Childishness

Summary:

"Is all you ever do think about yourself?" Shinobu's indignant facial expression only made Giyuu feel more irritated. "What are you talking about? You never stop complaining. I can't even hear myself think." She stormed out, leaving him behind to pout in silence. "Bastard."

In which, neither Giyuu nor Shinobu handle a fight they had maturely.

Work Text:

Shinobu huffed over her bowl of rice, only further making Mitsuri wish she could molt and run away, like Iguro's snake. "Why is the guy I like such an idiot?" Mitsuri hummed, speaking in-between bites of her rice, while Kanae was smart enough to remain silent. "Well, everyone's an idiot sometimes, right?" Shinobu raised an eyebrow. "Not you, not you, not you!" Mitsuri sighed, hoping Iguro was having more luck on his end.

"Dark Waters. A poem by Giyuu Tomoika." God, this sounded absolutely abhorrent, but that wasn't going to stop Giyuu from reading it aloud to both Iguro and Rengoku.

"The cruel waves of change,
have washed me ashore on a,
bleak beach of despair."

Rengoku gave a polite smattering of applause, leaning in to whisper next to Iguro, while not taking his eyes off the melancholy Giyuu. "What does that mean?" Iguro shook his head. It was probably best not to try and find out. "It's a very..unique work, Tomoika." Giyuu took no notice of the praise, too busy sulking. "It reflects the inner workings of my soul."

Iguro nodded along, pretending like that meant something.

Kanae put down her chopsticks, deciding that it was time to get to the bottom of how this had happened. "So, what did Giyuu actually do?" Shinobu frowned, her fingers pinching down hard on the wooden implements. "He was being an insensitive piece of shit." That didn't actually tell her much, but Kanae continued playing therapist. "And then what did you.."

"Called him an insensitive piece of shit."

They were both actual toddlers. "Okay. Do you feel bad about doing that?" Shinobu looked away, clearly feeling bad about it, but not wanting to admit that. Now this was going somewhere. "You should both apologise."

Shinobu's chopsticks were suddenly buried into the wooden table, standing up on their own. "That son of a bitch should be apologizing to me!" One step forward, one-hundred steps back. Mitsuri stood up, seemingly unable to handle the atmosphere anymore. "Excuse me."

Iguro could only hope his crow was there by now, counting on its fast flying to save him from this misery. "This one is called Somber Waves." He slumped forward, head banging against the table, foaming at the mouth. Rengoku quickly resuscitated the Snake Pillar. "Don't leave me all alone with him!"

There was a soft tweeting, which meant it was time to actually do something about this predicament. Iguro grabbed Giyuu's sleeve. "We'll help cheer you up."

At the same time, Mitsuri came back, nearly hefting up Shinobu out of her seat. "I think I know what'll put a smile on your face!"

Despite protests from both sides, no one gave in and let them go back to sulking. Mitsuri noticed black and white stripes from across the empty field, before Iguro saw green and pink hair. Giyuu tried to dig his heels into the dirt, but Rengoku kept dragging him along. Meanwhile, Shinobu was unable to escape Mitsuri's eightfold grip. The two forces met, beginning an unofficial Pillar meeting.

Iguro cleared his throat. "It hasn't even been a full day, and you're both impossible to be around. Make up."

Everyone moved a respectful distance away, letting the two talk it out.

"You're a dumbass," Shinobu informed him, still looking cross. Giyuu was rather sedate about the whole thing, hanging his head low. "I know. Sorry." A small hand went up to ruffle the spiky hair on that head. "But I'm a dumbass, too. And I'm sorry." He looked up, blinking. "I'll try to be better about understanding what you want." Shinobu sighed. "And I won't get so angry about every little thing."

"You wanna go beat them up for this little stunt?"

"Absolutely."
