Dark Sky Sunrise

Summary:

There would never be true sunrise here, merely a lightening, but always at dawn Legolas watched the horizon.

Work Text:

It was morning. Legolas stood alone on his balcony high above the barren, rocky landscape below. To the east the sky had begun to lighten, turning the thick clouds overhead from black to a dreary dark grey. There would never be true sunrise here, merely a lightening, but always at dawn Legolas watched the horizon.

The gloom did not lift, and the unseen sun had risen above the mountains. With a sigh Legolas turned away and walked slowly back into his bedchamber.

Mairon was waiting for him, his graceful form reclined on an elegant red velvet divan. "Good morning, my pet," he purred, the fingers of his left hand idly tracing the gold details of the divan.

Legolas drew in a sharp breath, startled. "Good morning."

"Don't worry, I'm not here to reprimand you." Mairon scoffed, sitting upright. "Am I not permitted to see my lover?"

A nervous half-smile played on Legolas's lips. "My apologies, I was simply not expecting you." He moved over to the Maia's side and touched his hand. "It is good to see you."

"Yes." Mairon smirked as he reached out and played with a lock of Legolas's pale hair. "I wish for you to be with me today." His unreadable, fiery eyes bored into the elf's. "It is fitting for you to know how I…" he paused. "Conduct my court, as it were." He placed a finger beneath Legolas's chin, tilting his face upward.

"I use that term so you can understand." Mairon's voice trailed off into a murmur as he kissed Legolas lightly.

Legolas leaned into the embrace with a sigh, wrapping his arms around Mairon. His eyes had fluttered shut, and he made a small sound deep in his throat as he deepened the kiss.

Mairon pulled away with a quiet laugh. "So needy, my pet…"

Legolas flushed, quickly returning his arms to his sides. "No, I-"

Mairon cut him off. "We will have time for that later. Make ready and come with me." His tone was now curt and impatient. "I'll be waiting." The door closed silently behind him.

Legolas threw one last glance out at the horizon, half-veiled in shadow. A look of intense longing passed over his face before he turned away, fiddling absently with the delicate jeweled ring on his finger. As he did, anguish was replaced by the usual contentment.

Legolas touched a fingertip to his lips where Mairon had left his burning kiss, and smiled.
