Chapter Text

For Miya Atsumu, a college student who recently turned 20, his life consists of going to class, doing his part-time work as Lil Tykes Volleyball Class coach and thus sustaining his life by using the money for his twin brother to provide him food so that they both could continue living in the vast city of Tokyo.

He’d sooner be running over by a truck than admitting that if it wasn’t for his little brother near chef-like skills, he would have just lived of by ramen and fast food and find himself in the hospital before he could graduate and become an athlete. But having a brother also means that the responsibility of buying the ingredients falls on him.

He might not know how to cook but after years of helping his mother and brother to buy the ingredients, he is proud to admit that he knows the difference between the fishes.

But he still thinks that it’s ridiculous for his brother to make him walk back to the supermarket just because he forgot the carrots.

Seriously, it’s just the bunny diet! The curry would be just fine without it!

Though ever since becoming a culinary student, it seems that Osamu has become even fussier with his cooking. Hell, he’s even fussier than their mother and that’s saying something!

Grumbling to himself, he whips out his phone to inform his brother that he has his precious carrots with him and he’s going home. Just as he finishes typing out a word that their mother wouldn’t approve, his eyes caught sight of a movement in the alley.

Before leaving for Tokyo, their father had warned them that Tokyo is filled with weirdos and creeps. Their father could have gone on for hours before their mother karate chops his head and force him to go buy a cake for her.

He was about to break into a sprint before he hears a whine that sounds like… a cat?

Atsumu may not seems like it, but he does have a soft spot for animals. Young animals in particular and by the sounds of it, it seems that the cat is in distress.

Saying a short prayer in his head just in case it was a creep disguising as a cat, Atsumu wearily went to the alley, keeping his eyes on the moving lump that seems way too big to be a cat or even a kitten.

Maybe he should have listened to his father after all no matter how paranoid that man is.

“Um… hello?”

The lump startled and hurriedly scoots away from Atsumu, getting closer to the sunlight and that’s when Atsumu has a good look at it.

A cat hybrid.

Atsumu had heard of them and he also know that they are very rare. Even in Tokyo they could only be seen at the exclusive pet shop. He doesn’t know where it came from, some said from some sort of experiment to create an intelligent pet or a fantasy of some crazy genius (given how ‘creative’ people can be, this isn’t so far off). He thought that he would never come across these species given that he’s just a normal college student from a normal household.

And yet here, right in front of him is a boy with dark cat ears and tail that stood up in alarm, hissing and glaring at him.

The boy is wearing black shorts and a grey shirt that seems to soak in soot. The boy’s pale face is dirtied though it doesn’t distract him from his fierce blue eyes.

He was absolutely beautiful.

“Hey there, kitty…”

The hybrid’s beautiful squints at him suspiciously and scoots farther from him. Atsumu immediately stops moving and look at his plastic bag.

Does hybrid eat carrots?

Taking a leap of faith, Atsumu took a carrot and gently shows the carrot to the cat hybrid, “Hey, are you hungry, kitty?”

The carrot seems to attract the hybrid’s attention as his ears perks up and his eyes widen, the hostility lessen slightly. Atsumu smiles and slowly moves closer, “Here, you can have this carrot.”

He still seems suspicious and Atsumu carefully placed the carrot on a clean surface near the hybrid and moves away slightly from him, letting the hybrid to move carefully and sniffs the carrot. He spares one last glance at Atsumu before he grabs the carrot with his hands and began eating the carrot with such vigour that it saddens him a little to see the cat being so hungry. Atsumu could see the hybrid’s little fangs while eating and he couldn’t help but be amazed by the hybrid until he finishes the carrot, staring at Atsumu with his large blue eyes.

“Do you want more? I have another one,” Atsumu held out another carrot and he chuckles as the boy’s eyes sparkles. This time, Atsumu coos as the hybrid took the carrot directly from him, eating the carrot with the same vigour as just now.

“Do you have a name?”

The hybrid froze the same time Atsumu did.

Can hybrid even talk? Can he even understand what Atsumu is saying?”

“…To…”

“Hm?”

Atsumu waits patiently as the boy hesitates before he speaks again in a clearer voice, “Kageyama… Tobio…”

Atsumu smiles softly as he nodded, “Nice to meet you, Tobio-kun.”

Tobio continues eating the carrot and Atsumu’s hand itches before he reaches his hand to Tobio’s head, “You know, I always wonder what hybrid feels like—”

Tobio’s eyes widen and for a second, Atsumu could see his life flashes before his eyes.

When his father warned him of weirdos and creeps, he didn’t remind him of a cute cat hybrid with claws that stings like talons.

For Miya Osamu, a college student who recently turned 20, his life consists of going to class, cooking for his brother and himself and uses the little allowance he receives for some konbini treats.

Never in his twenty years of life would he expect to see his brother smiling so smugly with wounds on his face and a cat hybrid who is glaring darkly behind him.

A freaking real-life cat hybrid.

“And so, this is Tobio-kun! And from now on, he will be living with us!”

Osamu blinks his eyes before he can feel his temper rising up.

“Hah!?”

Notes:

Hi there.
Since we have a severe lack of MiyaKageMiya, AtsuKage and Osakage, I decided to do a little slice-of-life story inspired by Nukoduke!
For now, I planned for it to be around a thousand words and a companion comic but we'll see how it goes in the future :3
Thank you for reading!
