They had never left the asset out of cryo freeze this long, nor gone half as long without wiping It.
Rumlow was on edge, like buzzing in his ears from a distance and static curling under his skin, prickling just below the surface - a warning to keep him on edge, like he should be ready for a fight, but there wasn't one to fight.
He was the designated handler of the asset.
Rumlow would command it and give It a familiar face in times of brief awareness when It got out from under the fog HYDRA had put it under, to keep It complicit.
Rumlow despised being in charge of HYDRA’s prized pet.
Especially now as It was always between being dead and a walking corpse with its mind coming back together in fragmented pieces. At least orders and blow jobs were effective at controlling a soldier.
The soldier has suffered a horrible injury and hasn't been healing up, so after leaving the asset out of cryotech, getting nowhere with it, Rumlow is forced to face off with a mostly conscious and aware Bucky Barnes - who trusts the strike commander to an extent.
Though he asks too many questions and Rumlow finds a creative way to shut that down.Series
