Prompt from miacefyre on tumblr: If your still doing prompts, how about one for RWBY where it’s the first time team CFVY see Oscar in vacuo. They recognise his cane and demand “where did you get that? You know who that belonged to?”
Oscar's POV
Breathing hard he tried to keep his feet under him. The sea of Grim seemed to be endless. With the gateway closed they couldnt backtrack and the sandstorm made moving forward almost impossible. It wasnt helping that the civilians around them were freaking out.
Ozpin said as Oscar leaned against Long Memory, "Oscar, stay aware. We arent out of this yet."
Tiredly he replied, :Yes, Oz.:
Bringing himself back into a defensive position he saw Ren and Nora take down a large Grim. Searching the battlefield he found a Beowulf trying to get around the huntsman. Right for a small group of children.
Pushing past his exhaustion Oscar tried to rush and protect them. Only for the sand to be shot into the air. It came from a machine gun that he barely heard over the sound of the sandstorm.
What? No one there had a weapon like that? Had help finally arrived?
He found several shapes of people heading towards them. A few were in uniforms and others were in combat gear. It made his shoulders slump in relief.
Ozpin sighed in relief of his own, "Those are students from Shade. They must have started patrols after everything that's been happening."
Oscar sighed but didnt let his guard down as he attacked the nearby Grim. Together they were able to clear a path to Shade. Oscar took up position as rear guard to ensure that all the civilians made it first.
More than once he and the Shade Academy students had to step in to protect the civilians. As soon as they were in view of the Academy, professor came out in droves to aid the injured. Only one hung back his eyes sweeping over everyone.
"That's Theodore," supplied Ozpin sounding relieves, "He is the Headmaster of Shade. We will need to bring him up to speed as soon as possible. Especially since we dont know if Qrow made it out or not."
Oscar nodded too tired to reply outloud. He slowly made his way towards the entrance of Shade. Only a few feet from the entrance however he was stopped.
A girl in a long, cocoa-colored shirt with an upturned layered frill collar with a black single strapped waist cincher. She wore tight black leather trousers that have golden lining around the pocket and ribbons attached to the back of a golden zipper seam around her knees. All in all she was intimidating to most of those around them. After everything he had been through she was not intimidating to him.
Ozpin supplied helpfully, "That is Coco Adel a former Beacon student and leader of Team CFVY. It's good to see that she made it out of the Fall. Both her and her team are valuable allies."
Except that she growled at him pointing to Long Memory in his hands, "Where did you get that? You know who that belonged to?”
"Uh oh."
Oscar agreed with the sentiment. As a former Beacon student of course she would recognize the cane. She probably saw it every day.
Another voice questioned, "Coco what's the hold up? We need to get everyone inside."
A female rabbit faunus, a fox faunus who appeared to be blind, and a giant of a man approached. Their eyes immediately fell onto what had caught Coco's attention. Like her, their attitude shifted immediately becoming more on edge.
Ozpin supplied, "This is the rest of Team CFVY. We cant explain to them without risking being overheard."
There was a nudge within his mind. One he knew for a fact did not come from Ozpin. Carefully he opened himself up to the communication.
A male voice asked in a low growl, :Who are you? Why do you have our Headmaster's cane?:
Coco's voice said outloud, "I just asked him that Fox!"
"I have the feeling that his answer is something he doesnt want overheard, Coco," replied the fox faunus, :This is secure. Only the five of us are in the connection.:
Ozpin was the one who answered, :Hello,children. It has been a long time. The explanation that comes with my cane and our young friend is a long one. One that Theodore should be apart of as well.:
The shock was clear on all four of their faces. They had not been expecting to hear Ozpin's voice.
Coco's face hardened as she said, "I want an explanation as soon as we get inside."
:Of course,: replied Ozpin easily but there was a weariness about it. Oscar felt it too. They had lost so much in such a short time and they needed new allies. This might be the best place to start.
