Work Text:
Tokoyami sat in the common room with Sato, Kaminari, Sero and Jirou. Sero flipped through the television channels, while Sato sat in front of a row of tiny cakes, which he all tried to decorate with delicate details. He even used tweezers to place some chocolate chips. Jirou wrote lyrics in a notebook, with Kaminari making suggestions every once in a while. Tokoyami scrolled trough his phone, when the entrance door suddenly opened.
"We're back!" Kirishima called out, holding up two shopping bags. Mina and Bakugou entered behind them, equally loaded. They set the bags on the counter and Tokoyami got up to help putting things away in the fridge or kitchen cabinets.
"Hey, headphones!" Bakugou called out and walked over to her with a different bag. "I got your cable. Make sure that damn rabbit doesn't get to it again." He warned, handing her the cable for her bass she asked them to bring.
"Thank you. I'll pay you back later, okay?"
When Bakugou returned to the counter to help with the rest of the groceries, Tokoyami was surprised when Bakugou tapped something against his shoulder. He turned his head and saw Bakugou wordlessly holding out a small packet of strings.
"Strings?"
"Yours broke, right?" Bakugou grumbled out as several eyes were fixed on them. It was very quiet for a moment, when everyone halted what they were doing.
"Yes. That is correct. Though I did not ask for them..." Tokoyami pointed out.
"I know. See it as a present. They were cheap, so if they are not right I can return them." Bakugou stated, still holding the strings out for Tokoyami to take.
"They should be fine." Tokoyami said, finally taking a closer look. "Thank you. I can pa-"
"I just said you can see it as a present. You didn't ask for them." Bakugou said, before turning around going through one of the other shopping bags so he could get back to stocking the refrigerator.
"Who the hell put all these cans in the fridge?! They go in the cupboards until they are opened!" Bakugou yelled and looked right at Mina.
"Hey! Why are you looking at me?! The others could have done it too!"
"I taught Kirishima better than that and the others have better common sense than to put them all in here." Bakugou said, grabbing the cans and putting them all back down on the counter.
Tokoyami was surprised how attentive Bakugou was. He really hadn't expected for the blonde to bring him now guitar strings, yet alone know he broke some. It was an unexpectedly nice action. Kirishima gave him a wide grin and while Mina and Bakugou kept bickering, Tokoyami shifted closer to the red head.
"Did you tell him?"
"What?" Kirishima asked confused.
"About the strings."
"Oh! No." Kirishima clarified. "I didn't even know yours broke, until Bakugou was looking at the strings."
"I see." Tokoyami said. A crackling sounded from Bakugou and Mina jumped out of the way as the blonde swiped his sparkling hand at her like a playful cat. The look on his face did not look particularly playful, but Mina laughed and soon after a grin slipped onto Bakugou's face.
That evening, while looking at his poster, documenting good deeds, Bakugou found a new raven sticker in the row of Tokoyami's name.
-----.....-----.....-----
Bakugou marched his way up the stairs to the second floor of the boys side of the dorm, with a tiny jacket in his hand. There was only one person it could belong to. Maybe two, if he counted Eri, though he never saw Eri wear something like this before. He pounded on the door to a certain purple haired classmate.
"Open up Mineta!" He yelled. "I found your fucking jacket!" He said, when there was no reaction. The door remained closed and it took longer than Bakugou liked to admit for him to remember, that Mineta went out with some other people to work on a group project. He hung the jacket on the doorknob and was about to leave the floor, when the muffled music he heard the entire time changed to a song he knew.
The blonde halted in his step and looked down the hallway. Deku, Aoyama and Tokoyami all lived on the same floor. It would be too ironic if Deku listened to the same music he liked, though Midoriya's room was closest and the music sounded further away. Aoyama would also be a strange coincidence, so that only left one more person. Tokoyami's room was furthest down the hall, which would also explained, why the music was so quiet. He briefly considered to knock at the raven head's door, but decided against it in the end. That would be kind of weird.
He kept the music choice in mind though and a few days later he saw his chance to casually bring it up. Half the class was studying in the common room, doing homework- or at least had been, until Mina, Sero and Denki demanded a break and Kirishima used the chance to get up himself. Almost everyone got up to stretch or use the bathroom, with the exception of Ida who was adamant to finish his work as soon as possible and Tokoyami, who remained seated with headphones on.
"What are you listening to?" Bakugou asked casually, resting his chin on his hand, looking as nonchalant as he could.
Tokoyami glanced at him and Bakugou wondered if he was heard, though he would not repeat himself again.
"Galneryus."
"Mhmm." It definitely was the same band he listened to. "You like them?" Bakugou asked.
"Yes. Do you know them?" Tokoyami got suspicious. Bakugou usually did not talk to him.
"I've listened to some of their songs." Bakugou admitted.
"Have you listened to some of their new songs?" Tokoyami asked, sliding his headphones off and hanging them around his neck.
"Yeah, their new album sounds pretty good."
"Yes. I like the songs as well. It captures the inner loathing darkness in a very melodic way."
Bakugou blinked at that description, trying to process the words. He knew Tokoyami could be dramatic, but holy fuck.
"I always wanted to go to one of their concerts." Tokoyami continued. "Though it always was a little far before I moved here."
"You could go now, if they still give concerts."
"They do. But going alone seems like a dark and lonely pastime."
"I would go with you."
Tokoyami did a double take. Did he hear correctly? Did Bakugou seriously just offer to go to a concert with him? Was this a dream? "They perform next weekend, if you have time." Tokoyami informed Bakugou once he managed to get over the initial surprise.
"I have therapy on Saturday, but I could move it."
Would Bakugou ever stop surprising him? Would it be insensitive to comment on the new information he received? "I wasn't aware you had an appointment. The concert is on Saturday evening though. We would have to get permission to leave so late and possibly to stay past curfew though."
"We can ask Aizawa if we can go, before we get the tickets. Unless they sell them there." Bakugou said.
"They do sell some there, though it would be easier to get them in advance. I heard it is cheaper too."
"Yeah, then let's ask Aizawa tomorrow after class." Bakugou said.
"Do you think any one else would like to join?" Tokoyami asked, unsure what it would be like to go to a concert alone with Bakugou.
"Maybe Jirou. Kirishima and Kaminari would probably come too if we asked. I don't think Sero will like their music too much."
In the end the only other person they could truly interest to come with them was Jirou. Apparently she also liked their songs and was looking forward to a chance to get to know the band better. They not only manage to get permission to go from Aizawa, but an offer to drive them from Mic as well. Tokoyami and Bakugou decided to sit in the back of the car, since Jirou had much more to talk about with Mic. As it turned out, Mic was also interested in the small concert and decided to stay, rather than driving back home.
"Have you been to any other concerts before?" Bakugou asked Tokoyami, while they waited for the show to start. Mic and Jirous were still discussing some other band.
"No. But I always wanted to go. What about you?"
"My mom took me to a few." Bakugou said. Tokoyami vaguely remembered Bakugou's parents were designers and wondered if they liked the same kind of music Bakugou did.
"What kind of concerts? Where they similar to this?"
Bakugou smiled, which was a good sign. Tokoyami was glad the other was not bothered by the question. "Yeah, my mom likes pretty much the same music I do. My dad is not as much a music fan. He wanted me to learn the piano or violin."
"So it was your mothers idea for you to learn the drums instead?"
"She just showed up one day, said she ordered a drum set and that it would arrive the next day. I fought her about taking lessons until I she dragged me, not leaving me much of a choice."
It was a little surreal, that he was sitting next to Bakugou, chatting about his family. They rarely talked at all and usually it only happened during training or classes. The lights dimmed down and it got quieter. The singer of the band stepped forward to welcome the guests and thank everyone for coming, before announcing their first song.
The show had been great. Tokoyami truly enjoyed himself and the songs were still stuck in his head on the ride home. They all kept discussing their favorite parts and songs of the concert. Mic walked them back to the dorms where they thanked him for driving and said good night.
Despite the entire event having turned more into a group activity they all put effort in, Tokoyami felt like it all started with Bakugou offering to go to the concert with him. That night, before going up to his room, Tokoyami placed one of his raven stickers onto Bakugou's poster to thank him.
-----.....-----.....-----
Tokoyami hadn't felt well all day. It started out with a mild headache when he got up and only got worse as the day went on. He remained quiet during class and somehow managed to survive practice. It was truly a miracle because as soon as he got back to the dorms he shut himself in his room and lay down in bed. This was no longer a headache. It had turned into a migraine that left him nauseous.
Bakugou looked around the common room, where everyone was seated at the tables eating dinner. Everyone except for one person.
"Have you seen Tokoyami?" He asked Kirishima, who sat next to him.
"Hmm? Not since practice." Kirishima answered thoughtfully.
"I texted him earlier and still didn't get an answer." Oujirou joined the conversation.
"He went to his room earlier." Midoriya supplied.
Bakugou held back a 'who asked you nerd?' And instead got up.
"Are you going to look for him?" Kirishima asked surprised.
"He looked terrible during practice." Bakugou tried to justify his concern.
"How can you tell? It's not like he got any paler..." Mina asked confused, though Bakugou had already turned his back to them and was on his way to the stairs.
He walked to the back of the second hallway and knocked on Tokoyami's door. Now that he thought about it, he never saw his room before. He hadn't seen many rooms in general since he missed out on the room tour everyone had done when they moved in. Bakugou received no answer, so he tried again.
"Hey! Are you in there?" He yelled and this time he received a low groan in response.
"Can I come in?" Bakugou asked, just as loud.
The response he got sounded neither like a yes, nor a no, so he took it as confirmation. Tokoyami was in bed, holding a pillow over his eyes, while a lamp was turned on in the dark room. The moment Bakugou opened the door, Dark Shadow shot towards him. Bakugou barely managed to doge the demon.
"What the fuck?!" He yelled.
Something that sounded like a mix of a whine and a groan escaped Tokoyami. "'Shadow no." He barely whispered.
"Hey, what's going on?" Bakugou asked suspicious of the situation.
"His head hurts." Dark Shadow supplied, getting a lot closer to Tokoyami again.
Bakugou took a cautious step forward and promptly had the Demon back in his face.
"Migraine." Tokoyami said quietly.
"Do you want some medicine? You should probably turn the light off."
"Can't control Shadow." Tokoyami said, pressing the pillow closer to his face.
Bakugou looked down at the raven headed figure under the blankets.
"I'll get some medicine. Don't you dare throw up. I won't clean that shit up." He warned and was gone quicker than he came. Bakugou went back downstairs, immediately getting everyone's attention. Multiple questions were asked at once.
"Is he not coming down?"
"Is he sick?"
"Did he get hurt?"
"Is Tokoyami alright?"
"He has a migraine." Bakugou explained. "Does anyone have medicine? Uraraka, you have a sleeping mask, right?"
"U-ugh yes. I have a mask. Does he need it?"
"I think it could help."
"I can get him some lavender oil." Hagakure offered.
"I can make him an ice pack." Todoroki spoke up.
"Does he want some tea?" Momo asked.
"I just read lemon water is supposed to help. "Oujiro joined the conversation, or rather the list of offered help. He had his phone in hand, looking up migraine remedies.
"I can help you carry things upstairs." Shouji offered. "We probably shouldn't all go."
"Good, does anyone have glow sticks or something? Dark Shadow is somewhat out of control." Bakugou explained.
"Shouldn't we call Aizawa in that case?" Ida asked. "And I don't have medication, but I can run and get Recovery Girl."
"I don't think we have to bother them." Bakugou said. "Really? No one has medication?- Fine. Go ask recovery Girl for something." Bakugou grumbled, walking over to the kitchen, were Todoroki put some ice in a bag.
"Are you making soup?" The dual quirk user asked, when Bakugou got out a pot.
"Yeah. Just some miso. It's better then nothing and he should stay hydrated."
In the meantime everyone gathered whatever they could or wanted to offer to help Tokoyami. Shouji carried everything except for the bowl of soup, which Bakugou carried himself. Dark Shadow was on them even before they reached Tokoyami's room. Luckily Bakugou expected something like this happening already and let Shouji go ahead, who easily got the demon to back off by holding up a glow stick Kaminari had lying around.
Shouji set the things down as quietly as he could and only nodded at Bakugou as he stepped out of the room. Bakugou took the glow stick and warningly held it up to the Demon, who immediately cowered.
"Okay, I got Pocari Sweat and Miso soup for you. You have to try at least one and take these pills." Bakugou ordered, making it clear he would not accept a refusal. "If you have to throw up, do it in the bucket." Bakugou limited his words to the bare minimum.
Once Tokoyami tried some Misou soup and swallowed the pills down with water he silently handed the sleeping mask over. He took some of the lavendar oil and rubbed it into the towel Todoroki had wrapped around the bag of ice. The bag went onto Tokoyami's forehead, so it turned out as a pretty good choice. It also was far less awkward than rubbing the oil onto Tokoyami's face or arms.
Once Bakugou was done with all tasks he needed to see well for, he turned off the light, leaving the room even darker then before. Dark Shadow immediately tried to gain control, but the glow stick and Bakugou's phone were enough to warn him and make Dark Shadow turn his head down in submission. Bakugou remained seated next to Tokoyami's bed, until Aoyama came and offered to sit in his place.
Tokoyami did not get to thank all his classmates that evening, but he did thank everyone as soon as he felt better. He also added a sticker to quite a few of his classmates posters, including Bakugou's, who he found out was the first to wonder where he was and looked for him out of his own free will.
