Chapter 1: 《ゴースト》

Chapter Text

------------------------------------

《~ All men are not equal. ~》

When the city is engulfed by the dark of night, the empty streets become a mere shallow ghost of the booming commotion it used to be in the daylight, everything is quiet and calm. A truly mesmerizing sight.

Everything seemed to blend seamlessly. People were inside the comfort of their safe warm houses. Those unexpecting citizens that are oblivious to the struggle of the less fortunate ones.

they will never understand.

The few -well more than a few- unlucky ones that could not rely on the justice and safety of the city's protectors. Those whom screams and pleads of help goes unnoticed by most of the unsuspecting. The broken and silenced.

A shadowy figure perched from the rooftop of one of the building swiftly, jumping from building to building with no hesitation, searching for any signs of trouble. Something others usually avoided to do, but then again, he wasn't exactly like others.

He swore to protect the weak, the broken and the forgotten after all.

He was doing his usual patrols in the more 'unsafe' part of town. After all, that's where most villains thrived after all. From petty crimes, gangs, drug rings and human trafficking, all the evil doers seemed to just love this place. The crime rate dropped dramatically after he started patrolling that area though. But that just meant that they were located in a different place, that is why he has been over working himself these months to make sure every wrong doer knew that he was here. And he was not backing down any time soon.

But today was different, the night was quiet, too quiet. That would have been a good thing in his book, that meant he was doing his job right, but his gut feeling was telling him that something was going to go terribly.

As if on cue he heard a high pitch scream coming from a storage house. He skipped there quickly showcasing his flexibility as he did a stunt just to land stealthy on top of the rooftop. Attack worked better on the unsuspecting.

The screams grew louder in what can only be described as agony, he was calming himself down. Years of experience taught him not to just jump ahead at danger the first chance he got, the frightening number of scares in his well toned body were a testimony to that. Asses, analyze and then act.

He reminded himself of that rule a lot. His master would be proud of him.

He looked through the vent and of the storage to see a woman tied on a chair, she looked badly injured, bruises and cuts littered her petite body. Her Patel violet dress was teared and dirty, her blond hair looked greasy and had no healthy shine. Her blue eyes puffy. She looked like hell.

Then his eyes shifted to the rest of the room, there were about 10 men that seemed to just stand there in a fighting stance... a trap. He smirked at this glorious, mastermind of a plan that those villains came up with. Truly original!

Now now, he wasn't new to this kind of strategy. Being in this line of business. Heroes, Police and criminals all wanted him put away due to the dangers he brought to all the teams.

Being in the grey area wasn't something people welcomed after all, which in all honesty was something he found rather stupid. The world was not black and white, that was just naive idealism. They are a lot of examples for that in this world, from corrupt heroes to unjust punishment on a supposed 'villain'. But of course people would blind themselves to keep such ignorent ideologies.

They all just wanted someone to take the blame, And what is better than stigmatized category that are unrealistic to point fingers at. That is utter bullshit.

He grabbed his smoke bombs from his handy-dandy utility belt, before crawling into one of the vents that were on the rooftop, he followed the pain voice of the victim towards here exact location. With a maniacal smile in his face, he was ready to take down these foolish people who underestimated him.

Once he reached the center of the storage house he took out the bombs ring and dropped it, his beautiful creations, he was proud of his work.

"Did you hear that?" One of the man who are here to ambush him said.

...2

"It might be a rat, this storage unite is nasty and old." One of the man responded.

"Hey what's that?"

....1

The shadowy figure smiled through his mask, 'this would be fun!' He thought.

Suddenly, gas spread across the room and sadistic cackle was heard throughout the area, it sent shivers through out the criminals's back. 'Oh this would definitely be fun'.

The shadowy figure dropped from seemingly out of no where. He started his kicking down the villains immediately, being able to sense their movement. He swiftly moved from one to the others, if his fight was visible you would have described it as If he was dancing elegantly. He was moving fast, using their momentum against them. He was mercilessly ramming them. He was quick and deadly, a dangerous combination.

By the time he was done, the smoke has cleared, the villains were tied, beaten to a pulp and the hostage was very shocked.

"Sorry you were caught up in this mess my dear lady." The figure slowly approached the hostage to check on her injuries. He grabbed his small first aid kit to treat her wounds so they don't get infected. He grabbed his rubbing alcohol bottle and poured it all over the girl's cuts.

The girl tied to the chair hissed as she tried to identify her savior, but his outfit covered every inch of him, his voice notably deep and smooth.

The hero of the day grabbed the chin of the hostage to check for anything that signals a concussion. God knows that those are pain to treat.

"Oh my my~ how could they injure such a beautiful blossoming flower, makes me want to beat them up all over again" the girl's savior tried to lighten the mood and succeeded when he heard a giggle. No concussion, he concluded mentally.

The girl blushed at the unexpected flirtatious comment.

"Hey, I wouldn't be complaining if they got another one" she answered.

"Oh don't worry, I will turn them in. And if justice isn't served to them, I will personally make sure they get it." He responded while freeing the girl from the ropes that were digging info her skin uncomfortably. 'That would definitely leave a mark' she thought to her self.

Once she was free, she tried to get up only to fall. She closed her eyes expecting her face to welcome the hard concrete floor and kiss it. But that never happened, she looked up to see her hero holding her firmly.

"May I carry you?" The shadow guy asked softly as he held her gently, not trusting her voice fully at the moment she nodded. He then gave her a piggy back ride.

He held her swiftly as if she weighed nothing and began his journey to the local hospital near this area as he started making conversation with her just in case she had a concussion, and aren't those an amazing thing to deal with!

"Today must have being horrifying" he started.

"It is not the best day... but surprisingly not the worst day I had experienced" she added trying to gain back her confidence, but he knew better. The slight trembling in her voice, and the way she was shaking in his hold, it told him that she was trying to wrap her head on what the hell just happened, she was trying to cope with it.

He couldn't blame her. That was an utterly shitty situation that no human should experience, but here he is dealing with this kind of thing every other day.

"Now I am curious of what was the worse that happened, mind telling me?" He said while holding her tightly to offer as much comfort as he could.

"Well... the day I manifested my quirk, I was dubbed as a huge mistake..." she said voice filled with sorrow and grief.

"How so?" The shadow guy asked softly "you don't have to tell me if you are uncomfortable."

"No no, it's fine...My quirk lets me transform into this badass creature, and I love it! sure it is a bit odd looking and some people... find it... off putting...but i like it. it's just that I regretted how when I was young I just took the treatment that other people gave me because I am a so called 'monster'" she paused a small "hm" was heard from the 'hero' to show that he was listening to her.

"And people just hated me... it sucks honestly... but I am fine because they don't get to decide my value! I do!" She smiled brightly, the figure also smiled back at her... or what she could tell from the covered face with a mask.

"You are truly brave, I still have hope for humanity after all. Never stop chasing after what your dreams and treasure your morals and beliefs. Even if you do not become a hero, you will be someone's hero. I just know you will. You are no monster, you're the knight in shinning armor that will save the day" the shadow grinned.

And just like that, the girl broke down. She sobbed very loudly. The words she always wanted to hear was said. Yes she had an awful day. But someone believes in her, she is finally seen as something other than a disgusting creature. She cried at all those years of torment and suffering. All the people who didn't belive in her, all the walls of false confidence she had built to shelter her fragile exterior melted. And after a long session of crying, she for the first time ever,

Felt free.

They reached the hospital and he deposits her at the entrance.

With her puffy red eyes fresh from crying, she looked at her hero's eyes, as he is about to leave. She grabs him.

"W-who are you?" She said voice raw from her tearful brake down.

He looked her in the eye and said cheekly "me?" He paused pretending to think "just your friendly ghost!."

The girl heared police sirens playing near her she looked away for a second, looked back and he was gone. And for the first time in forever, she smiled a true smile. Later that night she prayed with all her heart in her, hospital bed, after an interrogation about the incident, that her savior will live a long happy life.

--------------------------

Ghost was sitting on the ledge of a 10 story building watching the sunrise as the lights start to mix with the dark leaving an enchanting palette of Blues and pink.

It was a beautiful sight that he experienced frequently due to the irregular hours of his so called job. He was a full fledged night owl that thrived on caffeine.

His mind wondering on this nights earlier events. Back to a certain petite blond girl that was shorter than him. She was interesting to say the least.

She reminded him of himself in a way.

The day he met his master and she took him as an apprentice, the moment he here the words he longed for. How he cried for hours that day, making her question if he was quirkless or not.

"With the way you are crying, I wouldn't be surprised if that is your quirk!" He recalled her words smiling fondly. But his gentle smile became a frown as he remembered her fate. His master is long gone....

If only he was stronger!

If only he was fast enough!

... if only he could have saved her.

He shook his head clearing himself from that toxic rabbit hole of thoughts that infested his mind from time to time. He took a long deep breath.

He was strong now, he could save others now.

And he would be damned if he let a soul suffer when he would has capable of helping them.

That is why he was a 'hero'!

Give or take the legality department. he smirked.
