"Do tell."
"Yaomomo was tutoring me and Koda and Ashido last night when everybody was up late. Maybe they ate something bad from the fridge."
He looked thoughtful. "Makes me glad I wasn't there, in retrospect."
"I can imagine," Aizawa said dryly as he knocked lightly on Midoriya's door. "Midoriya?"
There was the sound of coughing, and then a weak and decidedly miserable 'yeah?' from within.
"Go and tell Present Mic to get everyone downstairs into the common area," Aizawa instructed Kaminari as he opened the door. "I have a feeling we're going to be doing a lot of running around otherwise."
As it happened, Yaoyorozu and Ashido were the only ones among the girls not pale-faced and sweaty. Most of them had brought their blankets. Aizawa met them in the common room with the boys in tow, all of whom had their blankets wrapped around their shoulders.
"All right, all of you." Aizawa clapped his hands. "Get comfortable- couches, floors, wherever. No fighting."
The last statement, however, was fairly unnecessary as not even Bakugo had any strength for anything except flopping down in various attitudes over any available surface.
Kirishima gave a strangled, choking cough and slapped both hands over his mouth.
"Make a bucket, please, Yaoyorozu," Mic said hurriedly.
While Kaminari, Ashido, and Koda were getting everyone settled, Aizawa went into the kitchen and set out a line of glasses on the counter. Ice in the freezer- most of it crushed, but that was fine, there was a lot of it- fill up the glasses, mostly ice, a little water- turn on the stove, put a pot of water and up to boil, slice in some vegetables and toss in some chicken stock.
Yaoyorozu created several more buckets and Kaminari and Mic assisted her in passing them out. Koda and Ashido and presently Aizawa helped to distribute the water and ice, and occasionally to urge a reluctant classmate to actually drink.
"Come on," Ashido wheedled, trying to coax Sato's head out from under his blanket. She gently pulled the coverlet back a few inches. "Just a little."
"...don' wan' any," Sato mumbled, and curled up again.
"Not too fast," Aizawa cautioned as Bakugo gripped the glass and took a gulp of water. "Small sips, or you'll-"
Bakugo suddenly gagged.
"Yeah," Aizawa sighed over the violent sound of the water coming back up. "That."
Bakugo's responding glare upon emerging from the bucket was rather a weaker edition of his usual, though he did allow Aizawa to support him as he regained his breath, furiously knuckled at his eyes, rinsed his mouth and drank again.
"Can you get a couple of wet washcloths?" Ashido whispered to Koda as she bent over Jiro. "Some of them are feverish. Iida, what are you doing?"
"As class rep..." Iida was struggling weakly out of his blanket. "It's my duty to..."
The rest of his sentence ended in a moan and was lost in his bucket.
"It's your duty to get better so you can resume your duties," Yaoyorozu finished, and held out a fresh glass of water. "Have some of this and then lay down again. We've got it under control, okay?"
Iida protested reluctantly for a moment, but obeyed. Koda headed to the laundry room for the washcloths.
Aizawa took an empty bucket to the kitchen to fill it with cool water, then checked on the soup pot. It was bubbling merrily, so he lowered the flame and took a taste.
More salt.
"M...mom?" Todoroki mumbled softly as Mic gently placed a wet washcloth on his forehead. He twitched a bit at the cool dampness, eyelids fluttering. "Mom?"
"Nope, just Mic, kiddo." His teacher tucked the blanket around his chin. "You're gonna be okay. Just rest up now."
"Mmmmh," Todoroki protested faintly, but slept.
Uraraka's blanket kept hovering slightly off her body, making her shiver each time. Ashido wrapped her up more securely and carefully brushed her sweaty bangs out of her face.
Thanks, Uraraka mouthed gratefully. Ashido smiled.
"No problem. Here-" and applied a washcloth. Uraraka sighed and fell into a drowse.
An hour later, Aizawa went into the kitchen to turn off the soup, then found on his return that Kaminari had finally fallen asleep on the floor beside Midoriya and a lump of blanket that could only be Hagakure. Koda was slumbering next to Shoji, Ashido was curled up with her head pillowed on Ojiro's tail, and Yaoyorozu's legs dangled off the edge of the couch where she had sat down for just a moment, head lolling sideways onto the armrest.
Mic slung an arm around Aizawa's shoulders, smiling at the cozy scene before them. "Look at them all, Sho. Aren't they sweet?"
"Well," Aizawa replied grimly, "they are sleeping."
"Oh, you big kidder." Mic swatted him playfully. "Well... I guess they'll be mostly fine when they wake up. Sore, maybe, nothing your soup can't fix. How'd it come out, by the way?"
"We're almost out of salt," Aizawa replied. Mic swatted him again.
Jiro was the first to wake.
She blinked slowly, remembering.
She definitely felt better, but still tired and sore.
No one else looked to be awake yet. Iida was snoring softly. Kaminari- when had he fallen asleep?- had a lock of hair plastered to his cheek, and Tsu's washcloth had slipped sideways down her face, obscuring one enormous eye.
Jiro yawned a little, got comfortable, and went back to sleep.
After a short nap of his own and around evening, Aizawa went into the kitchen to dole out the re-heated soup into bowls.
"Do not," he warned Mic, "use your quirk to wake them up. Shake them or something, but don't use your quirk."
"This isn't my first rodeo, Shota, come on." Mic stuck out his lower lip in a mock pout. "I'm a teacher. I'm good with kids."
Aizawa raised an eyebrow and gestured with his ladle. "Okay, so go wake them up."
Mic snapped a cheery salute and headed into the common room.
He started with Yaoyorozu, whose neck position made him wince. The girl startled awake the moment his hand touched her shoulder.
"Sensei! I- oh no, what time is it?"
"Little after six. Dinner time!" Mic replied brightly. "The sooner we get all these awake, the sooner we eat. Aizawa made soup."
"That sounds nice...." With a small yawn, Yaoyorozu rolled her neck until the crick was gone and then moved to help rouse her classmates.
"I don' even like pudding mouse," Kirishima protested sleepily, only half-awake, as he tried to shrug Yaoyorozu away. "Ta'e it home."
A few minutes later, everyone was awake, Ashido picking hairs out of her mouth. Sato yawned and stretched a bit, bumping into Bakugo and effectively waking him up entirely. Mic rushed in before there could be a debacle.
"Everyone feeling better?" he asked cheerfully, helping Aizawa pass out bowls. "Eat up if you can, and try just a little if you can't. Anyone having trouble?"
There was a general consensus of tired slurping.
Aizawa silently collected the buckets and took them upstairs to dispose of them, while Mic made sure everyone was comfortable and fed. The snow still hadn't ceased falling.
"Why is the soup so salty?" Aoyama asked drowsily, once he'd had a few spoonfuls.
"I like it," Tsu put in. "Kerou."
Iida finished his soup and began chivvying others to do the same as it was essential that they get better so as not to miss any schooling.
When Aizawa returned, nearly a third of his students had fallen asleep again. Mic was tucking in those that hadn't, humming softly to himself and stacking soup bowls neatly out of the way. Aizawa took them and dumped them all in the sink.
"Some snow day, huh?" Mic whispered as he shut the light and joined Aizawa in the kitchen. "Poor kids. At least no one's sick anymore."
Aizawa rolled up his sleeves to start on the dishes. "I'll wash, you dry."
"Think they'll be okay by tomorrow?"
"Probably. I'd let them sleep the last of it off, though."
"Should we move them? Nah, they look so cute out there like that. Wonder if Nezu will cancel tomorrow too."
Aizawa shrugged, and handed over another clean bowl to be dried.
Outside, snow continued to fall.
