The first thing Ahsoka was aware of was her head hurting. Then, as her body continued to wake up, she felt the nausea, the shakiness. People were murmuring near her, and she just wanted them to shut up.
She tried telling them so, but all that came out was a mumble.
“Anakin, I think she’s waking up,” an accented voice said.
Who was Anakin?
Panic suddenly spiked through her, and she sat up. On instinct, she reached for her lightsabers on her belt. Thank the stars, they were there! She unsheathed them and held them out in front of her. Two confused and terrified faces bathed in green met her.
She had no idea who they were.
“Ahsoka—” the one on the right began to say. His hair was red, and he wore a full beard. He was shorter, maybe only a few inches taller than her rather than the half a foot the other man clearly had over her.
She cut him off, demanding, “How do you know my name?”
“Master, what do we do?” the tall man asked, wavy hair that fell nearly down to his shoulders shifting slightly as he raised his hands and stepped back. His right hand had a glove on it. Curious. And clearly, he wasn’t talking to her.
Ahsoka just bared her teeth, keeping her lightsabers level.
The bright light sparked pain through her, and the hum seemed to vibrate in her skull, throbbing, throbbing…
“Well, clearly, she has amnesia.”
“Yes, I gathered that. Now what?”
“Hey!” she cried. “I’m right here. Either of you going to talk to me and tell me what’s going on?”
The man with the gloved hand came forward, dark robes swaying in a mesmerizing manner.
“I’m Anakin Skywalker,” he told her. “Your master.”
She raised an eyebrow at that. “Master?”
“Yes, you’re my Padawan.”
Ahsoka just stared at him blankly, not knowing what that word meant. She wasn’t sure she knew what a Jedi was either.
“Apprentice,” he supplied. “I’ve been training you, and this is Obi-Wan.” He put a hand on the older man’s shoulder. “He was my master when I was a Padawan, and he’s a friend, just like I am. Now, Ahsoka, you can lower your lightsabers. I promise we won’t hurt you. Everything’s alright, we’ll make sure of it.”
Not totally sure why, Ahsoka listened to him, feeling herself ease somewhat from his tone.
Still, she stayed poised at the end of her cot in the gray and white room that was clearly a med bay—it was stocked with equipment and supplies, those of which she did find somewhat familiar, if only in the way they looked.
“There, see? Everything’s okay. Uh… Obi-Wan, you mind leaving us alone? I’ve got this.”
“Don’t break anything while I’m gone,” Obi-Wan said, tone completely deadpan. Then, he turned to leave.
Anakin rolled his blue eyes at him. Then, he settled down on the floor by Ahsoka’s cot, to better be on her eye level.
“What do you remember?” he asked.
Blast, he was too close. He was too close!
“I don’t know you.”
Her head swirled, and Anakin’s face became a mask of pain.
“Ahsoka—”
He tried reaching out for her, and she grabbed one of her lightsabers, holding the hilt out, threatening.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Ahsoka, it’s me!”
She ignited the blade once more. “I don’t know who you are!”
“We don’t need the lightsaber,” he argued. “Put it down!”
“Leave me alone!”
He reached out for her, and she tried lunging at him. She toppled over, lightsaber falling from her hand, the blade retracting. Anakin caught her, and she started punching at whatever part of him she could.
“Calm down!”
Yes, yelling was a very effective way of telling her to calm down. And she would most certainly not calm down. There was a stranger in her room!
Throat aching, frightened and pained tears trailing down her face she cried, “Get off me, get off me! Let me go!”
Anakin released her, and she collapsed back onto her cot.
The inside of her head throbbed, and the world seemed to pulse.
Fear still living in her, Ahsoka’s world started tunneling.
Anakin’s hands were on her, as if to protect her, and there was nothing she could do.
“Obi-Wan!” he cried. “Obi-Wan, help!” Then, he turned to her. “I’m here. I’m with you. It’s okay.”
Ahsoka’s world faded, yet she could not escape the question in her mind: Who are you?
