Christmas Miracles

After searching and searching for a gift for Hoseok without any luck and with little to no money to actually find a worthy gift, Yoongi feels defeated. It's Christmas eve and nothing is open. That's when it happens, Yoongi stumbles upon something in the most unlikely of places, that he knows his boyfriend will love.

Notes:

This fic is for #Sopemas2020 Day 2

I chose to do Days 1 - 6 of Sopemas and all 6 fics go hand-in-hand with each other but can also be read as stand alones. They explore Yoongi and Hoseok's relationship through their years together meaning that each fic will have the same Sope couple as the others but at different points in their lives.

As I post each day, I will put their Chronological order number for those who wish to read them in order.

Lastly, this fic has not been beta'd so I apologize for any typos or grammatical errors you may see.

Thank you for reading. Comments and feedback are aways welcomed and encouraged. I really hope you enjoy my work!

Chronologically #5

Work Text:

"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Hoseok asked as he tied a scarf around his neck and slipped on his thick warm fluffy winter coat.

"I'm gonna be there for christmas and you guys are just gonna be making cookies all day" Yoongi chuckled "I'm sure mom won't hold it against me. Besides, I've got a few things here to take care of. I'll pass this time."

Hoseok walked up to his boyfriend and smiled as he leaned in and placed a kiss to his nose. "Just don't think about things too much, okay? Everything will be fine, I promise." Hoseok said, then pressed a soft kiss to Yoongi's lips. "I love you so much. Now, be a good boy while I'm gone." He teased then scurried off out the door.

Yoongi rushed to the door after him and called out. "I won't. I'm gonna burn the whole damn house down, you just watch!!" He laughed when Hoseok gave him that scolding pout then Yoongi blew him a kiss and smirked. "I love you too, baby! Be safe and tell mom I said "hi" and that I'll see her on Christmas."

Hoseok glanced over from the car, watching Yoongi disappear back into the house before he pulled off towards his mothers. He hadn't visited her in a few months, life had become rather busy for him. Over the summer he'd finally opened up his own dance company, Sunshine Dance Studio, inspired by the name Yoongi had given him so many moons ago. People of all ages were welcome but he primarily worked with children and teens. Hoseok loved it.

The bright enthusiastic faces that met him each day were reward enough for all that he had accomplished to reach this point in his life. The studio was coming up on it's sixth month mark and business had been amazing. He couldn't wait to tell her all about it. As soon as he arrived at the house, he parked then got out and went inside.

Yoongi wished he could say that things had been going well for him but truth be told, they weren't. He'd lost his job because new management didn't see him worthy of being kept. It was a massive blow to him. He'd had that same job for over 4 years and he loved it. But that all happened 3 weeks ago. Right before Christmas too, go figure.

He and Hoseok had just moved into their own house together before the summer, before Hoseok's studio took off the following month and Yoongi had used all his savings as a down payment. They were actually buying a home and over the months that followed, Yoongi took care of the monthly payments while Hoseok took care of the bills then they would split everything else. For two guys in their mid 20's, they were doing damn compared to a lot of others their age.

Hell, most of the people they knew from high school were either dead, strung out on or dealing drugs, had like 7 kids, were in jail or some fucked up combination of the mix. But not them.

Yoongi's success was one of the main reasons this had hit him so hard. Financially, they were fine, his pride however, was not. Hoseok was making enough money to support them and take care of everything just fine until Yoongi found work again. But it was Christmas and Yoongi still hadn't gotten his boyfriend anything. He had his eye on a few things but there was no way in hell he was going to make Hoseok buy his own gift.

Yoongi knew Hoseok wouldn't care if he got a gift or not, Christmas wasn't about that for him. He would simply brighten the room with that Sunshine smile of his and tell Yoongi he didn't need gifts as long as they had each other, he would be happy. But that's what made Yoongi want to get something for him all the more. Hoseok deserved the fucking world and Yoongi would give it to him if he could.

After Hoseok left, Yoongi didn't waste any time. Today was christmas eve and he had to find something. Hoseok would be at his mothers all day so that gave Yoongi plenty of freedom and time to venture into town with the measly 36 bucks and random change he had in his pocket.

Once Yoongi made it into town he searched and searched through various stores and shops that he'd bookmarked. He had a list of possible things to get for Hoseok but every store he went to was either sold out of what he wanted or had already closed. This was truly a disaster. This was gonna be the worst Christmas ever, he just knew it.

After what seemed like hours of looking around, he was starting to feel defeated. The only thing keeping him from being depressed were the messages Hoseok kept sending him. Little updates on all the cute cookies he made and pictures of the designs he put on them. He even made one and spelled out "I love you" on it and sent it with a big heart emoji. Yoongi couldn't help smiling despite feeling down on his luck. Hoseok was the absolute best. He deserved a fucking present, the best present and Yoongi was determined to find one.

Time however was not on his side. It was getting pretty late. If stores hadn't been closed before, they were doing it now and Yoongi felt hope starting to fully crumble. He sighed defeatedly and leaned against the side of one of the department stores just as the lights inside were flicked off. "Yeah, me too" he mumbled to himself then slid down to sit on the pavement of the sidewalk. He didn't have much time left before Hoseok would be coming home but that didn't even matter now. He wasn't going to find something worthy for his sunshine, he was sure of it.

As he scrolled through the next batch of pics from Hoseok, the sudden sound of screeching tires made him look up. Some idiot was speeding around the corner heading in his direction. "People are so damn stupid," he grumped as the car turned into an alley way. He heard the tires skid to a stop then a loud thud followed and what sounded like one of those metal trash cans being turned over a few seconds later as the car sped off again. "Really? It's Christmas eve and you're out here driving like a dumbass."

Of course they didn't hear him but it needed to be said. "Bet they're drunk too." He mumbled as he rolled his eyes and looked back down to his phone. His attention didn't stay on the screen very long. Another sound caught in his ears, it was high pitched and whiny and was coming from the alleyway the car had driven into. He thought maybe it was just some cat or maybe a rat or something but the whines turned to whimpers and got louder. He knew what that was. "Are you fuckin' kidding me?"

Yoongi tucked his phone away into his coat pocket then pushed himself up to stand before going to investigate. Once he got to the alley he saw a tipped over trash can that was half wobbling half rolling but not really going anywhere. The whines grew louder as he got closer and as he reached the metal can, he leaned over to peer inside. His hunch was right. Anger flared up at him as he cast a death gaze in the direction the car had gone then he looked back inside and crouched down.

The sounds stopped and in the very back was a small lump of shivering fur that had two big frightened eyes staring right at Yoongi. "You're just a pup…a little baby..." he said quietly to himself and frowned. Carefully he reached in to let the pup sniff his hand. "Hey, there.. it's ok. I'm not gonna hurt you" he whispered, hoping to coax the puppy from out of the can.

The poor thing was scared and cold and didn't move so Yoongi risked the consequences of possibly being snapped at or bitten. He reached in to pet the puppy's head, it didn't react hostile at all so that was a good sign. What wasn't a good sign was the small animal almost had the can rattling from how much it was shaking. Yoongi couldn't just leave it here like that. It would surely die out in the frosty weather.

If he had known that this is what the car was doing, dropping off some poor innocent animal and abandoning it out in8 the cold like this, he would have stopped the car and beat the everloving fuck out of everyone in it. He really couldn't understand how someone could be so cruel.

It took a couple of minutes but Yoongi was finally able to get the poor thing out. He did the only thing he could think of to try and help warm the helpless little thing get warm. He unzipped his coat and gently placed the puppy inside of it before zipping it back up. If anything hopefully his body heat would help a little or at least give the pup some comfort. "It'll be ok little guy, at least I think you're a guy." He said, looking as if he was now talking to himself like a crazy person.

The puppy whined a little but otherwise didn't do much in his coat but shiver. It was so cute too, even Yoongi thought so. It had big bold eyes with mostly white fur and had a few areas of brown added into its coat pattern. Yoongi tried to think of where he could take the pup but with the shelters closed like everything else, he didn't have any other ideas.

Half an hour had passed and here Yoongi was walking around downtown on christmas eve with a pup in his coat and one arm that he had pulled inside to cradle it, just trying to warm it up while thinking of anywhere he could take it.

Like a ton of bricks, it hit Yoongi. He unzipped the top of his coat enough to look down at the creature who had finally stopped shivering so much. It seemed his coat was helping afterall. He didn't know if the puppy basically falling into his lap was a sign or what but he knew what he was going to do. "You're gonna come home with me, little guy. How does that sound?" To Yoongi's surprise the small pup licked his hand almost as if in response.

"Fuck" Yoongi thought. He couldn't just bring some random puppy home. They didn't have anything they needed to take care of an animal. He needed to at least get food or something for it. Maybe even a little warm bed to sleep and a caller. Yoongi cursed under his breath. Surely there was some place open….then it dawned on him. "I bet they're open. Hell, they never close. Thankfully it's close, then I can go home. Don't worry, we're gonna go get you some stuff."

There he was, talking to himself again, or so it appeared to anyone who saw him. He really didn't care though. This pup had just saved Christmas for him and he just knew Hoseok would love it. "You're a little miracle, you know that pup?" Yoongi continued to converse with the animal all the way until he got to the massive chain store with lettering all in big blue letters. Yoongi let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness they were open. This little miracle pup seemed to be turning his whole day around.

He zipped his coat back up then he went into the store Yoongi rushed over to the pet section, trying to hurry.  Yes they were open but only for the next 15 minutes which was plenty of time for him to go and grab what he needed. He picked up a small bag of puppy food then looked at the little doggy clothing section and picked out something that would be adorable by his boyfriend's standards, a tiny little pale light blue hoodie with a fuzzy white rim around the hooded part. After that he picked out a tiny collar that matched.

Yoongi didn't normally do little cute things like this but his boyfriend had changed him a lot or at least brought out sides of him that no one else could have. As he went through the self checkout and paid for everything, he was surprised to still have a little bit of money left, in fact it was just enough to pay for him a ride home. So that's what he did. He needed to get back before Hoseok got home.

As he was in the car, his phone went off in his pocket, he knew that ringtone. "Fuck" he muttered, assuming Hoseok was already home and calling to see where Yoongi was. He swiped to answer. "Hey Sunshine."

"Yoonie! Hey! Did you fall asleep?" Hoseok questioned on the other line "I've been messaging you for over an hour and you never responded."

Damn. Yoongi had been so distracted with the puppy, getting to the store, hurrying to buy everything and get home that he hadn't even checked his phone. "I'm sorry babe. I had to run to the store real quick to get something for tomorrow and forgot my phone." Technically he wasn't lying. He did go to the store, and he did forget about his phone...sorta.

Hiseok sighed and laughed "What am I going to do with you, Min Yoongi?"

"Love me forever, I hope" Yoongi shot back and Hoseok could feel his smirk through the phone.

"Ok Mr. Obvious." Hoseok laughed more. "Well, since you haven't seen my messages, I was trying to let you know that I was going to be staying the night at my mom's. She wants to bake all night and make extra goodies for the kids in the neighbourhood and I told her I didn't mind helping. I hope that's ok...you aren't mad are you?"

Yoongi just smiled "That's such a "you" thing to do. Of course I'm not mad. Why are you so damn cute?"

Hoseok's face flushed and this time it was Yoongi who could feel it through the phone. They really were on a whole nother level than most couples and it was a beautiful thing. "You're just biased, that's all." Hoseok shot back

"You're damn right I am, deal with it~" Yoongi chuckled "Ok so, if you're staying the night, how is tomorrow going to work?"

"I'm going to come get you when I wake up tomorrow and we'll come back over here. I already thought about that. I'll call you and let you know I'm on my way."

Yoongi nodded out of habit, "Alright then I'll see you in the morning. I'm gonna miss you tonight."

"I know, I'm sorry but I'll make it up to you with extra cuddles and a little surprise too~"

Yoongi caught that suggestive little tone Hoseok used "Heh, now you're just tryin' to be naughty by teasin' me. I see how it is. I'll be looking forward to that surprise."

Hoseok laughed "I can tell it's working. I'll leave you to wonder what kind of surprise it is though. Mom needs help, I think Jiwoo burned the sugar cookies. I love you Yoonie, to the moon and back."

"And I love you sunshine, forever and always. Now get going before there isn't a house to have christmas dinner at." He said, chuckling then they both hung up.  It was true that he was going to miss his boyfriend tonight but this could not be more perfect. He had been wondering what he was going to do with the puppy because he wanted to give it to Hoseok Christmas morning. He wanted to have it set up like one of those Hallmark Christmas movies where there's a cute little puppy inside of a present Box just waiting under the tree.

Hoseok was a sucker for that kinda stuff, especially at christmas. With him not coming home, that gave Yoongi more time to plan this out.

Finally he was back at home. He set the bags down on the living room floor then sat next to them and unzipped his coat all the way to find a sleeping pup cradled in his arm. It was one of the most precious things he had ever seen. Now that the puppy was in a better light and he could see it more clearly, it really didn't look that old at all. Probably a couple of months old. He still couldn't believe somebody would just leave it out there like that but in a way he was glad that things had worked out this way.

This was his little miracle that saved what was looking like a depressing Christmas, for him at least. Everything had been falling into place since he found the pup. It really was perfect.

*****

The next morning Yoongi forced himself to get up. He hated it but he reminded himself that he needed to be up before Hoseok got there. He sat up and rubbed his eyes before looking over to the shoe box he had set up as a makeshift bed for the puppy. He was curled up fast asleep, nestled into the sift towels Yoongi put in there so he could be comfy.

Yoongi had to stop himself from replying to Hoseok's good morning messages.  Hey figure that if he didn't answer any of the messages it would give his boyfriend a reason to actually come into the house when he came to pick him up. It would be less suspicious that way. He might think something was up if Yoongi told him to come in but if he came in of his own free will to check on Yoongi since he didn't answer messages then that was different and that's when Yoongi would strike with his present.

Yoongi knew Hoseok too well and sure enough, as soon as he pulled into the driveway, he got out and went up to the door. By then Yoongi had taken the puppy down stairs while still in the box. He slipped on the little hoodie then placed a lid over the top of the box after setting it under the tree  literally seconds before he heard the jingle of Hoseok's keys opening the door.

"Yoonie?" Hoseok called out as he walked into the foyer and shut the door behind him.

"I'm in the living room, Sunshine~" Responded Yoongi who simply waited for his boyfriend to come in.

Instantly, Hoseok entered, then went straight for Yoongi, damn near knocking him over from the force of the hug he had engaged in. "I thought you were still sleeping, I was coming to wake you up!" He smiled big, his face radiating rays of sunshine. Hoseok covered Yoongi's face in kisses. "Merry christmas, baby!" He said excitedly.

Yoongi smirked and pulled one of his arms from behind his back and extended it up. In his hand was mistletoe. "Merry christmas, Sunshine, you've fallen into my trap."

Hoseok giggled then stole Yoongi's lips without hesitation. He'd only been away for a day but he missed him like crazy and the kiss was returned with just as much longingness as Hoseok was putting into it.

Yoongi had to stop himself though. A few more seconds of that and neither of them would have any clothes on and a lot more would be going on other than some passionate deep kisses.

Hoseok looked at him, surprised. Like he'd been expecting...wanting it to go further and if Yoongi were not on a mission right now, he would have let it. Yoongi took Hoseok's hand then led him over to the tree. He needed to do this before the present gave itself away. "Baby, Before we go. I want to give you my gift." Yoongi gestured down to the box. "Right there, open it slowly, okay?"

Hoseok paled, yes it was Christmas but something seemed suspicious with how Yoongi was acting. "Yoonie I swear if something jumps out at me I'm cutting you off for a month." Hoseok had every right to be scared. It wouldn't be the first time Yoongi had tricked him but….it was christmas so he was putting faith in the holiday spirit.

Hoseok crouched down to the box and examined.  It seemed ordinary enough but it wasn't wrapped or anything. It was literally just a plain old Box. He reached to take the lid off it moved, he screamed and back he went. Fell right onto his rear. "Yoonie, what did I say!!"

Yoongi couldn't help laughing, teeth and gums showing themselves. It was an unexpected surprise but a hilarious one. "Babe, I promise. Nothing is going to jump out at you. Just open it, slowly."

Hoseok narrowed his eyes and glared but reached for the lid again. This time it didn't move until he lifted it up and took it off. The change in his expression was instant and he gasped as his hands moved to cover his mouth. Big black button eyes looked up at him from under the mini hoodie. "Yoonie, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!!"

Hoseok carefully picked up the pup. Hevwas so tiny that he could fit into one of his hands. "Yoonie...I...You...I don't know what to say...I love him...him?"

Yoongi nodded, confirming.

"He's so tiny and small. He's the cutest…" Hoseok was all soft toned and gushing all over the place. The moment Yoongi saw and heard his reaction, he knew that this little guy truly was their Christmas miracle. It didn't matter that this would add to their monthly spending. Right now, him not having a job didn't even matter. Hoseok's happiness was all he cared about at that moment and watching how he was with that little puppy, that was priceless. No money in the world could buy that.

Hoseok nuzzled the pup to his cheek. "I don't know what or where or even how you got him but he feels like the most special thing ever. Like the magic of christmas is all around him. He went silent for a moment then looked at Yoongi. "I'm going to name him Mickey. After one of the most magical places in the world."

"I think that suits him and he seems to like it too." Said Yoongi, watching Mickey cover Hoseok's face in puppy kisses. "It's perfect, just like you."
