Work Text:

Bakugou walks into the room, takes one look at the “Bakugou Katsuki is in Love Intervention” poster and promptly walks right the fuck out.

Kirishima grabs onto his shoulder before he makes it far, pulling him into the room and swinging the door shut. “Bakugou, you can’t run away from the truth anymore!”

“What the hell is this?” Bakugou demands, glaring between Kirishima, Kaminari, and Mina, trying to decide who he’s going to blow up first.

Kaminari is pulling out a chair, and suddenly Kirishima’s arms are on him, pushing him down, and Mina is pointing intently at the whiteboard with her stupid whiteboard pen.

Great, he thinks. This is exactly how he wanted to spend his day off. Some fucking delusional idiots with a flowchart wanting to give him a goddamn lesson on his emotions.

“Is this an intervention or a fucking lecture?” Bakugou snaps, slumping back into the chair. Kirishima’s arms are still on his shoulders, like he half expects Bakugou to jump up and escape at any second.

He was thinking about it, but…

As much as he hates this with every fiber of his being, he’s kind of curious to know what fucking nonesense the three of them have come up with.

“It’s an intervention in the form of a lecture,” Mina announces with a grin, and Bakugou wonders if it’s too late to blow them all up.

Kaminari looks down at the packet in his hand, because of fucking course he has a goddamn fucking packet to tell Bakugou all about how in love he is. Jesus Christ. Bakugou hates his friends. He literally hates them.

Kaminari clears his throat. “Bakugou, what’s the first thing you think about when you see the color green?”

Bakugou stares at him like he’s grown a second head. “What the hell kind of question is that?”

“Come ooooon,” Mina sighs. “Don’t think about it, just answer.”

Bakugou lets out a groan, but whatever. The faster he answers these stupid questions the faster they’ll let him leave, right?

What’s the first thing he thinks of when he sees the color green?

“Deku,” he says suddenly, and then his friends are smiling and it feels like the walls around them are closing in and nope, absolutely fucking not.

He moves to get up but Kirishima pushes him back down, clearly having expected that kind of reaction. This isn’t a “Bakugou Katsuki is in Love” intervention. This is a “Bakugou Katsuki is in love with Midoirya Izuku'' intervention.

“We’re doing this for your own good!” Kirishima tells him, and even though Bakugou could easily get the fuck out of this room if he wanted to, he figures they won’t leave him the hell alone until he listens to whatever stupid shit they’ve made up in their heads, so he slumps down into his seat and prepares to be annoyed for the next...however long this “intervention” lasts.

“I fucking hate all of you,” Bakugou says, and his so called friends take that as their cue to go on.

Kaminari’s eyes return to the goddamn packet as he asks, “Do you find yourself staring at Midoriya often?”

Bakugou’s face scrunches together, and he’s about to say hell fucking no when he realizes that maybe that’s not entirely correct. “So what if I stare at him?!” Bakugou says instead. “His stupid face is annoying!”

Kaminari and Mina share a look.

“What?” Bakugou snaps.

“We didn’t say anything!” Kaminari says, throwing his stupid little packet in front of his face as if it can shield him from Bakugou’s glare of rage.

“I can hear you thinking!” Bakugou says, and then Kirishima gives him a small pat on the head and asks,

“Do you think Midoirya is cute?”

Bakugou is so thrown off guard by the question that he forgets to swat Kirishima’s hand from his head, so it just stays there, and he just lets it, because—

What the fuck?

“He’s Deku,” Bakugou says, like that’s an answer to their question.

“Do you think he’s cute?” Kirishima repeats the question back to him, and Katsuki scowls.

“I mean? I guess? Why does it even matter?” Bakugou huffs, and then proceeds to dig himself into a bigger hole. “Fucking everybody thinks Deku is cute. Shitty nerd.”

His friends are grinning now, and Bakugou decides that he no longer has friends. Just enemies. So, correction—Bakugou’s enemies are grinning now, and Bakugou wants to fucking kill them.

“I think he’s reaching his limit,” Kaminari notes, and Mina mods in agreement, handing him a piece of paper and a pen.

“Just fill this out. We won’t ask you any more questions.”

Bakugou narrows his eyes at her, but he takes the paper, the glare promptly returning to his face.

“A love checklist? Are you fucking kidding me?”

Mina’s smile is downright devious. “Nope!”

Mina and Kaminari are making their way to the door now, and that’s when Bakugou realizes that Kirishima’s no longer in the room and what the hell, now Kaminari and Mina are halfway out the door and—

“That paper you’re holding is laced with a truth quirk, by the way! So you can’t lie!”

And then the door is clicking shut, and a lock is very obviously being turned, and Bakugou’s glaring down at a love checklist that he’s supposedly being forced to fill out.

The paper reads:

Check all that apply to you.

Does Midoirya make you happy? Check.

Does the idea of losing Midoriya scare you? Check.

Do you find Midoriya attractive? Check.

Do you love Midoirya Izuku? Check.

Fuck. Stupid fucking Deku and his stupid fucking smile. Bakugou wasn’t trying to fall in love. He was just trying to become the number one hero, and of course Deku had to go and distract him with goddamn feelings.

Bakugou groans, leaning back in his seat and kicking his feet up on the table. He briefly considers making a run for it but ultimately decides it’s not worth it.

Whatever. He can be in love with Deku and become the number one hero. He can do anything he sets his goddamn mind to, because that’s just who he is.

Midoirya walks into the room with a smile, takes one look at the “Midoirya Izuku is in Love Intervention” poster and promptly drops is jaw to the floor.

He swallows, takes a moment to collect himself, and then asks, “W-what exactly is this?”

Uraraka sighs, plopping into one of the chairs in front of him. Iida and Todoroki follow her lead, until he’s the only one left standing.

“Deku,” Uraraka says, “we’re your friends, and we love you,” she shares a look with the other two, “which is why we’re here to tell you that you’re in love with Bakugou.”

Midoirya’s eyes fly out of his head, and he tries to laugh, but it turns into a weird cough and he doesn’t need a mirror to know he’s red all over. “Ha—um—what makes you say that?”

“You never stop staring at him,” Iida says.

“You always get a dopey look on your face after you talk to him,” Todoroki adds.

“It’s obvious,” Uraraka says.

“Oh god,” Midoirya breaths, glancing between his friends in a panic. “Does Kacchan know? He’s going to kill me!”

Todoroki snorts. “I think Bakugou is the only person who doesn’t know.”

Uraraka and Iida are nodding in agreement, and Midoirya lets out of a breath of relief, until Uraraka is telling him—

“I doubt he’d kill you, since he’s in love with you, too.”

“What?!” Midoirya squeaks, falling into one of the chairs behind him. “What are you even talking about? Kacchan and I—we worked through a lot of stuff… we’re friends. He doesn’t—I know we’ve been hanging out a lot lately, but—“

“Midoriya,” Todoroki interrupts with a soft smile. “He looks at you the same way you look at him.”

Midoirya’s lip parts, wide eyes looking between his friends. “...Really?”

Uraraka nods. “Really, Deku.”

“Oh my god,” Midoriya breaths, head falling into his hands, legs pulling up against his chest, just barely fitting onto the chair.

“Is that a good or bad oh my god…?” Iida asks, eyeing him skeptically.

“Good? I think? I don’t know—what am I supposed to do now? Just because he looks at me a certain way doesn’t mean he wants to date me and—“ Midoirya shifts into mumbling without realizing it, his mind reeling with the fact that Bakugou might actually like him.

“Midoriya,” Todoroki says, snapping his attention back to his three friends.

“Hu—oh—sorry,” Midoirya lets out a quiet exhale. “I guess...Kacchan has been a lot nicer lately. He even pays for food when we go out sometimes.” Midoriya pauses. “Actually, he always pays. Every time I tell him I’ve got it he just bumps his shoulder against mine and tells me to shut up.”

Uraraka grins, her eyes sparkling. “That’s...kind of really cute.”

“Should I just...ask him out then?” Midoriya says, looking between his friends. He’s never done this whole...dating thing before, and he definitely didn’t think he’d ever be doing it with Bakugou.

“Well, actually…” Uraraka says, and her grin is even wider now. “Kirishima, Kaminari, and Mina are in the room across from us having the same conversation with Bakugou.”

“Wha—oh my god,” Midoriya says again. “What are they even saying to him? What if you guys are wrong and he doesn’t actually like me and now he’s going to be annoyed at me for this whole thing and what if—“

“Deku,” Uraraka says softly, breaking him from his endless stream of what ifs. “We wouldn’t have done anything if we weren’t sure. Also!” She holds up a small piece of paper. “We brought this!”

Midoriya takes the paper from her and looks it over, his already warm face growing hotter. “Did...did Bakugou fill this out, too?”

Todoroki nods. “Yeah.”

There’s a knock at the door then, and Midoriya looks behind him to see Kirishima waving at them.

“I’ll be right back,” Todoroki says. “Just fill that out.”

Todoroki slips out of the room, and then it’s just Midoriya, Iida, Uraraka, and the weight of this ridiclous checklist that Bakugou is apparently filling out in the room across from them.

“The checklist is laced with a truth quirk,” Iida tells him, and Midoriya blinks up at him before his eyes return to the paper.

“Do you have a pen?” He asks, gaze unmoving from the words in front of him. He can’t imagine Bakugou willingly filling something like this out…

“Oh! Yes!” Iida shuffles around in his bag for a second and then holds out a pen, which Midoirya takes without looking up.

Does Bakugou make you happy? Check.

Does the idea of losing Bakugou scare you? Check.

Do you find Bakugou attractive? Check.

Do you love Bakugou Katsuki? Check.

“Do you...do you guys really think he loves me? That’s like—a lot, you know? Being friends is still kind of new...I don’t want to ruin it by asking for too much…”

Uraraka scoots her seat forward, so that she’s knee to knee with Midoriya. “Deku, I think Bakugou’s loved you for a long time.”

Midoriya’s eyes are wide, staring back at his friend, and then he lets out a loud breath, a small smile pulling at his lip. “Thank you for going through all this trouble for me, guys.”

Iida nods. “That’s what friends are for!”

Uraraka grabs his hand and gives it a gentle squeeze. “I see how happy you are when you’re with him, and when you’re talking about him. You guys have come a long way. We all just want to see you happy.”

“So what happens now?” Midoriya asks, and then Uraraka is back to grinning as she grabs his hand and pulls him from the room.

Kirishima, Kaminari, Mina, and Todoroki are all standing out in the hallway, and as soon as the door opens Kirishima is waving.

“Hey Midoriya! Good luck!”

“Um—thanks,” Midoriya says, and then a new door is being opened and he’s being gently pushed inside.

Five minutes pass before the door opens back up, and Bakugou’s ready to yell at his friends for being the fucking worst, but he looks up to find Deku being pushed into the room, the door closing behind him.

“Hey,” Deku says awkwardly, and Bakugou rolls his eyes.

“Hey.”

Deku holds up a piece of paper and asks, “Did they make you fill this out, too?”

Bakugou stares at the checklist, his stupid heart stuttering as he eyes Deku’s responses. Damn nerd shouldn’t be able to make his heart fall to his goddamn stomach, but here he is.

“So you love me, huh?” Bakugou says, and Midoriya just nods. He kind of looks like he’s about to pass out at any second, so Bakugou decides to go easy on him. He holds up his own checklist and says, “Guess it’s mutual then.”

Deku’s eyes widen as he stares at Bakugou’s list, and then suddenly he’s straightening up and sputtering, “Letmebuyyoudinner.”

Bakugou looks at him, eyebrow raised, but he can’t help the way his lip pulls up. “You asking me on a date, nerd?”

Deku nods quickly, that determined look on his face. “Yeah, I am.”

“Okay,” Bakugou says easily. “Tonight.”

Deku’s eyes widen slightly. “I mean, it’s already kind of late, we’d have to go right now.”

Bakugou grins. “Even more of a reason to go.”

Deku opens his mouth to say something, closes it, lets out a quiet breath, and then says, “Yeah, okay. Let’s go.”

Bakugou grabs Deku’s hand without warning, opening the door and pulling him into the hallway, their friends going silent and staring at them the second the door opens.

Bakugou glares at Kirishima, Kaminari, and Mina. “I fucking hate you guys.” A pause. “But I’m going on a date with this nerd, so thanks, or whatever.”

“Have fun, Deku!” Uraraka says, and she’s smiling, and so is Deku, and maybe, just maybe, Bakugou doesn't hate his friends. Maybe he loves them. And maybe he loves Deku.

“Just so you know,” Bakugou says once they’re out of earshot from their friends. “I’m gonna be the best fucking boyfriend ever.”

Deku stops, and it’s then that Bakugou realizes what he just said. Shit. “I mean—fuck, if you want me to be. You boyfriend.”

Deku smiles like he’s made of pure sunshine. “I want you to be my boyfriend, Kacchan.”

Bakugou looks away, because sometimes looking at Deku is just too goddamn much. “Okay, good.”

Deku’s hand finds Bakugou’s cheek, and he’s pretty sure his heart leaps out of his chest. “Kacchan.”

Bakugou turns his head, leaning into Deku’s touch.

“Can I kiss you?” Deku asks, and fuck, Bakugou’s screwed. He’s totally screwed. Those goddamn green eyes are staring into his soul and Bakugou feels the sudden need to shoot a few explosions from his hands to deal with the way his heart is racing but instead he grabs Deku’s waist and pulls him forward, pressing their lips together.

Deku’s lips part against his, and Bakugou thinks no explosion his quirk could set off would be bigger than the one in his heart.

Fucking Deku.
