Work Text:
Denki was not ready for this. It’s been a month since Shinsou’s transferred to class 1-A and let’s just say, Denki’s taken way too many God damned cold showers. If he tried to crank it any colder, he might as well just ask Todorki to encase him in ice. It didn’t help that Shinsou’s so fucking smooth at flirting and that he literally carried Denki bridal style out of a building when he short-circuited.
Like when Shinsou first showed up, suitcase in hand, and a carbon copy of Aizawa, he thought that this would be a piece of cake. Flirt a little, ask Shinsou out on a date, they kiss, and bam! Denki officially has the cutest and hottest boyfriend in the world. But do things always go to plan? No! Of course, they don’t!
“Mina! What do I do?” Denki whines, collapsing on her bed.
“What do you mean, ‘what do you do’?” Mina asks, painting her nails a pastel blue.
“What am I supposed to do about Shinsou? Every time I try to flirt and ask him out, he flirts back smooth as hell! Then I get all tongue-tied and can’t ask him out! He just watches with that smirk on his face before walking away like nothing happened!”
Mina puts the cap back on the nail polish bottle, “Denks, I told you Shinsou would most definitely wreck you.”
“Not very helpful!” Denki pouts, grabbing the white nail polish and starting a coat on his fingers.
“What’s not helpful?” Sero asks from the door, “You guys are doing manicures without me? I’m offended.”
“Sorry,” Mina says, “We had to start without you, Denki’s having a mini breakdown about his crush.”
“Oh, you mean Shinsou?” Sero asks, sitting next to him on the bed, “Why don’t you just ask him out already?”
Denki groaned, “I already told Mina! Every time I try, I get tongue-tied because of that fucking smirk and just like-”
“He can’t ask Shinsou out because he’s a bisexual disaster who can’t deal with a bit of flirting from a cute insomniac.,” Mina interrupts.
“And a bottom on top of that,” Sero adds, earning a smack on the arm from Denki.
“That too.”
“Are you guys still talking about Pikachu’s obsession with eye bags?” Bakugou thunders from the door.
“It’s not an obsession!” Denki cries out.
“Tch, that’s the biggest fucking lie I’ve ever heard.”
“Bakugou!” Kirishima says behind him, “Language!”
Bakugou rolled his eyes before walking inside Mina’s room as well. Kirishima followed him and they both take a seat on the ground next to the bed.
Blowing on her nails, Mina says, “Denki, it’s really not that hard. Just walk up to Shinsou, ask him if he wants to go out for coffee or something and that’s it! I’m pretty sure even Midoriya can do that with Todoroki if he knew how gay Todoroki is.”
“Can you not bring up the fucking nerd?” Bakugou growls.
“Sorry,” Mina shrugged, “It was a good example.”
Bakugou huffed, “Racoon eyes is right, just tell eye bags that you fucking like him already. We can’t deal with your hissy fits anymore.”
“Did Bakugou just agree with me?” Mina squealed excitedly.
“He did,” Sero says, “It’s the eighth wonder of the world!”
“You know what? I’m not sticking around here for Dunce Face to keep whining,” Bakugou said, “I’m leaving.”
“But Katsuki! We just got here!” Kirishima says from the red nail polish he was trying out.
“I don’t care,” the explosive blond growled, “I’m leaving,” he repeated.
Kirishima sighs before getting up and following his boyfriend out, “Sorry guys, he’s in a bad mood today.”
“When is he not?” Mina and Sero chorused
Denki snickered before applying some template stickers on his nails and swiping on another coat of polish.
When he was done with his manicure, he held them up and admired them. He did a good job. All of his nails were white with little black cats at the base of each one. He decided to keep it simple and not draw any faces on them.
“So when are you going to fess up?” Sero asked him after helping Mina do an intricate chevron pattern on her nails.
“I don’t know! Today? Tomorrow? Never?”
“Sero, Denki doesn’t even need to confess! The entire class, including Shinsou, already knows he has a mega huge crush!” Mina says, “Denki just needs to ask Shinsou out.”
“Okay fine, when are you going to ask Shinsou out?” Sero corrected.
“Like I said, I don’t know!”
“Do it today then, if you don’t know. We’ll decide for you,” Mina says.
“But how? And where am I asking him out to?” Denki asks, mildly frustrated that this Bakusquad meeting has gone absolutely nowhere in the past hour.
“There’s a cat cafe a few bus stops away,” Sero suggested, “You two can ask Aizawa if you can head out for the weekend.”
“Yeah!” Mina added, “And turn the flirting notch down a little, Shinsou won’t be as tempted to flirt back if you don’t flirt as aggressively.”
“I do not flirt aggressively!”
That earned a snort from Sero and a massive eye roll from Mina.
“Sure.”
Denki took this as his cue to leave the room. If only Mina and Sero knew how hard it was for him to talk to Shinsou despite the fact that he could flirt with anyone else. There was just something about the purple-haired boy that had his heart racing three hundred miles an hour and his throat close up.
Shaking his head, he decided to head down the common room to get something to eat. It was just his luck that Shinsou was also in the kitchen, probably making his fourth cup of coffee for the day.
“Hey Shinsou!” Denki says, trying to calm his nerves as he opens the fridge to look for any remaining treats from yesterday’s bake-off
“Hey Kaminari,” then after a pause, “No terrible puns today?” Shinsou asked in amusement.
Denki almost died right there, “No, I’m too wiped out by the squad to come up with anything witty right now.”
“What did they do? Tie you to a pole and make you sing Justin Bieber songs for the past hour?”
Denki scrunched his eyebrows, “I can’t decide whether that’s kinky or disturbingly terrifying.”
Shinsou raised an eyebrow, “What? Do you have a bondage kink or something?”
Oh fuck, here we go again. Why didn’t he just listen to Mina? “I dunno, gotta figure that out for yourself,” Denki says, trying to control the blush blooming on his cheeks.
Shinsou sets down his cup of coffee and leaned on the kitchen island, “And how do you suggest I do that?”
This was it. He’s done for. ABORT MISSION. ABORT MISSION. I REPEAT, ABORT MISSION.
Despite the fact that his head was flashing a red siren, Denki continued, “You’ll have to figure that out on your own as well, Romeo.”
“Last time I checked, Romeo climbed into Juliet’s window with a rope ladder,” Shinsou smirked.
“Since when do you have a rope ladder?” Denki challenged.
“I don’t,” Shinsou says, “But I do have capture weapon that I can easily maneuver to your dorm window.”
“Who says I’ll open my window for you?”
Shinsou leaned in closer, “Who says you won’t?”
God he really needed to learn when to stop.
“Will the two of you just get a God damned room?” Bakugou yells, approaching the kitchen. “The rest of the class and I would like to be spared our eyes.”
“I agree with Kacchan on that one!” Midoriya shouts somewhere on the couch.
“Shut up fucking Deku!”
As Bakugou went off to pick another fight with Midoriya, Shinsou resumed sipping his coffee and Denki managed to find a chocolate croissant in the oven. Taking a bite, Denki says, “Um, we got way off-topic, but I was wondering if you’d like to uh, go out for coffee sometime?” There, he said it. Now to face the answer.
“Sure, where do you want to go?” Shinsou says casually.
“Sero said something about a cat cafe nearby. We do have to take the bus, but’s it’s not far,” Denki says, trying to process Shinsou’s calm demeanor.
“Cool, when are you free?”
“I was supposed to ask you that!” Denki pouted.
Shinsou smirked, “Too late.”
Denki huffed, “How about tomorrow? It’s still the weekend and most of my homework’s done. Do you have any hero work with Aizawa?”
Shinsou shook his head, “No, I work night shifts so not until seven.”
“Great! Meet you in the common room tomorrow at eleven?”
“Sounds good,” Shinsou says.
“Just so you know,” Denki adds, “This is a date.”
“Okay,” Shinsou says, “Make sure to leave your window open.”
“Sure thing Romeo!” Denki shouted, heading towards the elevator to tell Mina the news.
“I’m counting on it, Juliet!”
Why did Shinsou always get the last word?
