In the center of this ruin, lies Makoto Niijima. A hurting husk of a human, feeling extensive guilt, and immense rage.

Chapter 1: Hallelujah

Chapter Text

“Hello, this is Sasori Mino, today is November 1 st , and you are watching the United News Network. Today’s top story is a continuation of the past few days. The world is still reeling from the event that has come to be known as ‘The Day of Shadows’. Many locations have began the process of reparations, including the United States, Europe, and major locations throughout Asia. Some locations were hit harder than others such as places with a fractured infrastructure, while some handled the onslaught with ease. Regardless, the world is still dealing with the aftermath of such a cataclysmic incident.

More than that, the masses are also struggling with the prospect of the world’s supposed saviors, The Phantom Thieves of Hearts. On that fateful day, the Phantom Thief known as Queen broadcasted a message to the world, calling the people to action. Discussions have been sparked worldwide as a result of this message and the Phantom Thieves actions, protecting the world from the god that is now being referred to as Yaldabaoth.

Did the Phantom Thieves save the world?

Or did they cause the very disaster that doomed it in the first place?

Pop culture has exploded since this fateful day, with songs, movies, tv shows, and video games being conceptualized about both the end of the world, and the heroic Phantom Thieves.

And while we here at the United News Network strive to remain as impartial as possible…we would just like to thank the firefighters, soldiers, police officers, doctors, and even Phantom Thieves that fought to save the world from ruin.

And our heart goes out to Shibuya, Japan, ground zero of the Day of Shadows.

And to the many that lost their lives in the cataclysm.”

“Now I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you dont really care for music, do you?”

Six men in black carry a coffin on their shoulders. Holding it with recklessness, tripping and falling at every turn, laughing and mocking the body in their possession.

The people following them, they weren’t talking about the memory of the dead, only about their own interests. How their day is going, what clothes they are wearing, what’s new in the world.

Only one person cared about the funeral, but her voice was crushed among the midst of the apathetic and the uncaring.

“Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth

The minor fall and the major lift

The baffled king composing hallelujah”

The body was finally dropped, not lifted, but dropped into the hole. Laughter erupted, like an old sixties tv show. People lined up to spit into the tomb, and disrespect it at every turn. Two blondes, then two black haired men, then an orange haired girl, a brunette with fluffy hair, and so on and so forth.

The last one, with brunette hair herself looked upon the broken, destroyed, and shattered coffin. It flowed with maggots and cicadas and more and more disgusting creatures.

She could barely hear the priest behind her mock the body in the coffin. She could barely hear the musicians chant Hallelujah.

She only lingered upon a memory.

“How did you know he was hiding under the cupboards? We had looked there time and time and time again and yet-“

“Well…it’s what I’d do. If we were Phantom Thieves, still, we would go to any cunning to get the job done.”

“…How did you do it?”

“…By thinking like a criminal, I suppose.”

“You failed him, you know?”

Makoto whipped her head around to face the priest, and all of the other guests and funeral goers staring at her. All of them her fellow Phantom Thieves, sneering at her. And the priest?

The priest was the man himself.

Ren Amamiya.

“He put his life in your hands.

And you crushed it.

Everything that happens, everything that is about to happen?”

Ren, along with all of the guests, their eyes flashed gold.

“…This is your fault.”

And they all pounced on her, devouring her, ripping her to shreds, leaving nothing left and tearing and tearing and tearing…

And then she woke up.
