Chapter Text
“CHEERS!” Fundy whooped loudly, his mic nearly cutting out from the sheer volume of his voice. He raised his bottle to the sky, grinning widely. “Here’s to many more wars to come!”
The VC filled with a chaotic—but merry—medley of voices as people all around him raised their own bottles, all shouting the same thing. “Cheers!” Tommy yelled, nearly spilling the mundane potion in his own glass bottle out of excitement.
Tubbo nudged him playfully, his eyes shining with joy. “Isn’t this great?” He said breathlessly.
“Yeah!” Tommy agreed loudly, taking a swig of the mundane potion. Like most of the potions that the others were drinking, it gave no effects, but had a pleasant fruity taste.
“Congrats, everyone!” Wilbur called over the loud sounds of celebration, his voice somehow rising to the top of everyone else’s. “That was an awesome end to the season! The viewers are already asking for more!”
“All thanks to Tommy and Dream.” Eret added, smiling proudly at Tommy. “That disc exchange scene was excellent.” Tommy beamed back happily at the older man, and looked over to where Dream was standing.
The group was all gathered on a grassy hill that overlooked the remains of L’manburg. Dream was slightly off to the side, gathered with George and Sapnap, but grinned and gestured for Tommy to come over when he looked his way.
Slightly surprised, Tommy gave Dream a thumbs-up to show he was coming, then turned to his friend. “Wait here, Tubbo.”
“Huh?” The older boy looked up at his friend, puzzled. “Where are you going?”
“Dream wants me, I think.” Tommy puffed up his chest, smirking importantly at Tubbo. “Probably wants to speak to the biggest man in the room.”
“We’re not in a room though…? Oh, whatever. Just don’t leave me here the whole time.” Tubbo joked, uncorking his own bottle and taking a sip.
Tommy nodded, before turning and making his way over to Dream. The older man was alone now, George and Sapnap having moved over to speak with Wilbur. Out of the corner of his eye, Tommy could see the VC settings, and noticed that Dream was no longer in the group VC. Assuming that Dream wanted to talk to him, Tommy pulled up his settings and left the VC too.
He waved at Dream as he drew near, and the older man waved back, smiling. Dream swiped at the air in front of himself, clearly accessing his personal game settings. A moment later, an in-game chat message popped up for Tommy.
Dream whispers to you: vc2? :)
Tommy didn’t bother replying through chat, just gave Dream another thumbs up before tapping on the VC2 icon in his settings.
“Hey Tommy!” Dream greeted as soon as the younger boy joined the VC. “Great job with the disc scene!”
“Oh. Uh, thanks!” Tommy replied, a bit awkwardly. “You too. You’re really good at acting.”
Dream waved a dismissive hand around. “Nah, you’re definitely better.” He commented offhandedly. “Anyways, can we talk?”
Tommy looked up at the older man, half suspicious, half nervous. “I haven’t done anything wrong.” He replied immediately, frowning in displeasure as Dream burst out into laughter.
“No, no! That’s not what I meant.” Dream assured him. “I just…well, I wanted to apologize.”
It was Tommy’s turn to laugh. “What do you mean, apologize? For what?”
Dream smiled slightly as Tommy continued to chuckle, but his eyes were serious. “I mean, I am playing the villain in the story. The villain that you’re supposed to hate, might I add.” He crossed his arms, suddenly looking a bit sheepish. “I just wanted to make sure that there are no hard feelings between us.”
Tommy stopped laughing, slightly surprised by the sincerity in Dream’s voice. “It’s alright, man. I know it’s all just an act.”
“Yeah. I just wanted to make sure.” Dream repeated, though his smile was a bit too relieved to pass off as casual. “And I guess I’m sorry for blowing up your country. And shooting you in-game. And taking your discs. You know, I can always give them back when we’re not streaming—”
“It’s fine, it’s fine!” Tommy laughed, cutting off Dream before he could go on to list the rest of his character’s misdeeds. “No hard feelings at all.”
“You know,” Dream started abruptly. “All of this is amazing. It’s still so shocking that this went from a two-player server to an entire storyline.” He smiled warmly at Tommy. “I’m really proud of all of you for bringing so much to this server.”
“Oh. I—” Tommy didn’t really know how to answer. Truth be told, he wasn’t that close with Dream, so it was surprising to suddenly be speaking with him without their usual quips and banter. “Thank you?” He finished uncertainly.
They shared a genuine smile for a few seconds. Then, the moment was broken by a commotion back at the top of the hill, where someone appeared to have accidentally drunk a potion of leaping.
“Well.” Tommy smirked, watching as Fundy was catapulted high into the air, his mouth open in a scream that neither of them could actually hear. “Let’s get back to celebrating!”
“Agreed.” Dream tilted his glass bottle in mock farewell, grinning as they both left VC2 and returned to the much more chaotic group call.
