Work Text:
Mina sighed as she settled down on the common room couch. She could finally take a day to relax, scroll through TikTok for hours and binge eat the treats Bakugou stress baked this morning. Denki was officially on his first date with Shinsou and she could finally have a day of silence to rewind. At least, that’s what she thought.
She had barely started on her first cookie when Midoriya approached her.
“Hey Mina-san,” the green-haired boy says shyly, “I have something important I need to discuss with you.”
“Yeah, what’s up?” Mina asks after chewing and swallowing the chocolate chip cookie.
Midoriya scratched the back of his neck nervously, “You might think I’m crazy, but I think Todoroki-kun’s gay.”
Mina just stared at him in disbelief.
“Like I said, I sound crazy, right? But I was talking to Todoroki-kun the other day and I asked him why he didn’t have a girlfriend yet since there seemed to be a lot of girls who like him. He told me about how they didn’t interest him and that he already likes someone. I asked him who this person was, and all he told me was that they certainly weren’t of the female species. And so I just assumed that he was gay I guess? I mean, I guess he could still be bisexual or pansexual or even demisexual? I don’t know, but he said that he didn’t like any girls, so I guess he isn’t straight?” Midoriya continued to lose himself in his rambling.
“Midoriya,” Mina interrupts him.
“Yeah?”
“You do realize that as of right now, everyone knows Todoroki is gay except for you, right? I mean, the first two things you can pick up from him the second you meet him is that, one, he has daddy issues, and two, he’s gay.”
Midoriya looked up at her in confusion. “How come no one’s told me?”
“I mean,” Mina says, twirling her phone in the air for emphasis, “We all thought you would pick up on it since you’re always so observant and writing things down in your notebook. Like, you already knew how gay Kirishima was for Bakugou before he did, so we thought you would figure out that Todoroki’s gay.”
“Oh,” Midoriya says. “But then who does Todoroki-kun have a crush on? He told me earlier today that I knew this person quite well too. At first, I thought he was talking about Uraraku-san, but I remembered that he said it wasn’t a girl. So I thought that maybe he liked Iida-kun? Or maybe Kacchan? But I don’t think it would be Kacchan because you know how Kacchan and Kirishima-kun are already. I’m not sure, I’m still thinking of how it may be Iida-kun.”
It took a lot of willpower for Mina not to facepalm herself and then throw her phone across the room. For someone so observant, Midoriya was completely oblivious when it came to sexual tension and crushes.
Taking a deep breath, Mina says, “Are you asking me this because you like Todoroki?”
“I mean, at the beginning of the year, I thought I had a crush on Uraraka-san, but then after the sport’s festival, Todoroki-kun and I have grown a lot closer,” Midoriya looked more and more confused as he went on, “Then I started thinking about Todoroki-kun a lot. Like, I would be doing my homework and suddenly, I’m thinking about the conversation we had at lunch about the Buzzfeed Unsolved Penitentiary we saw the other day. I even caught myself thinking about how much my mom would love him if he ever visited her with me over the weekends! I- is this what a crush is supposed to feel like?”
Deep breaths Mina, deep breaths. “Yes, Midoriya, that is what a crush is supposed to feel like. If you’ve been feeling this way for over four months, it might even be love.”
“It can be love?” Midoriya shrieked, taking out a pencil and his notebook, scribbling something down before looking back up at her.
“Yes, it can be love,” Mina thanked the Gods that she watched all those psychological TikToks. “Don’t worry about it too much, it’s not like the Hanahaki disease exists anyway, or at least I don’t think so.”
“What’s the Hanahaki-”
“That’s not what’s important!” Mina interjected, “Not like you would die from the Hanahaki if it did exist anyway,” she added under her breath. “What’s important is that you should confess to Todoroki that you have a crush on him! And probably tell him about your sexuality as well. As of right now, he still thinks you’re straight.”
Midoriya’s eyes widened, “Really? I thought he knew that I was bisexual…”
“And he thought that you knew he was gay,” Mina finished, “You two need to come clean and confess your feelings!”
“But what if he doesn’t like me back?” Midoriya asks, fear seeping into his eyes.
Mina held back the urge to scream, “It’s okay Midoriya, I’m sure you’ll be surprised once you tell him the truth.”
“You really think so Mina-san?”
“I know so, Midoriya. Now go confess already!” Mina says, shoving him toward the elevator. “You know which floor to go to, right?”
“Yeah, I’ve been up there before,” Midoriya says, pressing a button and waving to her before the doors closed.
Huffing out a breath, Mina collapsed on the couch again. Now she could get back to her TikToks. A plate of cookies waited for her patiently as she started scrolling through her ‘for you’ page. She came across multiple hilarious TikToks and sent them to the Bakusquad chat for the rest to see. Working on her fourth cookie, she saw a panda mug float past her before the owner grabbed it.
“Hey Mina!” Uraraka says brightly.
“Hey Uraraka,” Mina says, not looking up from her phone.
“So um, I hope I‘m not bothering you,” Uraraka says nervously, “But I was wondering if you could help me with something?”
Mina felt a wave of deja vu, but it couldn’t be, could it? “What do you need help with?”
“Well,” Uraraka starts, “It has something to do with my love life. I wasn’t sure who else I could talk to besides you! You are the best at this. Anyway, when I first came to U.A. I thought I had a crush on Deku, you know?”
“Uh-huh,” Mina says carefully, this was definitely going where she thought it would.
“But then, after the sport’s festival, I realized that I just really admired him. I don’t think I had much of a crush on him afterward. I mean, sure, he’s cute, but I don’t really feel the same way anymore. Instead, you remember the summer camp we went to?”
Mina did not want to be reminded of that hellish time, “Yeah?”
“Well, during one of the exercises we did with class 1-B, the other class had to scare us as we went in pairs into the forest. Tsu and I held hands to help the fear and I suddenly felt butterflies in my stomach, not really from fear, but from something else,” Uraraka bit her lip.
Mina sighed, it was way too early for this, “You like Tsu, don’t you?”
Uraraka looked up at her, “I think so.”
Mina threw her head back, “Oh my god.” Next, Aizawa was probably going to come and ask her how he could convince Present Mic to get another cat.
“Just tell her, Uraraka,” Mina says, “You two have been mutually pining after each other for months!”
Uraraka’s eyes lit up, “Really? Do you think she feels the same way?”
“Of course she would!” Mina exclaims.
Uraraka gripped her mug tightly, “Thanks Mina! You were a great help!”
“No problem,” Mina says, waving to Uraraka as she headed towards the elevators.
Denki and Shinsou arrived back in the dorms a little after one thirty.
“How was the date?” Mina asked casually.
“It was great!” Denki gushed, “You have no idea how cute the cat cafe was! I couldn’t decide who was cuter, Shinsou or the cats!”
“It better be me!” Shinsou shouted from the kitchen, “Or else it was not worth it to sit through the hour long lecture Aizawa gave me about going out on a date with you!”
Denki snickered, “He’s just jealous I was paying more attention to the little calico cat than him.”
“I was not!”
“Sure.”
Mina watched the exchange before the two boys. If this was their way to telling each other they loved each other, Bakugou was going to be blowing up way more than just a chair or table a day.
Shinsou walked back over to Denki with a cup of fresh coffee. How many cups of coffee does this guy drink in a day? Mina asked herself. He was really giving Aizawa a run for his money when it came to caffeine consumption.
“I’m assuming you’ll still be leaving your window open?” Shinsou asked.
“You keep making these empty promises!” Denki huffed, “You’re not doing anything to actually prove them!”
“Hm, I was worried you wouldn’t be able to walk to the bus station today so I had to take a raincheck last night,” Shinsou replied.
“Oh my god! You two are nasty!” Mina found herself screeching while scooting to the other side of the couch with her precious cookies.
Denki seemed to ignore her, “Pft, I’m sure I could have made it fine.”
“You sure about that?”
“Yeah! Plus, if I couldn’t walk to the bus station, you could just carry me!”
Mina prayed silently to the TikTok Gods that she was not cursed from this horrid conversation taking place three feet from her.
“I don’t think you’d be able to sit on the bus seats though,” Shinsou adds.
“That’s fine too, I can just sit on your lap,” Denki says flirtatiously.
“That’s it!” Mina screams, “I’m out! First Midoriya asks me for help, then Uraraka is next. Then, when I’m trying to enjoy some cookies and TikToks, I have to be three feet away from you two! What have I done, TikTok Gods? What can I do to purify my soul and get some peace and quiet?”
She could hear Shinsou snort as she made her way to the elevator, “Fuck you Shinsou!”
“I don’t think Denki would appreciate that,” Shinsou shot back. Oh, the bitch war was on.
Extra Scenes (mainly just Shinkami flirting because we can never get enough of that):
“Did you see her face?” Denki giggled as the elevator doors closed behind Mina.
Shinsou chuckled, “Yes, I did. I’ve also basically proclaimed war and the rest of the week will just be us bitching back and forth.”
“Reminds me of the time I first saw you,” Denki says, “You came to class 1-A right before the sport’s festival, put up with Bakugou’s bitchiness, and proclaimed war on our class.
“Well, probably not my best moment,” Shinsou says.
“I thought it was hot,” Denki says shamelessly.
Shinsou quirked a brow, “Really now?”
Denki just realized what kind of flip he switched. Fuck.
“I mean-” Denki was cut off from Shinsou’s lips that captured his. Holy hell, how was Shinsou so good at this? His lips were so soft and warm, perfectly molding with his own.
Pulling away, Shinsou smirked, “Forget leaving your window open tonight. I have time right now.”
Denki blushed red hot as Shinsou carried him bridal style into the elevator and towards Shinsou’s dorm. If Aizawa were to catch them now, they would both die happy deaths.
