Katsuki is the black sheep of his tribe — the tribe under the sun god, Kané. Ostracized for his refusal to join his people’s military ranks, Katsuki spends his days traversing the dense forest outside his village, mapping out each and every landmark. Even if he’s despised by his people, Katsuki enjoys his quiet life.
In a single night, Katsuki watches his village go up in flames when a rogue tribe attacks in the dead of night. In order to save one of his fellow tribesmen, Katsuki throws himself into a gruesome battle between himself and a volatile man gifted by the god of lightning. When it is revealed Katsuki is the one the rogues seek — gifted by his god and able to produce explosions of mass destruction — Katsuki finds himself becoming their unwilling guest.
Katsuki, who fears his own gift more than anything, is torn between hatred and the desire to run. However, the chief of the rogues, Kirishima, is determined to show him just how much freedom he can have when he learns to let those fears go, and take control of his own life.
