Chapter 1: We Meet Again

Chapter Text

Monoma opened his eyes, the bright sun almost blinding. He blinks a few times and tries to regain his bearings, but he can't remember anything after-

Oh no.

He can see it now. The cuts, the pain, the lifelessness. The heist, the heroes, the anger.

Ketsueki.

What happened to Ketsueki?

Monoma immediately tries to shoot up from where he was lying down. His body feels tired and his limbs feel heavy, so it's a struggle for him to even be able to sit up. The cloth of the hospital gown is soft though, and he almost lets it lull him back to sleep. Shaking his head to clear those thoughts, he decided to take note of his surroundings. Glancing around the room, he saw what looked to be a heart monitor as well, the soft beep it gave every few seconds reminding him that all this was real.

He looked at the door on the other side of the room.

'I need to get out of here.' he thought.

Ignoring the aches of his limbs and the tired feeling he gets whenever he moves a muscle, he tries to run towards the door on the other side of the room. He feels a tug on his arm that almost makes him fall, but he manages to just stumble a little and stand straight.

'IV cords are connected to me, huh. How did I not notice them?' he questions himself, then yanks them out with force. He immediately regrets that decision when an area on his arm hurts with searing pain, then quickly started to feel numb, but he ignores it and walks out of the door. He looked at his arms briefly, and noticed his skin looked paler than before. Choosing to ignore it again, he continued on.

Creeping stealthily, he makes it out of the building he recognized to be a hospital with ease. 'Thank All Might for hero training, I never would have gotten out of there if I was a normal civilian.' he thought to himself, walking into the broad daylight.

He moved swiftly across the streets, using alleyways and small spaces to stop people from seeing him. He doesn't really know where he's going, he's just moving until he can find a familiar landmark and go from there.

He's still worried about his sister though. He's not exactly sure about what happened to her, and for all he knew, she could be in danger.

He remembered what he had promised.

Monoma sighed. "I promise." he promised, though he felt a feeling of guilt settling within him. He knew he couldn't keep that promise, he couldn't find the energy to live anymore. If the mission failed, the League would be captured, and then he would definitely have nothing to live for. His life wasn't precious, in fact it was far from it, so he would use his energy to protect the lives that meant something.

Like his sister's.

He had to find her.

Just as he turned out of an alleyway to move to another, he bumps into someone and falls flat on his ass, the muscle stinging as he looks up.

And there, in all his glory, is Hitoshi Shinso, holding hands with Denki Kaminari. They seemed surprised, not that Monoma would blame them. His family had been on the news, he had injured his classmate, run away, betrayed U.A, hid out with villains, tried to commit a crime, and was possibly meant to be arrested when he woke up.

Though there was something different about them. Kaminari's and Shinso's hair were significantly longer, and they seemed broader and more defined than when Monoma had last seen them. Growing hair out and becoming buffer weren't things that happened overnight, so how long exactly was he in that hospital bed?

Days?

Weeks?

Months?

Years?

Just what the hell was going on?

"You're awake." Shinso mumbled, like he couldn't believe it.

"He's fucking awake." Kaminari repeated.

"Okay what the hell is going on?" Monoma snapped. People were starting to take pictures with their phones, and Monoma hated being in the dark and confused. It made him feel weak, like they all had the upper hand on him when it came to information.

With no explanation, Shinso dragged Monoma to his feet and hoisted him over his shoulder like Monoma was a sack of potatoes.

"Put me down!" Monoma screamed, thrashing and kicking his legs for emphasis. Shinso ignored him and continued to walk beside Kaminari as they headed towards only All Might knows where, as if Monoma's moving was nothing and Shinso was just walking normally.

A few minutes later, Monoma felt tired and a bit woozy, so he let his eyes close and he conked out. A while after, Kaminari noticed this and tapped Shinso's arm.

"The dude's out cold." Kaminari informed, before Shinso placed Monoma down on the pavement and knelt down beside him to check for himself.

"You're right." Shinso confirmed, after completing the procedures U.A had taught them to use to see if someone was unconscious.

U.A training was really useful in day to day situations. It made Shinso wonder if other schools like Shiketsu taught like that.

"Why though? He was able to make it to us from the hospital, and apart from looking a bit paler, he seems the same as when we last visited him." Kaminari thought out loud, not fully understanding the situation.

Shinso looked up at Kaminari to explain. "Monoma was most likely running on adrenaline when he left the hospital. Now that it has worn off, his body is feeling the effects of using up so much energy. My bet is that they hadn't changed the IV bag connected to him in the hospital, so he hasn't gotten enough nutrients for the day. Besides, he most likely just woke up from a year long coma."

Kaminari nodded. "That makes sense." then he looked thoughtful. "So shouldn't we get him to a hospital?"

Shinso shook his head. "Let's get him to Recovery Girl. If we took him to a hospital, he'd immediately be pestered by the media and police, which may overwhelm him and could possibly lead to him having a panic attack. Besides, U.A. is closer to where we are than the hospital. Monoma needs help as soon as possible, and delaying it may result in some complications, maybe even death." Shinso explained.

Kaminari still looked a bit apprehensive about taking Monoma to U.A, but Shinso had already picked the unconscious blond boy up from the floor and was walking in the direction of the school.

They got there soon enough, before swiping their ID cards at the entrance of the barrier. Hound Dog watched them from where he was stationed, and his confusion was obvious.

"What are you two doing with that person?" he asked, walking over to them.

Silently thanking whatever higher being was there that Monoma's face couldn't be seen because it was against his back, Shinso moved to speak. "Found him passed out near the school. We decided it would be easier and faster to get him to Recovery Girl than calling an ambulance or getting him to a hospital."

Kaminari gave him a look that said 'we?', but didn't say anything, opting to wait for Hound Dog's verdict.

Hound Dog heaved a sigh. "Okay, but I'll report this to Nezu. Just get them some help before it becomes serious."

Shinso nodded and took Kaminari's hand. "Come on, we need to get him some help."

Walking into the school, students of all years gawked at them, probably wondering why third - years were carrying a body. Some looked scared, but Monoma's body was really pale, and it did kind of look lifeless.

After knocking on the door, Shinso walked into the room. Recovery Girl looked up at them and frowned.

"Well goodness me, what happened?" she asked.

"We found him passed out near the school, so we decided to bring him here so that you could help him." Shinso explained, laying Monoma down on the bed.

Thankfully, there were no other students in the room, meaning no one would witness what was going on.

Recovery Girl's eyes widened when she saw who Shinso placed on the bed. "Neito Monoma..." she whispered, mostly to herself.

"He woke up and ran into us, before passing out a while after. I suspect that he doesn't have enough nutrients in his system, since he was in a coma as of late, and he used a lot of energy."

"U.A is a bit far from the hospital." Recovery Girl mused, before turning to Shinso and Kaminari. "Just so you two know, I can't hide this from Nezu. He has to know the truth."

Shinso nodded his head. "I'd never ask you to keep this a secret, but he needs medical attention right now, and being pestered by the media or police wouldn't help him."

Recovery Girl sighed. "I'll do my best. You two should head back to your dorms for now."

Shinso nodded again, before taking Kaminari's hand and walking out of the nurse's office.

"What do we do now?" Kaminari asked.

"We leave it to the school. I just hope that whatever happens, it doesn't harm Monoma more than he has already hurt himself." Shinso said truthfully, remembering all the scars he had seen on Monoma's body due to cuts.

His dad had described them to him after the incident, but Shinso had still struggled to believe it until today, when he had seen them decorating Monoma's arms and legs. Kaminari sighed and hugged Shinso in a tight embrace.

"Don't worry babe, I'm sure he'll be fine." Kaminari assured.

Shinso sighed and hugged Kaminari back just as tightly. "Thanks Denki."

"It's no problem!"

Trying to get Shinso's mind off of Monoma's condition, Kaminari smirked. "Are you ready for me to beat your ass in training?"

Shinso laughed. "We both know I'm the better fighter."

Kaminari pouted. "You're supposed to say 'I won't go easy on you just because we're dating' and then go easy on me and let me win!"

Shinso chuckled and took Kaminari's hand. "Come on, before they close the training rooms."

Kaminari smiled, happy that he was able to cheer his boyfriend up.

But what happens to Monoma?
