Chapter Text
It was night time, they were galloping really fast. She was holding a lantern in one hand. It was dark, they couldn’t see very much.
Kara was in the front, while Alex and Maggie were behind her. They were in a mission. It wasn’t easy finding the place they were looking. But they were finally there.
They were used to doing a lot of missions like this one. They were usually hired to find someone, save someone, recover something. And this mission was about finding a kidnapped lady. But not any lady, the wife of the most influential man of the region, Maxwell Lord.
Kara hated that man, she knew a lot of bad things he had done. But they need the money and they needed to make a good impression.
Kara was a member of a group of people, lost people that want to do some good. Her cousin was the leader. And they were planning in taking down some bad people , but to get the plan working they need to have a influence. And that’s why they were in the mission.
Of course that was the main goal, but Kara couldn’t help to want to really help this lady. She was kidnapped and she wasn’t even sure if they would find her alive. The lady was missing for two weeks.
They had to do a lot of research but they ended up discovering the place the kidnapper had taken her.
They arrived at the location. A small house in the middle of a forest. In the middle of nowhere.
“Hey, we should go walking from here. Lets leave the horses here.” Kara said while dismounting her horse.
Alex and Maggie did the same. All the girls tied their horses in a tree and started walking towards the house.
“We have no ideia how many people are there. Let’s be careful.” Maggie said.
“Kara, you go to the front door, Maggie and I will go in trough the window behind the house.” Alex said and Kara nodded.
Kara was holding her revolver inside her coat. She came close to the door. There was no noise inside the house except for the cracks of the fireplace.
She knocked the door. A man holding a shotgun opened. Kara immediately pushed him and disarmed the man. Now she was the one holding the shotgun in his face.
“Please, don’t hurt him.”
A brunette with green eyes was now pointing a gun to Kara’s face. Kara came to the conclusion that this woman was the lady they were looking. But why was she defending her kidnapper?
“Drop the weapon!” Alex shouted while standing behind the woman and next to Maggie.
The room was tense, all the weapons still up.
“Hey! Everybody just calm down! We are here to rescue, Miss Lord I suppose.” Maggie said looking to the brunette who was pointing the gun to Kara.
“I don’t need to be rescued! I wasn’t kidnapped!“ The woman shouted and started putting the weapon down. “I don’t want to come back.”
Alex and Kara exchanged looks, they were confused. However there was no reason the woman would be lying about this.
Kara put her weapon down and let the man she was holding go.
“Alex.” She could tell her sister wasn’t sure about this, but Alex put her gun in her pocket.
“Jack! Are you okay?” Maxwell’s wife asked the man.
“Yeah, I’m fine Lena.” He hugged her while the other three women just observed.
“So, you run away from Maxwell? Why?” Maggie asked.
“I was forced to marry him, and he is really bad. I could not take one more day with him.” Lena face was serious and her eyes looked hurt. “I would not survive. So I asked Jack to rescue me.”
Kara was felling sorry for this woman, she heard stories about Maxwell beating woman, torturing people and doing so many bad things. But this woman in front of her looked just complete innocent .
“You can’t take me back, please! I don’t even know who you work for, but please don’t take me back.”
Kara didn’t know this women, but she believed in her. She wanted to help her. She wanted to save her.
“We are not taking you back.” Kara said and Alex gave her a very angry look.
“Kara! We don’t even know her! This could be all a plan from Maxwell! Or even someone else! We can’t risk.” Alex said while Kara couldn’t stop staring Lena. The brunette was definitely thinking about something.
“If you take me and Jack to safety, I can give you information about Maxwell’s business.” Lena said while the three other women exchanged looks.
“Alex, this could be the opportunity we were looking for.” Kara told her sister, hopping Alex would be reasonable. More information could change everything.
Maggie turned to the window. “Guys, I’m seeing lights in the forest! Someone is coming!”
“Maxwell must have hired other people to find me.” Lena said looking a little nervous.
“We have to go! Let’s take them to our camp! Come on Alex, we don’t have a lot of time!” Kara said ready to leave the house.
“Fine. Let’s get our horses and get the hell away from here.”
They run off the house. Kara mounted her horse and helped Lena sit behind her. Jack has riding with Alex.
They started hearing some voices and then started galloping away.

Their horses were very fast, so It didn’t take long to get to the camp. They rode trough a swamp and arrived at the location - which was a very hidden one.
J’onn was waiting for them. And his face was a little shocked when he saw the girls with two more people.
They dismounted the horses. Alex went to talk with J’onn. Maggie asked Lena and Jack to sit near the fire pit. And Kara was responsible for taking care of the horses. She unsaddle, brushed and fed the animals. And then she came to sit near the fire pit.
“What information do you have?” J’onn asked Lena.
“First I want to get to safety. I want you to take to my brother.” Lena answered, feeling a lot more confident then when they were at the house.
“Who is your brother?” Kara asked.
“Lex Luthor.”
J’onn and Alex faces changed. And Kara realized getting this information would be a lot more difficult than she thought.
Lex Luthor was a big farmer, she didn’t know a lot about him - which is a good thing. The problem was the location of his farm. It was in the other side of the country. It would take a lot of days, maybe even weeks to get there riding a horse. And of course they couldn’t take the train, since Maxwell had a lot of influence in the area and probably already would be searching there.
“How about you tell us the information or we will immediately take you to your super kind husband?” Alex shouted and got a knife in her hand while she came close to Lena.
Lena on the other hand, didn’t even look scared. It was almost like she knew this would happen. The only thing she did was stare Kara’s eyes.
It was almost like she knew the blonde woman would not let anything happen to her.
“Alex! We need her as much as she need us.” Kara said while standing in front of her sister. Both of them staring each other.
“We need the information, but we don’t have enough time to take her there. The group need our help, in a few weeks the plan will begin.” J’onn said.
He was right, Kal-El and the group needed them. They were planing to expose Maxwell and his associate Morgan Edge. The trip to the Luthor farm would take too much time.
But Kara also knew she needed to help Lena, she just felt in her heart. The main reason she joined the group was for helping people. If she refused to help this woman, she would be betraying her own promises and her own instincts.
“I now what we need to do.” Kara said and then she looked Lena right in her green eyes. “But you will need to help us.”
All of them were staring Kara. Maggie, Alex and J’onn knew she would not refuse to help Lena. But they also knew how reckless Kara was.
“You will give the information to them. And then I will take you to your brother. They will be able to return to the group in time, with some good information I hope, and you will be safe in your lovely farm.”
Kara knew this was the only option. Of course she wasn’t so thrilled about getting far away from everyone she knew just to take this girl to a farm. But she knew she had to do it. And she realized that Lena also knew this was her only option.
“How can I know I can trust you?” The brunette with green eyes asked.
“I guess you will just have to”. Kara gave her a small smile.
Kara started doubting her plan. Maybe she didn’t even have information? Maybe this was Maxwell’s plan?
It was a relief when she saw Lena taking a piece of paper from her pocket.
“Here.” She gave it to Alex. “ It’s a contract Maxwell signed with Morgan Edge. They are going to start a business of trafficking people.” Lena said and Alex looked shocked when she red the paper.
“Guys, this is all the proof we need, this will change everything.” Alex smiled. “We need to take this to the group.”
All of them were relieved. Maggie hugged Alex. And J’onn was smiling too. They had been looking for something like this for years, and they finally found it.
Kara looked at the sky. She looked at the moon. It was probably after midnight. She couldn’t help to feel thankful. The last months had been hard, they had lost a lot of members of the group. And people were losing hope. But this could change everything.
She looked at Lena and realized the woman was probably very tired.
“I almost thought you didn’t had any information.”
“I keep my promises, I really hope you do too.” Lena answered. Looking exhausted but still confident.
Kara nodded. “I sure will. I’m Kara by the way. You should get some rest. Tomorrow we will start our journey.” She gave Lena a blink and then went to talk to Alex.
“Kara, are you sure about this? It will take a lot of days to get there. And It will be dangerous.” Alex told her giving her a concerned look.
“Yeah, I know. But she gave us a really good information, now It’s our turn to help her.”
“Just please, promise me you will be careful.” Alex hugged her.
“I will I promise.” Kara said holding tears in her eyes. “I will miss you”.
“We should get some rest. We need to leave in the morning.” Kara nodded and then they went to their sleeping bags.

Kara was the first one to wake up. She went to the fire pit and made some coffee. She needed to plan her next moves. So she opened a map of the country. She was analyzing everything when she heard Maggie and Alex sitting next to her.
“We should pack everything. As soon as we leave the better.” Alex said and Maggie nodded.
“I will wake up the Luthor and her friend” Maggie said while walking towards Lena and Jack.
Kara got up and started packing her things. J’onn woke up and was doing the same thing.
“Good morning. I suppose we need to leave soon?” Lena asked Kara.
“Yeah, but we will need to make a few stops before beginning our trip.”
Lena nodded. “I spoke with Jack and we were wondering If he could go to the group you talk about. I don’t believe he would be safe anywhere else.”
“I suppose this is the best, he can come with me, J’onn and Alex.” Maggie said and Lena gave her a relieved smile.
They finished packing everything. It was time to leave. Lena already said goodbye to Jack, she was waiting for Kara near the blonde’s horse.
Kara hugged Maggie, J’onn and Alex.
“Please be careful. ”They all nodded. “See you guys soon!”
Kara then mounted her horse and helped Lena sit behind her. She gave Alex a last look and soon they were galloping far away from the swamp.
“So, we need to go to Valentine first. We need a another horse. Krypto can’t carry both of us for so long.” Kara explained. “And we need to get you some new clothes. A dress like the one you are wearing isn’t really appropriate for a horse trip.
“Yeah, you are right. But are you sure is safe for us to go there? I mean there is a chance Maxwell’s men will be there.” Lena said with worry in her voice.
“Trust me, I know what I’m doing.” Kara said and asked her dark horse to go faster.

They rode through a forest for the most of the time. The weather was good. After some time they finally got to a road and could see the small town they were looking for.
The town was very small, with only one general store, one salloon, one doctor’s office, one butcher, one sheriff’s station and a horse stable.
They didn’t ride through the main road, instead they went behind the general store, where almost no one could see them.
“Come on.” Kara dismounted her horse and helped Lena do the same.
Kara then knocked on the backdoor of the store. They waited a little and soon a blonde woman showed up opening the door.
“Kiera!” She hugged Kara. “How long has it been? I thought you said you would keep contact.
“I know , but It’s been hard.” Kara said and know Cat was looking at Lena. “We need your help.”
“Ok, get in.” The woman entered the store followed by Kara and Lena. “I’m Cat Grant and welcome to my store.” The woman told Lena.
“I’m Lena Luthor. Nice to meet you.” Lena then shaked Cat’s hand.
Cat went to the main door and locked it. She turn the sign that said open to now closed. She knew Kara well enough to know that whatever she was doing was not a safe thing.
“What do you need?” Cat asked them.
“Well, we are trying to get to the Luthor Farm. So we need some provisions. And please some clothes to Lena.”
“I can pay for the things.” Lena said showing a bag of gold.
“That won’t be necessary, I own a lot to Kiera. I’m happy to help.” Cat said and Lena nodded.
“Okay, you two get everything set. I’m going to the stable to buy a horse.” Kara said and Lena gave her a strange look. “It’s fine, you can trust her.” Then Kara walked to the door.
They could trust Cat. Kara actually had saved her. She was one of the first people Kara had saved. She remembers It as It was yesterday. Cat’s wagon was been robbed and when Kara arrived at the location, the robber was about to shoot Cat. This was also Kara’s first kill. And she would never forget the look in the man’s eyes when she took his life.
Kara put her hat and walked through the town. She passed some people without saying anything. She saw some kids playing with a dog. And then she stopped in front of a sign. It was a missing sign. With Lena’s face and an offer of a really big reward.
Shit! Kara thought. With a reward this big, almost every bounty hunter would be after Lena. The best bounty hunters would be trying to find her. So this meant they would need to be a lot more discreet than she imagined.
Kara kept walking. And now she was in front of the stable. She went to the field where the horses were. She saw a chestnut neighing, a big dark brown mare and a white gelding. She observed the physical structure of each horse and soon
she knew which horse she wanted to buy. She went in the stables and a man showed up to talk with her.
“Hello, miss. What do you need?”
“I want to buy the white horse there.” She said and pointed to the horse in the field. “I also need all the tack and some horse food too.”
“Okay, I will get him and everything you need.”
The man went to the field and got the horse, he brushed and saddle him. Kara was relieved Lena actually had a bag of gold, because she spent almost all her money in this horse.
Kara went back to Cat’s store pulling the new horse. She tied him with Krypto and knocked on the door. Soon Cat opened it for her.
“Everything is ready.” Cat said.
Kara was about to say something when she saw Lena. The brunette was now wearing black pants, a white long sleeve shirt, a black vest and her hair was braided. She was stunning. Kara realized how beautiful this woman really was. Her eyes were greener than every emerald and her hair was darker than the darkest night. Kara was definitely in the middle of a gay panic when she heard Lena speaking with her.
“You see something you like?” Lena asked her, which made her gay panic even worse. And Kara’s face got red while Cat and Lena laughed.
“We need to go, come on” Kara said while walking away. “Thank you for everything, Cat.”
“Yeah, thank you. I will be forever grateful.” Lena also said.
“Please, be safe. Take care of each other. And Kiera, I hope to hear about you soon.”Cat gave them both a hug and walked back to her store.
“So this is your new horse. I hope you like him.” Kara pointed to the white gelding eating grass.
“Wow, he is beautiful. But It must have cost a fortune.” Lena walked close to the horse and petted him. “I promise I’ll pay you back.”
“Don’t worry, consider it as a gift.” Kara gave Lena a smile and started packing all the things Cat gave to them. “You should choose a name for him.”
Lena looked at the horse’s eyes. “I guess I’m going to call him Storm.”
“It’s a good name.” Kara smile and was about to ride Krypto when she heard a gun shot. Lena immediately looked to her with a scared look. “Get on your horse.” Kara said and Lena followed her order.
Kara went to try to see what was happening. She walked near some trees, trying to not be seen. In the middle of the main road there was a group of men. They’re all using the same symbol in their chests. The Maxwell Lord symbol.
“Shit! We need to go.” She was about to return to her horse when she heard Lena’s scream.
