Chapter Text
Sapnap was splayed out over the couch in the living room. It looked kind of awkward, as it definitely wasn’t big enough for him to lay down on, so his legs hung off the edge. He was currently whining about his lack of time management skill.
“I have two, are you listening? TWO assignments I need to get done before Friday. That’s only like… four days. How am I gon-” he managed to get out before Dream cut him off with a sigh. “You have three days Sappity-Nappity,” the nickname earned him a huff from the couch. “It’s Wednesday you know?”
A large bump could be heard, before Dream saw the head of a boy, now currently residing on the floor, peeking over the couch. “IT'S WEDNESDAY? When did it suddenly turn Wednesday? I swear it was Tuesday this morning.” Sapnap furrowed his brows before his eyes widened in realisation.
“Oh shit, oh shit, oh fuck, I have a date with Karl in like…” he quickly checked the time on his phone “minus 10 minutes, oh fuck” he managed to get out before scrambling to get off the ground.
“GOOD TALK GOOD TALK” Dream could hear Sapnap yell as he quickly threw his jacket on and ran out of the door. Dream couldn’t help but let out a quiet chuckle at his friend’s antics. It seemed like he only got more chaotic as time passed.
To be honest, even though Sapnap was quite distracting he could also be used as a good excuse. Dream often found himself reasoning that he only didn’t work because Sapnap was distracting him. He sighed as he put his computer in a bag and threw a maroon sweater on. He should try to get some work done now, although he really didn’t feel any motivation towards it.
It was beginning to get colder as autumn had just started. Even though Dream loved the summer he couldn’t help but feel a certain softness for the season that had just started. He adored the yellow and orange leaves painting the skyline with warm colours and the hot drinks that would always coat the inside of his throat and make him feel all snuggly and warm.
And it was sweater weather. Dream loved sweaters, but he guessed there also was a quiet symbolism to that.
He decided to go down to the local coffee shop before heading to the campus library. Hopefully, he could get some work done there without all the disturbances.
As Dream opened the door he heard a chime from the bell above the door ringing out in the shop. He couldn’t help but grin as he saw Niki look up from the till and he received a soft smile as well as a little wave.
There were no other customers in line so he went right up to her.
“So, what can I get for you today Dream?” Niki smiled as she grabbed a large cup from behind the counter. No matter what drink Dream ordered, he always got a large.
What can you say? He’s a thirsty boi.
Dream pondered a bit, looking up at the chalkboard over the register, where the menu was displayed, before answering. “I think I’m just going to get a chai latte this time. I already drank three cups of coffee today, my body definitly needs a caffeine break.” Yeah, there also was a bit of caffeine in the chai latte, but no one had to know that.
Niki let out a quiet chuckle as she wrote his name on the cup and declared that it would be “coming right up!” They continued chatting while she made his tea.
Dream couldn’t help but hold Niki at the place of his favourite barista. Sure, he also loved when Karl was working and they got on well, but Niki had this calmness and emphatic energy radiating off of her.
She was quite small and she had pulled her hair up in a messy bun. It was a faded pink with strands of blonde. Once she had told the story about how her and her roommate had bought the wrong dye and almost coloured it neon orange. Luckily, they noticed before putting the dye in.
Dream couldn’t help but regard her as a sister. When he came into the shop before class, she would idly chat about everything and nothing at the same time, energy oozing out and spreading smiles among everyone in the little shop. He saw a little sister with too much energy and enthusiasm.
When he came in hungover with a pounding headache she would take one look at him before handing him a black coffee with a scone, and then he felt like he had the worlds best bigger sister.
Their dynamic was lovely, how they cheered each other up and looked out for each other. Over time he had gotten quite good at reading her, and that was why Dream noticed her sudden change in behaviour as soon as the bell above the door chimed again. A rather good looking, tall brunette walked into the shop. He was sporting a mustard yellow sweater with his sleeves rolled up above his elbows. His hair was rather curly and his eyes had a deep chocolate brown colour. Dream observed him a bit before a name popped into his head. Wilbur, a foreign exchange student from England. He was roommates with George, one of Dream and Sapnaps rather good friends.
He couldn’t help but smirk as he let out a loud ahem , that made Niki jump a bit. She looked over at him before blushing and brushing the crumbs off her apron, averting her eyes to the floor.
Niki handed him his large tea, and Dream grabbed it, showing an extra 5 dollars in the tip jar. “So Niki, good luck on your… human studies assignment” he grinned as he winked at her and walked out the door. Her cheeks were tinted a soft red as she stared daggers at him and he couldn’t help but laugh. Wilbur just looked confused from Niki to Dream and back again before he shrugged.
On his way to the library, Dream noticed a small smiley face beside his name on the cup and he felt a sudden flare of joy rising in his chest.
As he got into the library he spotted a familiar pink haired person. The second one he knew. A slight grin spread across his face as he found a new excuse to abandon his work. He quickly walked over to the corner of the library where the pink-haired man was sitting.
“Technooo,” Dream whined as he spread himself across the table currently occupied by the man.
“I’m bored”. Blue eyes filled with annoyance met his. A window beside their corner provided an easy access for the afternoon suns rays, which made Techno’s hair glimmer in the light. Opposed to Niki’s, Techno’s hair was dyed a solid bubblegum pink with no streaks or even roots deviating from the colour. It had to be a recent dye.
“Then why,” Techno sighed “did you come to the library? I’m pretty sure it’s not mean to be especially entertaining.” His blue eyes studied Dreams face before returning to his books on the table. Dream couldn’t help but hold his breath when Techno’s eyes shone like that. It honestly wasn’t fair.
“You know, I was gonna study,” Dream slowly explained, taking a sip of his tea. “But then I saw you here and got a much better idea!”.
“Which would be annoying me and keeping me from doing anything productive?” Techno sighed, but Dream swore he could hear a smile in Techno’s voice. Although he couldn’t be sure, as Techno kept looking down in his books, sometimes writing something down on his computer.
His small grin grew bigger as he exclaimed “Yes! God, we are so in sync. We must be soulmates or something.”
That earned him a deadpanned stare and a “Dream, I have to get a 20-page essay done. Get lost.”
“Hmmmm” Dream hummed as he pretended to consider it. “You know, I don’t think I will. Come on, I’m bored let’s go do something.”
“Dream, no.” Techno reprimanded which made the taller boy pout.
Techno stood up from the table, collected some of the books in his arms and walked over to a nearby bookshelf. He was wearing a white button-up, and Dream couldn’t help but notice the top buttons had come undone. Or maybe Techno had done it on purpose?
Either way, Dream couldn’t help but thank the sun god, for bathing his… friend ? in such pretty lighting.
The sleeves of his button-up were rolled up like Wilburs had been and he noticed Techno had quite muscular arms.
Dream quickly reached for Techno’s computer as he made sure that all his documents were saved before closing it and putting it in his bag with his own. Then he took his last sip of tea before pushing his chair backwards and walking up to Techno.
“I have officially taken your computer hostage, and now you have to go do something with me.” Dream grinned as Techno sighed deeply.
“Dream, give me my computer back.” The pinkette tried to reach out for Dreams bag but Dream was too quick and easily avoided the blatant try to get his computer back.
“Mmm, not how this works” Dream hummed as he walked towards Techno trapping him in a corner. They were standing quite close, as Dream tried to block all escape routes.
Techno raised his eyes to look at the taller boy, defiance shining out of his eyes as he crossed his arms and leaned into the corner. “I’m not put into this world to please you or keep you entertained, you know.”
“Yeah, I’m not so sure about that.” Dream chuckled as he grabbed Techno’s wrist and pulled him out of the library. If Techno had really tried to get away, Dream would have let go of his grip, but he could tell Techno wasn’t quite as opposed to this arrangement as he led on. After all, he was a mean fighter, and probably stronger than Dream if put to the test. He could easily get his wrist out of Dream’s grasp if he wanted.
“You know, you probably deserve a break anyways. If I know you at all, then you have already been sitting in this library for hours.”
Techno just hummed, as he put his jacket on. There was a slight pause in the conversation as they got out of the library. He began speaking again as Dream let go of his wrist. “You know, you have to carry my computer the whole way now.”
“You know I’d do anything for you.” Dream responded with a smirk and a wink. Techno just rolled his eyes.
“Except for letting me work.”
“Yeah, except for that.”
