Angels weren’t supposed to sleep, but after the bachelor party, it would seem that someone had slipped him Angel Knockout Drugs. That part, he wouldn’t have minded, although waking up alone was disorienting after going to bed with both Meg and Sam. It was who he’d woken up as that bothered him.
He loved Sam, but there was no reason for him to be Sam. He could only hope that whatever had done this would be simple to fix before the wedding. The polycule was going to be complicated enough without complications over whether you were marrying a person’s body or soul. Dean was quite keen to marry Castiel, but had no intention of marrying Sam. Sam, of course, would feel rather awkward marrying himself.
From the way she barged into his room, Castiel was reasonably certain that Meg’s body was currently occupied by Dean. “Sammy, you ready to get up and figure out what the hell?”
“I’m not Sam, but I am ready to figure this out.” Castiel got to his feet. “Good morning, Dean. How bad is the mix-up?”
“Well, I’m this bitch. That right there has me pissed off.” Castiel crossed his arms and shot a glare at Dean, but Dean ignored it. Of course. Castiel was forever grateful that Meg’s demonhood meant that she didn’t care about Dean at all, given that she was planning on sharing a mate with someone who had no respect for her. “Anyway, Sam’s Benny, Benny is me, Meg’s you, and you’re Sam. Hell of a way to fuck up the wedding, ain’t it? We’re not supposed to see each other until the wedding, and yet, here we are.”
Castiel pushed past Dean, heading for the hallway to the library. “Has anyone spoken to Gabriel yet?” Under any other circumstance, Gabriel would be the first one Castiel accused – this was exactly the sort of trouble he enjoyed causing. Under these circumstances, maybe not. He had promised Sam that he would be on his absolute best behavior as he officiated the complicated wedding.
“C’mon, Big Bird.” Gabriel shot Castiel a wink. “Have a little faith in me, huh?”
Castiel started to protest that he was trying to have faith, but then he realized that with Gabriel, this could just as easily be an admission of guilt. “Can you fix this?”
“Course I can, when the time is right,” Gabriel scoffed. “Trust me, there’s a reason I did this, this is about keeping my promise to Sunfang.”
“Sunfang?” Dean and Castiel asked in unison.
“Sunfang. You know, Samshine is Sunshine and he’s currently fanged so he’s Sunfang?” Gabriel’s face split into a huge shit-eating grin. “You’re more curious about that than you are about the reason I did this?”
“Ugh. Fine.” Castiel put a hand to his face, trying to suppress the urge to punch his big brother. “Why did you do this, Gabriel?”
“Because Asshole Big Bro put a claim on Sam,” Gabriel said, all trace of mischief gone. “With you in his body, you can figure out whatever Luci’s claim is gonna do about him trying to take vows to someone else, and if the soul’s going to do something, Benny’s body is the most likely to be able to take it, and if it can’t, we’ll have Benny’s spirit here to regrow his body from with the spell.” Gabriel reached out, grabbing Castiel and Dean both by the arm. “Not a word to Sam about this unless it becomes necessary. I do not want that boy feeling like Lucifer is ruining his wedding. Understood?”
“Understood,” Castiel said, and Dean nodded beside him. “Gabriel, are you sure you don’t want to join…?”
“C’mon, dude, I can’t join the wedding and officiate it, and you know Sam doesn’t feel that way about me,” Gabriel said. “Time to find Sunfang and Thornfeather and Sharp and Deadly and get this show on the road.”
Nobody was happy about the situation, but Gabriel absolutely refused to switch them back before the wedding, and although they refused to explain why, Castiel and Dean backed him. Sam was pissed, but trusted Castiel when he said that there was a good reason for it.
“Big Bird, why don’t you start off with the vows? You’ve got the most, may as well get those over with,” Gabriel said, although Castiel suspected it was an excuse to get whatever might go wrong over with. Castiel was the only one marrying all of the others, it was true, so he went along with it easily enough. Nothing happened as he spoke to Dean, but when he turned to Sam, he could feel an itch starting deep in his chest. It divided his attention, but thankfully, it didn’t show, at least not that he noticed or that anyone else reacted to. It got even worse when he spoke his vows to Meg, but as he finished up with Benny, it went away. Castiel would keep an eye on it, but Sam’s body, at least, should be fine.
Sam and Benny both had three, and Gabriel called on Sam to go next. Sam chose to start with Castiel. As he spoke, Castiel noticed the words becoming harder to say, and he and Gabriel both reached out with their grace to attempt to fight. It was semi-successful, as Sam was able to push his way through and finish his vows to Meg and Benny as well. Castiel let himself relax – there shouldn’t be any trouble as Benny, Dean, and Meg said their parts.
“I now pronounce you married in the eyes of Heaven,” Gabriel said. “Let’s see some kisses!”
Castiel headed for Sam, assuming that if there was going to be any more trouble, it would happen now. May as well get it over with. As he kissed Sam, he could feel the heat rising in both of them, but before it could get too bad they were doused in a literal rain shower. He shot Gabriel an unamused glare, but at this point, there wasn’t much left to argue about. They were married. Lucifer couldn’t do anything about it.
