Work Text:

Name:  Min Yoongi

Alias:  Suga

Origin:  Crash landed in a spaceship from his dead home planet, Cypher.

Abilities:  flight, super strength, x-ray vision, heat vision, & durability.

Weakness:  Cypherite; drains his powers, if kept in the presence of this crystal for too long it could prove to be life threatening.

Name:  Jung Hoseok

Alias:  J-hope

Origin:  Thrown into a vat of radioactive waste by his parents to stimulate his gene mutation, parents are a notorious supervillain team.

Abilities:  intangibility, invisibility, flight, omni-absorption (the power to absorb anything and everything without limit and utilize it in some way), omni-expulsion (the power to expel everything and anything without limit and erase it in some way).

Weakness:  himself.

If someone asked Hoseok what he wanted to be doing in five years, he would’ve said he wanted to be a dancer. He would’ve said how he had been dancing all his life to prepare him for the potential of creating choreographies good enough for idols to perform. He would’ve said that dance was the only thing that helped him through all the tough times in his life. You know, like how his parents pushed him into a vat of radioactive waste so he would develop superpowers.

You know, the usual stressors in your life.

It’s safe to say Hoseok is not a dancer at the moment. After being lovingly tossed into the radioactive waste, Hoseok realized that his dream of becoming a famous choreographer was tarnished. He realized after his superpowers presented that his parents had something else in store for him. His parents expected so much more of Hoseok as he learned to harness his powers. His parents expected him to join the family business.

They wanted him to be a supervillain.

Now, the most dangerous thing Hoseok does in his life is sleep with his phone on silent so you can imagine how being told he’s going to learn to be a supervillain must have surprised him.

At first, he tried to argue with his parents. He expressed to them how he had no desire to follow in his parents’ footsteps. He tried to tell them how he would only disappoint them in the end because he didn’t want to be like them, but his parents wouldn’t take no for an answer.

They took Hoseok under their wing and trained him to control his superpowers. Hoseok did not have the same powers as his parents. Hoseok did not have the gene that carried a mutation to give him superpowers, and he was perfectly fine with that. He was supposed to have a normal life, but he felt as though it was taken away from him. Hoseok felt like no matter what he was doing he was always disappointing his parents.

He didn’t have telekinesis or telepathy like his parents. He couldn’t move objects or people with the power of his mind, nor would he get inside someone’s head.

Instead, Hoseok could turn invisible and intangible, not to mention he could fly, too. It was rare to have more than two superpowers, but Hoseok had five all because of what his parents tenderly yeeted his ass into radioactive waste.

Hoseok was a lot stronger than people gave him credit for. He blamed it on his small stature and curvy physique. Everyone took one good look at him and all they could see is a pretty face with an hourglass figure.

Everyone doubted him so they never would’ve realized he had the unique ability to not only absorb anything without limit but also expel that power from his body in a deadly attack. Hoseok preferred not to use that power, as it had the capability to destroy an entire country if he chose to release all the energy he had been storing the past five years.

He tried to release the energy he had stored in small quantities. When he was engaging in hand-to-hand combat he would discharge energy into punches to give the illusion he had super strength. The only problem with Hoseok’s abilities was that there was no limit to how much energy he could store, thus making it hard to tell how much he had left to expel.

He was twenty-five years old now and his parents were sending him off on his first mission alone as a supervillain. He dawned an all-black combat uniform, looking more like a spy than a supervillain but he wasn’t about to argue with his parents. He didn’t want to do this, but he didn’t feel like he had a choice. He hoped that if he could make his parents proud one time then maybe he could escape this lifestyle. He didn’t want to be a criminal. He didn’t want to hurt anybody. All he wanted to do was dance, but that was no longer in the cards for him.

Hoseok slapped a black mask over his eyes, because that definitely hid his identity to only have his eyes hidden. He sighed as he flew towards the wealthiest company in Seoul and phased through the walls until he found what he was looking for, the CEO.

Hoseok’s mission was to steal the bank account information for the CEO so he could transfer his money to his parents. Hoseok’s eyes widened when he saw the CEO was cowering in fear at his desk.

“It’s a ghost! Be gone, spirit!”

“Ghost?! Where?!”

Hoseok quickly looked around, trying to find the ghost in the room. The little brunette ran to the CEO and hid behind him. Hoseok put his hands on the CEO’s shoulders and peeked around the other male, his eyes flickering from one side of the room to the other.

Both males were trembling, but for different reasons. While Hoseok was genuinely terrified at the prospect of a ghost being in the room, the CEO was scared that the brunette was going to hurt him.

“Where did you see the ghost?”

You’re the ghost!”

“I can’t be the ghost! I’m not dead!”

“You came through the wall!”

“Oh… oh, yeah, I did, didn’t I?”

Hoseok released the man and rubbed a hand against the back of his neck sheepishly, “Yeah, sorry about scaring you like that. I hope you don’t mind if I steal your bank account information real quick.”

The CEO turned around and stared the brunette up and down suspiciously. Clearly, he had never been in the presence of a supervillain that was so… polite.

The man had been threatened by supervillains before but never had he experienced something like this before. Never had he met a supervillain that apologized to him, nor had a supervillain been kind in regard to their evil plan for him.

“Uh, I do mind.”

“Oh, gosh, then I’m so sorry!”

“Are… are you apologizing?”

“Yes because I’m sorry for doing this.”

Before the other man could ask what he meant, Hoseok was phasing through his body to hack into his computer.

Hoseok muttered under his breath, “And he’s going to throw up in three, two, one-“

Hoseok’s timer was on point because the man immediately collapsed onto his hands and knees and started to vomit. Hoseok had phased through countless people and each of them felt so disturbed at the thought of another person going through them that they would throw up.

The brunette had gotten used to the feeling so he paid the man no mind, as long as he didn’t throw up on his black combat boots. Those were new and he refused to let the man ruin them. He might be a newfound supervillain, but he was a long-time fashionista.

The brunette was so focused on hacking into the man’s bank account that he didn’t notice the CEO pressing an emergency button on his phone. Hoseok had begun to hum a tune as he worked, which unknowingly intimidated the CEO because he had only known villains to hum when they were plotting something truly diabolical.

Hoseok was only humming because he heard a song on the radio and he liked it. He truly had no evil ulterior motives. He said what he had to do and he was going to do it, whether he liked it or not.

As soon as Hoseok finished, he came crashing in.

Hoseok braced himself when he heard the window shatter. He gasped when he saw the man who had flown into the room. It was none other than Seoul’s most decorated superhero, Suga.

Hoseok had heard of Suga, hell, everyone knew about him because he came crash landing in a damn space ship with a backstory like Superman, to which Hoseok thought was unoriginal but to each their own superhero origin story.

Hoseok had only heard and read about Suga, he had never encountered the man in his life. He knew that Suga possessed similar abilities to Superman, such as super strength, flight, x-ray, and heat ray vision.

Of course, Suga possessed the durability to make bullets bounce off of his ripped chest, but Hoseok didn’t want to keep thinking about that man’s muscular chest that he desperately wanted to rub his hands all over for his own mental care. Hoseok had to ignore the fact that he was now standing in the same room as the superhero he idolized.

“What do you think you’re doing?!”

“I, uh… look over there! A distraction!”

The little brunette pointed to the other side of the room to where nothing was. Hoseok and Suga stared at each other. Hoseok cursed under his breath as he failed to distract the other male while Suga cocked an eyebrow, as if he couldn’t believe someone would actually try the oldest trick in the book on him. He might be an alien, but he was not easily fooled.

“I’m going to enjoy beating your ass.”

“Can I call you “daddy” while you do it?”

Hoseok instantly covered his mouth when he realized he had said those words out loud. Suga’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. It was while Hoseok was pacing around the room telling himself he needed to stop talking that Suga started to observe his foe.

Suga smirked, even in that uniform he could tell that Hoseok had a pretty little waist that was begging for a pair of strong arms to wrap around it. Hell, even Hoseok’s neck was pretty and he wanted to put a hand on that throat.

Suga shook his head, trying to force these naughty thoughts out of his head. He had to be serious right now, but he found that so hard to do that when all he could focus on were those chocolate-colored eyes and that little lip mole that was almost unnoticeable to the eye unless one stared at it long enough.

Suga wondered what shape Hoseok’s lips made when he smiled, and that’s when he knew he was fucked. He needed to stop this and the only way to do that was to capture Hoseok and send him away to jail so he would never have to be captivated by him again.

“Suga, I think we got off on the wrong foot.”

“You think?”

“Do you think we could call a truce?”

“A truce?!”

Suga flew towards Hoseok, closing the distance between them as he hissed, “I got a call that a supervillain is hacking into this man’s bank account to steal his information and I intend to beat the fuck out of you and bring you to justice. Superheroes and supervillains don’t do truces.”

“They… they don’t?”

“We don’t.”

Hoseok didn’t like that. He didn’t like how Suga was lumping him into the supervillain category. It left a sour taste in his mouth and he wasn’t even the one who said those words.

He looked down, trying to avoid those stern brown eyes that refused to see him as anything more than a villain. He felt tears sting at his eyes but he blinked them away. He didn’t want to cry in front of a superhero, let alone Suga.

“Now, stay still and let me bring you to jail.”

Hoseok gasped as he heard those words. He looked up just in time to see Suga trying to grab him, only to stumble forward when his arms phased through the brunette.

Hoseok took a fearful step back.

In no way was he prepared to take on Suga in battle. He was not mentally prepared for something like this. He was trained in hand-to-hand combat but he had only battled against his parents. He had never had to put his combat skills or his powers to use on a well-known superhero.

“Please, I don’t want to do this.”

“You should’ve thought about that before did this!”

Suga flew at Hoseok, making a surprised noise when he phased through the brunette again. Suga looked down and felt his body, trying to see if there was something wrong with him. He turned around and saw that Hoseok was breathing heavily as he faced him.

It seemed that the villain was telling the truth when he said that he didn’t want to do this. He looked terrified. The look in those frightened chocolate orbs caused pain to rip through Suga’s chest, but he could not stop his attack. Hoseok had committed a crime and Suga could not spare him, no matter how beautiful or afraid he looked.

Suga flew over to Hoseok and cranked an arm back. Hoseok winced as he saw the large fist flying at his face. For added measure, the brunette covered his face with his hands to shield himself from the blow that never made contact.

Suga fought back the urge to vomit when his fist went through Hoseok’s head. He yanked his hand back and stared at the shaking male in awe. Suga had never fought someone like this before so he was starting to wonder if he could be able to do damage like he hoped.

“What the hell-“

“Please, if you let me go I’ll disappear.”

“I’ve never let a villain go before,” Suga’s eyes started to turn red as he activated his heat ray vision, “and I don’t plan on starting to now. You’re not getting away from me!”

Hoseok cried out in fear as Suga shot heat rays at him, which were only successful in going through the brunette and scorching holes through the wall behind them. Once Suga could see that his heat ray vision wasn’t working he stopped.

His jaw dropped when Hoseok felt his body over where the rays tried to vaporize him, but there wasn’t a scratch on him. Suga didn’t know what he was going to be able to do to bring Hoseok in if he couldn’t touch him.

“Are… are you going to try something else?”

Those words didn’t sound sarcastic, instead they sounded shy. Suga wanted to believe that Hoseok was making fun of him but his voice was so shaky. He was actually afraid that one of Suga’s attacks was going to hurt him, despite knowing that it wouldn’t happen. Suga couldn’t understand why Hoseok would stay and ask if he was going to try to attack him in another way.

Suga started thinking through their encounter. Hoseok didn’t try to engage in the usual banter heroes and villains partake in. He seemed unsure of himself, as if this was the first time in his life that he had done something remotely bad. Hoseok had tried to establish a truce with him. He seriously wanted to talk this through so that they could both walk away peacefully.

All Suga had known before this encounter was that he had to beat the shit out of villains before he could take them into custody. Hoseok didn’t want to fight. He looked like he didn’t even want to be here.

“C-Can I leave now?”

“Wh-What?”

“We’re done here, right? I can leave, can’t I?”

“Are… are you fucking serious right now?!”

“You’re fucking different,” Suga flew towards Hoseok until they were a mere foot apart, “you can’t just waltz your way in here, wreak havoc, steal information, and then expect to just walk away freely! You’re a criminal, a villain! You don’t get to leave and have whatever happy ending you think you get!”

“But-“

“You’re a villain!”

“Yeah, but-“

“People like you,” Suga’s eyes were burning holes into Hoseok without the need for his heat ray vision, “villains like you don’t deserve to be happy. You’re thorn in society’s side and that’s all you’ll ever be. You’ll never be more than that... you'll never be more than a fucking villain.”

Suga didn’t understand why he wanted to apologize after he said those harsh words. He didn’t understand why Hoseok had tears welling in his eyes. Didn’t he know how being a villain worked? Villains do bad things, they wreak havoc, and they instill fear into the hearts of the innocent people they torture.

Villains don’t get happy endings.

They get defeated by the heroes and they spend the rest of their lives behind bars for their treachery, or at least until they find a way to break out of jail. Hoseok was a villain so he should know how this goes.

He should know.

Hoseok didn’t understand why Suga’s words hurt him so much. Maybe it was because there was still a small part of him that believed a wannabe villain like him could have a happy ending. Maybe it was because he still believed that there was more to him than this, than being the bad guy. Maybe it was because he had once looked up to Suga and now here he was being told by the man he idolized that all of his dreams would always be out of reach. Maybe it was because yet another person was telling him who he was supposed to be and how his life was supposed to go. Maybe it’s because his hero had basically told him that he’s a drain on the people around him and that he could never be more than what he was now.

“You don’t know me.”

This was the first time Hoseok’s voice sounded firm, unbreakable. Hoseok stepped back and glared at Suga, “You don’t know a thing about me so who are you to make judgments on who I’m supposed to be? You superheroes think you’re so self-righteous, don’t you? You all think you get to decide other people’s destiny, but you can’t… you can’t decide mine.”

“I’m not perfect, but neither are you,” Hoseok shook his head, tears falling down his cheeks and splashing onto the ground, “you don’t know me. You don’t know why I’m doing this but since I’m doing it that means I’m bad, right? I’m not… I’m not bad… I know I’m not.”

Hoseok continued to back up until he made contact with the wall. Suga was slowly flying towards him, looking like he was caught between wanting to apologize and wanting to hold the smaller male.

Suga reached out a hand to try to touch him, but that was a wrong move to make considering that Hoseok was not fond of him at the moment. Hoseok’s eyes narrowed as he punched Suga, expelling energy he had stored in the process so that his blow would send him into the wall.

Suga groaned in pain. Shit, someone had actually hurt him? He couldn’t remember the last time someone struck him and it hurt. He was so used to people trying to hit him, only to find themselves walking away with broken hands.

He fell out of the wall, coughing as he rubbed his chest with one of his hands. He looked up from the ground, shocked to find that Hoseok was staring at his hand as if he didn’t know the power packed behind his attack. Suga attempted to get up but was only successful in getting onto his knees.

“Who… who the hell are you?”

The little brunette bit his lip and shrugged. His voice sounded as small as he whimpered, “I’m no one special... no one worth remembering.”

“Your name… what’s your name?”

“Why? It’s not important.”

“It is to me.”

Suga didn’t know why learning the villain’s name was so important to him. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he was the only villain who had managed to inflict damage. Maybe it was because Suga wanted to put a name to the face of the most beautiful boy he had ever seen. Maybe it was because he hoped that this wouldn’t be the last time they saw each other. Suga sighed. He hoped this wouldn’t be the last time he saw the brunette, he needed to see him again.

Hoseok shook his head. He leaned back, starting to phase through the wall to make his escape. Suga wouldn’t be able to get there in time to save him if he phased through, but he had a feeling Hoseok didn’t need his help, nor would he even want it after the things he snarled at him.

There was a ghost of a smile on Hoseok’s face as he slipped through the wall and disappeared.

“Call me J-hope.”

“Namu, you won’t believe who I met today.”

“Please tell me you met a man. You need a man.”

“I mean technically I met a man. I met Suga.”

“You’re right. I don’t believe you.”

Hoseok laughed into the phone as he stared at the setting sun. He could hear the sound of his best friend chuckling on the other line.

Namjoon was one of his few friends who was aware of his supervillain origin, or his lack of a supervillain origin. He knew that Hoseok never wanted to walk a life of crime. He knew that his best friend had been forced into this life so he held no resentment towards him. He knew Hoseok never wanted any of this.

Namjoon had no superpowers, but Hoseok would argue that his intelligence was his power. Hoseok might have been fondly hurled into radioactive waste to obtain his powers, but Namjoon was born his with power, in the brunette’s opinion. Namjoon appreciated Hoseok’s praise and often tried to reassure his friend that he had gifts, too, but the brunette had a hard time believing what he could do was a gift, a blessing.

“How the hell did you meet Suga?! That’s huge!”

“I sort of… went on my first mission today.”

“Wait a second. Let me get this straight.”

Hoseok smiled when he heard Namjoon pacing around the room, trying to piece everything together, “You’re telling me that your parents actually sent you off into the field for your first mission as a supervillain and you were confronted by Suga, and you lived to tell the tale? You actually met your hero?! What was he like?”

“Don’t meet your heroes, Namu.”

“What do you-

“They’re never who we thought they’d be.”

“Hoba…”

“I looked up to him,” Hoseok sighed as he tried to find comfort in the sunset, “I used to see him on the TV and I would think, “wow, now that’s a hero.” I saw him doing interviews after battles and I thought he was everything I wish I was and more… but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. He’s nothing like I thought he was and I hope I turn out to be nothing like him.”

“Hoba, tell me what happened.”

The brunette closed his eyes, trying to repress the hurtful words Suga threw at him.

His eyes looked tired as he opened them, “I’m not even mad anymore. I’m just… disappointed. I was speechless when he crashed through the building. I was finally going to meet my hero but… he painfully reminded me that I’m the bad guy and I… I don’t get a happy ending.”

He could hear Namjoon sighing on the other line. Namjoon was one of the few people who knew how sensitive Hoseok was. Namjoon knew Hoseok wore a heart shaped smile that rivaled the brightness of the sun, but underneath that smile was the shell of the man he hoped he would be.

On the outside, he was labeled as a villain but on the inside he was tearing himself apart to be what everyone wanted him to be. A simple line reminding Hoseok he was a villain didn’t seem like it would hurt much on the outside, but on the inside it was enough to destroy him.

“He called me…”

Hoseok choked back a sob, unable to finish his sentence. Namjoon was there to comfort his friend, “Yah, it’s okay, Hoba. You don’t… you don’t have to repeat it if it hurts you. You already did a lot of stuff that’s outside your comfort zone. You’ve done enough today.”

There were tears threatening to make their journeys down Hoseok’s face as he whispered, “Namu, he called me a thorn in society’s side. He said I’ll never be more than a villain.”

“Hoba, don’t listen to what he said.”

“It’s not about what he said.”

“Then-“

“It’s about whether he’s right or not.”

“If I keep following in my parents’ footsteps,” the tears streamed down his face, mimicking tiny rivers, “then he’ll be right. I’ll be nothing more than a villain. If I don’t follow in my parents’ footsteps then I’ll be a disappointment. I don’t know what’s worse… being a villain or being a disappointment.”

“You’ll never be a disappointment to me.”

Hoseok nearly choked on his tears. His shoulders shook as he returned with a watery laugh, “You’re my best friend, Namu. You’re obligated to not think I’m a disappointment.”

He knew Namjoon was nodding when he heard that contagious laughter on the other line.

The younger male chuckled, “Alright, you got me there, Hoba. I’m obligated to not think you’re a disappointment but do you know what I’m not obligated to do?”

“What?”

“I’m not obligated to call you a hero.”

“Namu, I’m not… I’m not a hero. I can’t-“

“You’re a hero to me. You’re my hero.”

If possible, more tears fell down Hoseok’s already tear stained face as he listened to the other male, “Do you remember who was there for me when my parents got a divorce? Do you remember the person who came over at three in the morning because I was a mess? Don’t you remember who snuck in through my window to hold me when I thought the weight of the world was too heavy for my shoulders?”

“Namu-“

“It was you.”

“A hero is,” Namjoon paused, trying to find the right words to say, “a hero is someone who doesn’t just do the right thing because that’s what they should do or because they’ll be glorified for it. A hero is someone who does the right thing because their heart says it is. You think with your heart and each time you do that you save someone… you save me.

Hoseok wiped his tears away with the back of his hand, even though he knew more tears were sure to follow. Hoseok’s heart was pounding in his chest at his best friend’s words.

All this time Hoseok thought a hero was someone who saved the day, but maybe a hero was someone who didn’t save everyone. Maybe a hero was someone who saved one person at a time. Maybe being hero was a process and maybe… just maybe, Hoseok could be a hero one day.

Hoseok didn’t know what he wanted anymore, but he couldn’t deny that being a hero sounded nice. He always thought that he would be a dancer but with these powers everything changed. He wanted to be the hero Namjoon painted on his canvas, but each time he tried to see that picture in his mind his parents interrupted and tore through the canvas. Each time he thought he could be something more, something else, his parents were there to break those thoughts.

Hoseok hung his head, avoiding the sunset that had once brought warmth to him and embracing the chill of the evening air.

“I want to believe you, Namu, but I can’t.”

“I’ll believe it until you can.”

Hoseok hoped that the first mission that he went on would be his last one, but he soon realized he should give up hope when it came to his parents. His parents were overjoyed with his success on his mission, and they were happy about their newfound wealth. His parents were proud of him and he tried to convince himself that he was happy about that, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was satisfied with it.

It wasn’t what he wanted.

He didn’t like how his parents were only proud of him if he was stealing things or hurting others. Hoseok felt an unbearable amount of pain in his chest when he heard the cries of the innocent being left in his wake after he completed mission after mission.

Was it worth it?

Was ruining other people’s lives worth his parents feeling proud of him? Hoseok was starting to think it wasn’t worth it but he thought that it was too late to get out of the mess he was thrown into.

He wanted to back out, but he ran the risk of disappointing his parents again. This would bring up the dreaded question of what’s worse, being a villain or a disappointment?

Hoseok was caught in the middle of two evils, and he was struggling to find which one would be the lesser of two evils. No matter what choice he made, someone was going to get hurt whether it was an innocent person or himself.

The little brunette was sent on more missions, each one successful because Suga was unable to touch him. They had turned into something like rivals or arch nemeses, but that’s not what Hoseok wanted.

He didn’t want to look at Suga, the man he once idolized, with dead eyes. He wanted to look at Suga like he was something wonderful, but he knew he couldn’t do that anymore, not after the words laced with venom that were jabbed at him.

Hoseok felt like he was going through the motions as he walked through the walls to grab two large bars of gold from the vault. He phased through the walls until he was outside staring back at Suga.

Hoseok released a long sigh, which had unknowingly become the way he greeted the superhero every time they came into contact with one another.

“Drop it, J-hope.”

“Drop it like it’s hot or just drop it, drop it?”

J-hope.

Suga.

Hoseok rolled his eyes when Suga tried to use his superhero voice on him. His superhero voice was stern and would’ve made a chill run down his spine if he had not heard it many times before. While that voice was incredibly attractive, Hoseok refused to allow himself to become aroused by the same man who had told him he was a thorn in society’s side. He refused to be seduced by the man who showed him that you can’t count on your heroes to be who they say they are.

Suga flew at Hoseok, trying to catch him off guard with his high speeds. Hoseok put both blocks of gold in his hands and cranked back, imitating a batter ready to swing at a pitch.

Suga’s eyes widened when he realized what Hoseok was about to do. He tried to slow down, but it was too late. Hoseok swung the gold and expelled stored power in the process, hitting Suga like a baseball.

Hoseok moved the gold under his left arm so he could move his right hand above his eyes, as if he was admiring the hit.

He grinned as he spoke fast like a baseball announcer, “And it’s a hard hit into left field but will it make it over the fence? And it’s going, going, going, and it’s outta here! It’s a home run for J-hope and the crowd goes wild!”

Hoseok removed his hand from his face so he could make low cheers, mimicking a crowd cheering. In the distance, Hoseok could hear the faint sound of police sirens growing louder. He would have to leave now if he wanted to avoid his face all over the news displaying him as a villain yet again. While Hoseok’s parents flourished under the negative attention, their son did not. Hoseok was about to fly away when he heard the sound of an explosion close by.

He turned around and smiled when he saw another superhero clashing with a supervillain. Hoseok had seen these two on the news before. Hoseok knew the hero by his alias, World Wide Handsome, while the brunette was better acquainted with the villain known as V, or Taehyung.

Hoseok and Taehyung had teamed up on a few missions, mostly on accident because they were robbing the same place at the same time so they figured they might as well work together.

Hoseok was about to root for his villain friend when a deadly blast ransacked the area. Taehyung’s power was that he could harness radioactive energy and create explosions while World Wide Handsome’s main ability was that he could generate force fields. While Taehyung set off an explosion, the hero was only able to shield himself from the attack, thus leaving Hoseok and other innocent bystanders to be blown back from a forceful gust of wind.

The little brunette wasn’t able to make himself intangible in time to avoid the backlash of the attack, seeing as how he never saw it coming. Taehyung was rather unpredictable when he set off an explosion so Hoseok didn’t blame the hero for not being able to protect any of the people nearby.

Hoseok pushed himself to his feet and brushed the dirt off his uniform. He was about to reach down to pick up his stolen gold when he heard the heart wrenching cry of a teenage male, accompanied by the sound of a crossing sign alerting everyone that a train was coming.

“Jungkook! Jungkook get up!”

Barely conscious in the middle of the train cross was a boy with blue hair. He looked like he was struggling to stay awake but the hit from the wind must have proved to be too lethal to him. Hoseok looked beyond Jungkook to see that there was a man with blonde hair looking worse for wear calling to his companion to move before the train came. The train was coming too fast and the blue haired male was moving too slow to avoid it.

Hoseok looked towards the battle raging in the distance. World Wide Handsome was too busy fighting Taehyung to notice Jungkook. Suga was most likely out of commission miles away so he wouldn't be able to come to Jungkook's rescue. The police were close but not close enough. There was no one that could save Jungkook. He was sure to be flattened by the train.

The little brunette was about to grab his gold and leave when a piercing pain tore through his chest. He felt frozen as his eyes locked onto the blue haired male. Jungkook looked terrified, as if he knew death was coming for him but he still wanted to try to get away. It was like Jungkook knew that he was going to die on his own. He would die if no one stepped in to save him.

All the heroes were busy and villains… villains don’t save the day. Villains do what Suga said, they wreak havoc, steal, and then they go to jail for their treachery. Villains don’t care about the innocent bystanders that are caught in the cross fire. Villains don’t rush into the fray to save someone. Villains don’t save the day.

But Hoseok wanted to.

Hoseok wanted to care about the innocent bystander who had been caught in the cross fire and was forced to lay in the train tracks awaiting their inevitable death. Hoseok wanted to rush into the fray to save the blue haired male.

Hoseok didn’t want to save everyone. He wanted to save one person. Hoseok was reminded of Namjoon’s words. He was reminded that being a hero was a process and it started by saving one person at a time.

Hoseok forgot about the gold on the ground. It didn’t matter like Jungkook’s life did. He didn’t have much time before the train would hit Jungkook. He had to act fast. He took a deep breath before he took off flying as fast as a rocket.

As much as Hoseok wished he could just grab Jungkook and fly off, he knew he couldn’t. At the speed he was flying at he ran the risk of giving Jungkook whiplash or he could hurt him worse than he already was, and he was not willing to risk this man’s health.

He flew to Jungkook and immediately started to offer his assistance. He hoisted Jungkook to his feet and called over the roaring sound of the train, “We’re not going to make it! I’m going to do something but I need you to trust me!”

“What are you going to do?!”

“Do you trust me?”

“What-“

“I said, do you trust me?”

“I… yes, I trust you.”

Hoseok wrapped his arms around Jungkook and faced his back towards the train, protecting the blue haired male. Hoseok didn’t tell the other male to close his eyes, but he knew that’s what he was doing.

The brunette held the bystander close, tucking his head into the crook of his neck so that he wouldn’t see what was about to happen. Hoseok tangled a hand into those blue locks as the train came.

“Jungkook!”

Jungkook was crying into the brunette’s neck when he heard his companion’s voice screaming for him. The blue haired male was shaking as he felt the train pass through him, just as Hoseok did. The little brunette kept his eyes open as he saw the train flow through them.

Sometimes his eyes would lock with a passenger’s for a split second but then they would be gone. It was in these long moments where he was intangible that he felt like the world was moving in slow motion, like he was invisible to everything around him.

Both males sighed in relief when the train was finished passing through them. Hoseok kissed the top of the male’s head, whispering into the blue locks, “Yah, it’s all over now. You’re okay. You can come out and see your little friend. You’re okay, Jungkook.”

Slowly, the blue haired male removed himself from the other male. He started by looking down at his body, searching for any sign of an injury from the train but the only injuries he had were scrapes from the gust of wind. When he could not detect an injury from the train, Jungkook gazed upon the man who saved him, the villain who saved him.

“Wh-Who are you?”

“I’m… I’m J-hope.”

“Are… are you a superhero?”

“Uh, no, actually… I’m a supervillain.”

“Then why would you,” Jungkook furrowed his brow in confusion before he started again, “then why would you save me? If you’re a supervillain then why would you protect me?”

“It… it felt right to save you.”

“Then maybe… maybe you’re not a villain.”

Hoseok wanted to reply to the blue haired male, but the police had arrived on the scene. It appeared that the police had witnessed him save Jungkook and they were stunned, confused on what action they were supposed to take. It wasn’t until Jungkook’s blonde companion came to him that Hoseok turned invisible, desperately trying to avoid all the attention.

Jungkook felt a weight leave him, indicating that Hoseok had pulled away. Jungkook reached a hand out to try to find the brunette, “No! Don’t go! You’re a hero, you need to stay! You saved me! You saved my life!”

“Kookie, who was that?”

“That was my hero, Jimin!”

Jimin tilted his head in confusion. He had seen that brunette before on the news being exhibited as a villain. From what the news had shown, the man that Jungkook was calling a hero was nothing more than a criminal, a villain.

Jimin slung Jungkook’s arm around his shoulders to provide support to his partner. The blonde was concerned for Jungkook, who held a look of longing in his deep brown eyes.

“That was my J-hope.”

Hoseok was sitting on his favorite rooftop waiting for the sunset to greet him like an old friend. His parents were upset with him for not retrieving the gold and for being caught on the news saving someone.

His parents were frustrated with him. They didn’t understand why Hoseok would do something like that. They sneered at him, calling him a hero as a way to try to insult him, but he didn’t feel insulted. It felt strange being called a hero, but he didn’t feel offended by it, either.

He didn’t know what that meant for him.

His parents had tried to instill in him that doing bad things was the right thing to do, but that made his insides churn. While everyone watching the news saw Hoseok turn into a villain, they didn’t see how committing crimes was killing him softly.

They didn’t see the internal battles he faced each time he dawned his all-black uniform and caused mischief to benefit his parents. No one ever saw the conflicts he was facing within himself.

Saving Jungkook was the first time it didn’t feel like his body was rejecting himself. For the first time, Hoseok felt good. He would even dare to say that he felt satisfied, and he hadn’t felt like that in such a long time. His heart was pounding in his chest, but not in a way to cause pain like it usually did.

This pounding was unfamiliar, but it was not unwelcome. Maybe it wasn’t pounding, maybe it was more like fluttering. Hoseok smiled, his heart was fluttering with happiness.

In no way would Hoseok call himself a hero after what he had done. He would say that he was merely doing what any good person would do. Hoseok bit his lip. When someone can do the things that he can do and bad things happen, he felt that they happened because of him. If he didn’t save Jungkook he would’ve felt guilt that would eat at his soul for the rest of his life. He would’ve blamed Jungkook’s death on himself because he had the power to save him but chose not to.

Hoseok looked down at his hands. There could’ve been blood on them if he chose to leave Jungkook on the train tracks to die.

“I saw what you did today.”

“Are you here to bring me to justice, Suga?”

“No, I’m not.”

“Then leave. I don’t want you here.”

Suga didn’t move towards him, nor did he leave. Hoseok’s hands balled into fists as he hissed weakly, “I don’t want you here so if you don't leave then I’ll have no choice but to make you. Don’t make me do that… please, don’t make me be a villain.”

Energy was coursing through Hoseok’s veins as he prepared himself for another fight with Suga. He didn’t want to fight. He just wanted to be alone but this man simply could not leave him be.

Suga always had to interfere with everything he was doing. He had to try to stand in his way on missions and now here he was trying to prevent him from having some much-needed time for reflection.

“I want to apologize.”

All the energy Hoseok had moved to his hands disappeared. Suga remained still behind Hoseok as he continued, “I owe you an apology after the things I said to you months ago. You were right. I don’t know you. Today proved that I don’t know you.”

“You’re damn right you don’t know me.”

“I know I don’t, but I’d like to.”

“How do I know I can trust you?”

“My name is Min Yoongi.”

“And?”

Hoseok didn’t have to look at Yoongi to know that he was nervously scratching at the back of his head, “And what? I just told you my real name. Doesn’t that mean anything to you? Doesn’t that show that I trust you if I’m telling you my secret identity?”

“I didn’t ask if you trusted me.”

Hoseok amazed himself with how snippy he was being. He turned around to glare at the hero, “I don’t give a damn if you can trust me or not. I asked you how I know I can trust you. What are you willing to do to prove to me that you’re someone I can trust?”

“I gave you my name-“

“Yeah, and how do I know it’s not fake?”

Yoongi thought it through before nodding. He sighed as he asked, “Will you let me come closer to you? I want you to be able to trust me but I need to be close to you. Would you be willing to let me come over to you?”

The little brunette continued to glare at Yoongi, unknowingly intimidating the hero. After a long five minutes, Hoseok nodded.

The platinum blonde floated over to the other male, careful not to move too fast. He didn’t want to startle Hoseok and ruin his chances at apologizing to him and potentially befriending him.

He sat down beside Hoseok and reached into his uniform to pull out his wallet. He handed over a card to Hoseok, who hesitantly grabbed it. His eyes widened when he saw that the hero had given him his driver’s license. He was telling the truth. His real name was Min Yoongi. Hoseok had a playful look in his eyes as he handed the card back to the other male.

“An alien has a driver’s license?”

“A supervillain saved the day?”

“… touché.”

They remained in a surprisingly comfortable silence, staring at the sunset that was forming in the sky. Shades of orange and pink flooded the sky, mixing together perfectly despite being two different colors. The colors were bright in their own ways but rarely met each other like this. The colors would share the sky together but it wasn’t often that they would touch each other and become one, to become more than what they were on their own.

Yoongi sighed before breaking the silence, “I want to apologize to you. I had no right to say those hurtful things to you the first time we met. I’m so used to all the villains being bad guys that I just… wrongfully assumed you were just like them.”

“I might be a villain,” Hoseok continued to stare at the sunset, not ready to look at Yoongi, “but I’m not a bad guy. Your attacks might go through me but your words… your words don’t.”

“I know and I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing to me? A villain.”

Yoongi opened his mouth but he closed it, knowing that Hoseok wasn’t done. He flinched when his words were used against him, “Why would you seek me out to apologize to me? I’m the villain in your story. I’m the one who wreaks havoc and terrorizes innocent people. I’m just a thorn in society’s side so why would it matter to you if you hurt my feelings?”

The platinum blonde avoided Hoseok, turning his head from the villain. He had thought nothing of those hurtful words the day he said them to Hoseok. He had said those words countless times to various villains throughout the years, but never once had he considered the weight of those words.

None of the other villains ever appeared hurt by those words, but maybe they felt the pain behind closed doors. He wondered how many people he had hurt with his words. He always prided himself in the power behind his punches, but he never thought of the power packed behind his words.

He intertwined his fingers. He stared at his hands as he answered softly, “You showed me today how wrong I was about you. You stuck your neck out there for someone when you didn’t have to. You showed me everything’s not black and white, superheroes and supervillains. I’m sorry, J-hope.”

“Hoseok… it’s… my name is Hoseok.”

Yoongi gradually shifted his attention to the brunette, his eyes a mile wide. The brunette rubbed his right elbow up and down as he murmured, “My friends… they call me Hobi. Maybe… maybe you could call me that, too?”

“You… you trust me?”

“I never said that.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“You didn’t have to find me,” Hoseok’s warm brown eyes finally met with Yoongi’s dark brown orbs, “you didn’t have to apologize to me, but you did. I really appreciate you doing that, Yoongi. Would you… would you believe me if I told you I looked up to you?”

“Aish, I must have disappointed you.”

As soon as the word disappointed came up, Hoseok felt like he had been punched in the stomach. Hoseok felt like he was looking back at himself. He felt like he was in his parents’ shoes telling himself how much of a letdown he was.

Hoseok bit his lip as he felt tears flooding his eyes. He hoped that the pain would be enough to force the tears away but they came spilling down his cheeks anyways.

“Hobi, I didn’t mean to make you cry-“

“It’s not you… it’s someone else.”

“Yah, you know you can talk to me, right?”

“Can I? Can I really?”

Yoongi frowned, he knew what Hoseok meant by that. The brunette tried to wipe his tears away as he cried, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that but I can’t help but be a little suspicious. I want to believe that you’re here for me but how can I truly know? You’re a hero and I’m a villain, after all.”

“Not right now we’re not,” Hoseok’s eyes widened as Yoongi activated his gummy smile, “right now we’re not Suga and J-hope. We’re Yoongi and Hoseok. We might be in our uniforms but right now we’re not on the clock. Right now, we’re just two people enjoying the sunset together.”

“Two friends, not people.”

“Right, two friends.”

Hoseok placed his hands on the cool stone beneath him. There was a small smile on his tear-stained face as he asked, “Since we’re friends now, can you tell me about yourself?”

Yoongi laughed as he rested his hands close to Hoseok’s on the stone. The platinum blonde wore a faint smile as he returned, “And what would you like to know about me? You want my origin story straight from my mouth?”

“You tell me yours and I’ll tell you mine.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard a villain’s story.”

Hoseok’s story.”

“You’re right. It’s Hoseok’s story.”

The superhero liked this change in Hoseok. When he first arrived on the rooftop the brunette was passive aggressive but now he had started to open up, like a flower blossoming after a cold winter. Yoongi still hadn’t heard Hoseok laugh, let alone see him fully smile.

Hoseok was guarded, even after they had established that they were friends. Yoongi only hoped that telling his tale would encourage Hoseok to be more open with him. He hoped his story would make him come across as more human, more like the hero Hoseok looked up to.

“In a galaxy, far, far away-“

“I will hit you.”

“Okay, okay! I won’t have a Star Wars opening!”

“Alright, so I lived on a planet beyond the milky way,” Yoongi looked to Hoseok for his approval, continuing when he got it, “and it was much like this one. We all had the same powers so we weren’t all that unique. We had laws set in place so that no one would abuse their powers, but peace doesn’t last… it never does.”

Yoongi didn’t realize that Hoseok had gradually started to lean in while he was talking, “There was this rebellious group protesting against the laws prohibiting the use of their powers. This group wanted to use their powers whenever they wanted to without a care for what that could mean for others. Their rebellion cost the lives of so many people on Cypher. Was their protest really worth it? Was freely using our powers worth all the carnage and the death of our planet?”

“How did you escape? How’d you get to Earth?”

“I took the coward’s way out.”

“But everyone said-“

“I’m not the hero everyone thinks I am.”

Hoseok placed his hand on top of Yoongi’s, providing comfort as he continued, “I didn’t have my parents send me off to protect Earth or some heroic shit like that. I was scared so I took off in an abandoned ship. I knew if I stayed there… I knew if I stayed on Cypher I would die and I… I wanted to live. I’m the only one who made it out alive. I’m the last son of Cypher.”

“Yoon, I had no idea.”

The platinum blonde found a reason to smile when he heard Hoseok address him by a newfound nickname. Yet, Yoongi wondered how Hoseok would view him after hearing that he didn’t stay and fight until he was the last man standing like the news and comic books had stated.

He wondered if Hoseok would think any less of him now that he knew the man he idolized wasn’t anything like he was on TV or in the comics. His hero was a coward who took the first chance he could get to live.

“Why didn’t you correct anyone?”

“The people looked lost,” Yoongi moved his hand so that he could intertwine his fingers with Hoseok’s, “the people here looked like they needed something to believe in. I thought I could be that for them.”

The little brunette couldn’t help but smile. Yoongi never corrected anyone because he wanted to give them something to believe in, he wanted to give the people hope.

Hoseok didn’t look up to Suga like he used to, but he found someone else to cast his eyes upon. He decided that he would much rather look up to Yoongi.

“You must think Suga is a little bitch.”

“I think you’re pretty great, Yoon.”

“Even though I’m a coward?”

“I don’t think you’re a coward.”

“I see it like this,” Hoseok leaned his head on Yoongi’s shoulder as he smiled, “you left your planet before it and its people could be destroyed. You said it yourself, you’re the last son of Cypher. You left so that your people could live on in you. Your heart beats for your planet and for your people. You tell their story now… and you’re telling one beautiful story, Yoon.”

That’s it. Yoongi threw caution into the wind as he removed his hand from Hoseok’s. The brunette was about to ask if he had done something wrong when he felt Yoongi cup his cheeks and press a kiss to his lips.

Hoseok’s eyes shot open. He raised his hands to try to pull Yoongi off of him, but he soon found himself melting into the kiss. His eyes slipped closed and his hands dropped onto the stone, unable to do anything more than return the kiss.

Slowly, Yoongi pulled away, chuckling when he heard Hoseok whine. Hoseok was a blushing mess as he questioned, “What was that for? Why did you kiss me? Why would you-“

“Because it felt right.”

Hoseok couldn’t argue with that logic, seeing as how that’s the same logic he used to justify why he saved Jungkook today. Hoseok didn’t know if he was ready to admit it, but kissing Yoongi felt right. He snickered to himself, he could already hear his parents telling him he’s a disappointment for falling for a superhero, let alone the man who was supposed to be his rival.

“What’s your story, Hoseok?”

“No destroying planets in my story, I’m afraid.”

“Damn, those types of stories are my favorite.”

“Another disappointment to add to my list.”

Yoongi furrowed his brow, clearly confused by the pained smile Hoseok had plastered on his face when he spoke. He pulled his hands away from the brunette but smiled when Hoseok grabbed his hand and squeezed it.

It was like he was silently trying to tell the other male that he didn’t want him to go. It was like he was telling Yoongi that he would need his support while he told his narrative.

“I don’t have a happy origin story, either,” Hoseok gave a bittersweet laugh before he went on, “I didn’t always have these powers, you know. On Earth, humans have mutated genes that can be passed down through generations. My mother and father were expecting me to show signs of having the same abilities as them, but I got their recessive alleles. I got the normal genes.”

The smaller male took a deep breath. He still felt pain when he told this part of his story, “It was five years ago when my parents decided they couldn’t live knowing their son didn’t have any superpowers. They used their powers against me. My parents took over my mind and my body, making me walk with them to the nuclear plant where they had found a pool of radioactive waste.”

“Hobi, they didn’t-“

“Oh, but they did.”

Yoongi felt rage bubbling within him as tears streamed down Hoseok’s face, “They threw me into a vat of radioactive waste in hopes that my genes would mutate to give me superpowers. My parents got what they wanted, but I didn’t. I’ve been stuck living a life I don’t want to live for five years now.”

“You never wanted to be a villain, did you?”

“I never even wanted powers.”

“Come here, Hobi. I've got you.”

Hoseok had never felt safe in another person’s arms, but he felt safe in Yoongi’s. He felt secure as those strong arms draped around his body, bringing him in close. Hoseok felt free to cry into the other male’s chest. Hoseok couldn’t help but smile, he was finally touching Yoongi’s broad chest.

Ah, mental care.

He could feel Yoongi planting soft kisses to his head, causing him to release a sigh he didn’t know he was holding. Hoseok never felt safe when his parents tried to embrace him, but he felt safe when Yoongi, a superhero, did.

Hoseok wasn’t sure what lied in store for him and Yoongi, but he imagined that his life would be more bearable. No longer would he have to dread seeing Yoongi when they met on the scene of the crime. No longer would he feel disappointed by his hero.

He knew that he couldn’t change and become a hero over night, and he had a feeling Yoongi knew that, too. Yet, it seemed that they were in a silent agreement that they wouldn’t try to hurt one another when they would meet in battle.

It was like they made a secret pact on the rooftop to be Suga and J-hope during the day, but they would return here to be Yoongi and Hoseok. The little brunette smiled, that didn’t sound like a bad deal.

He could make his parents proud and he could keep Yoongi in his life. He didn’t think he deserved to get the best of both worlds but here in Yoongi’s arms, he couldn’t find himself to care about whether he deserved it or not.

“You’re wonderful, Hobi.”

“So are you, Yoon.”

A couple months had passed by and Hoseok had come to realize two things. One, that Jungkook kid he had rescued from the train turned out to be more danger prone than Namjoon. He could compete with Daphne from Scooby Doo for most danger prone.

Two, his parents were plotting something. Hoseok wasn’t informed of what their plan was, as his parents had constantly told him that he need not concern himself with matters he did not truly understand. They would tell him that once he spent as long as they did in the supervillain field then he would understand what they were scheming.

Hoseok felt like he was an accomplice to whatever his parents were planning, seeing as how he was the one sent to gather the items needed. Hoseok had started to keep track of the items that his parents needed. He had suspicions that his parents were developing some kind of weapon, but he had no idea how devastating it was.

Hoseok had expressed his concerns to Yoongi, telling him that he was afraid something bad was going to happen. There was a storm coming from beyond the horizon and he wanted Yoongi to be prepared for it.

Hoseok knew that he was betraying his parents by giving Yoongi a heads up that there was trouble on the way, but he would’ve felt like he was deceiving the man he had grown to love if he didn’t let him know.

Yoongi would try his best to comfort Hoseok, but he couldn’t help but feel worried and a little unprepared for what lied in store for him and the people of Seoul. Hoseok had never revealed who his parents were so there was no way for Yoongi to take out the enemies before they had a chance to strike. There were numerous villains who worked with their significant other so there was no way for Yoongi to pin point who Hoseok’s parents were.

The platinum blonde felt like he was getting nowhere. With Hoseok relaying as much information he could without disclosing the identity of his parents, he felt like he could do nothing but work harder to bring the villains to justice. There were more villains in jail than ever before, but none of them were Hoseok’s parents. Yoongi was appreciative of Hoseok telling him about this dastardly plan that was being formulated, but he felt helpless to stop it from becoming a reality.

There were days where Yoongi and Hoseok would fight over this. Yoongi would argue that Hoseok could stop any destruction from happening if he just stopped stealing for his parents. The platinum blonde pointed out how he was aiding his parents in the creation of their weapon and would be responsible for any deaths that occurred. It hurt Yoongi to have to say that, but it was the truth and he needed Hoseok to understand that if he continued to help then he would be no better than his parents.

Hoseok knew Yoongi was right, but he didn’t feel like he could stop. He was caught between wanting to agree to stop helping his parents and wanting to earn the love of his parents. Hoseok was spending his nights lying awake, weighing the pros and cons of both options. He was starting to feel like he knew what he wanted to do, but it was too late. Hoseok had delivered the final piece.

He was out of time.

Hoseok had been given strict instructions by his parents to deliver the final piece of the weapon to them in the heart of Seoul. The heart of Seoul had a stream going through it with two sides of stone for people to walk on. Hoseok flew to one side of stone and handed the piece off to his parents. He turned away from them and stared at his warped reflection in the running water. He hoped that this would be the last time that he would have to dawn this uniform and this damn black mask.

“Behold, J-hope. It’s the end.”

His eyes shot open as he whipped around, gasping as he saw the weapon that his parents created. He put a hand over his mouth and shook his head at the sight. He had helped them do this. He had helped his parents develop a bomb, one that looked like it held the power to demolish all of Seoul.

“What… what have you two done?”

Three. You made this possible.”

“I never… I never wanted this!”

Hoseok ran towards the bomb, only to be shot into the stream by his parents. He stood up in the water and yelled, “I never wanted this! You made a fucking bomb that could level the whole city! Why are you doing this?! This… this is madness!”

“These people need to pay.”

“With their lives?!”

“We knew you wouldn’t understand,” his father shook his head in displeasure, “we thought that having you help us build this bomb you would understand why we need to destroy this city, but clearly we thought too highly of you.”

Hoseok would’ve been lying if he said that jab didn’t hurt. His eyes widened as his mother chimed in, “You’ve brought dishonor to our family legacy for the last time. We thought you could be like us… but you’ll never be like us. You’ve been a waste of oxygen since you were born, Hoseok.”

“That’s enough!”

The brunette was clutching his chest where his heart was when he heard the sound of Yoongi’s voice. Hoseok could hear cheers from the people overlooking the scene from the walkway and bridge above. Hoseok suddenly felt small with all these eyes on them. Part of him wanted to turn invisible so no one would see him, but another part of him kept him stuck in his tracks in the stream.

Yoongi shot a concerned look to Hoseok before his eyes flashed to the two villains. He was surprised that the Juvenile Jungs were Hoseok’s parents. These two constantly gave Yoongi a hard time but he prided himself in always being able to take them down. It might always be two against one when he fought them but he could always beat them. He wondered if Hoseok would team up with him to take them down, but part of him didn’t want to put the brunette in an even more difficult situation.

“We were hoping you’d show up, Suga.”

“Eager to be defeated, are you?”

The two villains cackled, which Hoseok didn’t think was a good sign. Hoseok’s father reached for something on his belt while his mother smirked, “Our son might be a disappointment but he was useful. He served his purpose for being our little errand boy. He was able to dig up something from your planet, Suga.”

Hoseok tilted his head in confusion as he gazed upon an equally as bewildered Yoongi. The platinum blonde had no time to react as Hoseok’s father opened the black box he retrieved from his belt and used his telekinesis to shoot a glowing purple crystal at the hero.

Hoseok gasped when he saw Yoongi crumple to the ground like a scrunched-up piece of paper. His face was contorted into one of pain, but he refused to give the Jungs the benefit of hearing him scream.

“What are you doing to him?!”

The little brunette couldn’t take his eyes off the man he loved, who was thrashing around on the ground as the purple crystal was floating around him like it was tormenting him. Hoseok’s parents were enjoying seeing the hero in such a weakened state on the ground.

As long as Hoseok had known Yoongi, there was nothing on Earth that could harm him. His eyes widened as he remembered his father’s words, something from your planet.

“Cypherite… how did you get-“

You stole it for us.”

“No..."

“Looks like you were useful for something after all.”

Yoongi raised his head, sending a pained smile to Hoseok to try to reassure him that he would be okay. The smaller male was shaking in the water.

He had done this to Yoongi.

He had unknowingly stolen Cypherite, Yoongi’s one weakness. He was the reason why Yoongi was withering away on the ground. He was going to be the reason why Yoongi died, along with the many people who were witnessing the scene from above.

“Come to us, Hoseok. Join us.”

“Don’t… don’t do it, Hobi.”

Even when he was in pain, Yoongi was trying to protect him. Hoseok felt tears in his eyes as his parents tried to persuade him, “Join us in taking over Seoul and then we can take over the world as a family. We’ll mold you into the perfect villain. We’ll find a use for you. We’ll make sure you have a place in this world, Hoseok.”

“Don’t listen to them,” Yoongi was on his hands and knees, pleading with the brunette, “they’ll toss you away the second you fuck up… they don’t want you… they don’t care about you like I do… please, Hobi… help me.”

Hoseok looked back and forth from his parents to Yoongi. He always felt like he was in the middle but now he truly was. On one side of the stream was his parents, the people who had raised him and given him life. On one side was his parents, the people who had taken away his life and tried to recreate it in their image.

Hoseok closed his eyes, trying to drown out everyone’s voices. On the other side of the stream was Yoongi, the man who had once told him that he was nothing more than villain and nothing more than a thorn in society’s side. On the other side was Yoongi, the man who had shown him what love is supposed to be like and given him his own heart to hold in his small hands.

He didn’t know what to do. Both sides had hurt him, but both sides had also had positive impacts on his life. No matter what he chose, he would disappoint someone.

If he chose his parents, Yoongi would feel like he had been betrayed. They were in the process of becoming lovers so for Yoongi to know he had been betrayed by the man he loved would be devastating.

Yet, if he chose Yoongi over his parents then he would have let his creators down once more. He didn’t know if he would be able to cope with knowing that he had proved his parents right, that he only brought dishonor to his family.

“J-hope! Do something! Help Suga!”

That voice. Hoseok gradually lifted his head and looked in the direction of the all too familiar voice. His eyes locked on the blue haired male he had saved from a train months ago. His blonde companion was with him, stuck to his side like glue, but Hoseok didn’t pay him much attention. All he could focus on was the blue haired male, his Jungkook.

“You’ve got to save Suga!”

“Jungkookie… I’m not… I’m not a hero.”

“You’re my hero, J-hope!”

The little brunette took a surprised step back, causing water to splash against his legs. Tears were pooling in his eyes as Jungkook shouted, “You’re not the bad guy, J-hope! You never were! Please, I’m begging you! Save Suga! Don’t prove everyone right! Don’t show them you’re the villain!”

“Don’t you see it,” Hoseok had tears falling down his face, adding water to the stream he was standing in, “I am the bad guy. I’ve tried but I’m no good, Jungkook. I never was. There’s no point in trying to be anything other than this… than a villain.”

Just as Hoseok turned to join his parents, an unfamiliar voice called to him. Hoseok looked over his shoulder to see Jimin yelling to him, “Don’t you dare say you’re a villain after all the times you saved Jungkook! You’d be a villain if you left him there to die, but you didn’t! You’ll only be the villain right now if you turn away from Suga!”

Hoseok closed his eyes and shook his head, trying to force Jimin’s pressing voice out, “You’ve got the world watching you. Are you going to be the villain or are you be the hero? This is your choice, J-hope.”

His eyes shot open at those words. This is your choice. He looked between his parents and Yoongi. He would have to choose one of them. He would have to ignore them calling for him. He refused to let them sway his decision.

This was his choice.

He was finally going to take his life back. He had the choice to be the villain his parents always wanted him to be or the hero he thought he could never be.

He had let his parents walk all over him for his entire life. They had taken so much from him throughout his life but today that would end. He wouldn’t let them dictate who he was going to be.

He didn’t think he would be the best superhero, considering his family background, but he refused to let these doubts linger in his mind anymore. He refused to let himself hold him back. He had no doubts in his mind. He knew what he wanted to do and who he wanted to be.

Everyone gasped when they saw Hoseok fly to Yoongi, snatching the crystal and absorbing its power.

He turned to his parents and crushed the crystal in his hand, “You can’t control me anymore. You don’t get to decide who I’m going to be. You took away my dreams but I’m taking back my future.”

“You disappoint us, Hoseok.”

“Yeah, what else is new?”

“I don’t need your approval,” Hoseok chucked the shattered pieces of the crystal at his parents, “I don’t need you to be proud of me. I never needed any of it. If I have to earn your love then I don’t want it and I don’t want you.”

“You know you can’t defeat us, Hoseok.”

The little brunette could hear Yoongi stumbling to his feet, but Hoseok held a hand up to tell him this battle was his to fight. Yoongi’s eyes widened at the sight. The platinum blonde wondered if Hoseok had what it took to defeat his own parents.

It was one thing to fight someone you don’t know, but it’s completely different to fight the people who raised you since birth. These weren’t just villains. They were his parents.

Hoseok cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders, warming himself up for the fight. He smirked at his parents, “I love it when you underestimate me. It makes winning that much more satisfying.”

Yoongi stood back and watched as Hoseok slowly flew towards his parents. His father tried to use his telekinesis to force the water from the stream to shoot out at Hoseok, but it went through the brunette.

Hoseok’s father continued to throw objects at him until he realized he wasn’t getting anywhere with his attacks. Hoseok saw his father’s eyes flash to Jungkook, and that’s all he needed to see to know that his father was going to use the blue haired male against him.

“Touch him and I won’t hesitate to kill you.”

“You wouldn’t-“

Hoseok screamed as he blasted his father with a wave of energy from his chest. His father was slammed into the stone wall behind him, crying out in pain as his body was forced into the stone.

Hoseok ceased his attack, breathing heavily as he looked at the damage he had done. His father was badly burned from the energy, blood gushing from his wounds. Hoseok held back and his father knew that. Hoseok could have killed him, but he didn’t.

“Touch any of these people,” Hoseok’s clenched fists were radiating with energy as he growled, “and I’ll end both of you. I don’t care who you are. I won’t let you hurt these people.”

“Then I’ll hurt you for standing with them!”

“Do your worst.”

“I intend to.”

Hoseok continued to fly forward, a devilish smile on his face when his mother realized that she couldn’t get in his head to manipulate him.

Her eyes flickered to Jungkook, but Hoseok wouldn’t allow her to try to hurt him, either. Hoseok flew forward and grabbed his mother by her throat, smashing her against the stone wall beside her husband.

“Didn’t I say I’d end you if you touched him?!”

His mother clawed at his hand, trying to free herself. He leaned in, growling in her ear, “It’s taken me some time but even my mind is now intangible. You can’t get inside my head anymore. I’m finally free.”

“You know what’s the best part of my superpowers,” Hoseok’s grip tightened on his mother’s neck, “I can absorb anything. I can absorb your powers and turn them into energy for my own purposes. I can take away everything that makes you special, just like you took away my dreams.”

“Pl-Please… don’t.”

“You’ve abused your powers for too long.”

“You can’t… you can’t do this!”

Hoseok leaned back so he could watch as he drained his mother’s powers, “You’re the one who gave me these powers and now I’m taking yours away. How does it feel to be responsible for your own demise?”

He dropped his mother on the ground when he was done with her. She looked up to see that her son had moved onto his father, sucking him dry just as he had done to her. He tossed his father to the ground beside his mother. Both of them attempted to use their powers against him, only to realize Hoseok truly had drained them of their gifts.

They looked up at him in utter disbelief. This was the power they knew their son always had, but they never gave him a chance. Never in their wildest dreams did they think that their own son would turn on them and take their powers away from them. Never did they think that the child they created would betray them in the most intimate way possible, by taking away what made them special.

“You two can’t hurt anyone anymore.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”

Hoseok’s eyes widened when his mother reached out and activated the bomb. He raced forward and cursed when he saw that there was one minute until the bomb went off. There was no time to evacuate the people. Everyone here would perish, along with the beautiful city Hoseok had grown to love.

With his strength returned to him, Yoongi flew over to Hoseok. He shook his head as he suggested, “I can take the bomb out of the atmosphere and let it detonate there. No one would get hurt-“

“You would.”

“It’s worth it if I can save these people.”

“It’s not worth it to me.”

Yoongi felt Hoseok cup his cheeks, just as he had once done to the smaller male before.

Hoseok gave a small smile, “It’s too high a price to pay to have you do that. I can’t risk you getting hurt. I created this mess so let me fix it.”

“You don’t have anything to prove.”

“I know… but it feels like the right thing to do.”

Yoongi didn’t hesitate to place his hands on Hoseok’s hips, bringing him in to kiss him. Yoongi didn’t care that he was shamelessly kissing the recently retired villain.

Yoongi didn’t care that the world could see that he was in love with someone who had accidentally caused so much pain. He didn’t care what people had to say about him or his relationship with Hoseok. All he cared about was the little brunette, the man who never thought he could be more than a villain.

Slowly, they pulled away from each other. Hoseok pressed a kiss to Yoongi’s cheek, his way of saying he’ll be back. Hoseok grabbed the bomb and flew into the air.

He wasn’t an alien like Yoongi so he knew he couldn’t bring the bomb outside the atmosphere. All he could do was bring the bomb with him high enough that the detonation wouldn’t hurt anyone if it was too much for him to absorb all at once.

Yoongi noticed all the people surrounding them staring into the sky, trying to pin point Hoseok. He could hear some of the bystanders asking each other why a villain would put their life on the line for them. He could hear Jungkook and Jimin telling others that J-hope wasn’t a villain. They were spreading the word that Hoseok was always a hero, he just got lost along the way as he tried to find who he was meant to be.

Hoseok could hear the ticking of the bomb. Truth be told, he was terrified. He knew his abilities allowed him to absorb anything and everything with no limits, but he had never absorbed the energy from an explosion like this before. He knew he was going to immediately feel overwhelmed by such intense power, but he also knew he had to try to absorb it the best he could. He had people down there he needed to protect.

He closed his eyes as he saw the countdown fall to ten. He took a deep breath, preparing himself for the burst of energy to wash over him like a wave he had never experienced before. His eyes were glowing when he opened them. The bomb went off, an explosion shooting across the sky.

At first, Yoongi debated flying up there but the strength of the wind from the explosion caused everyone to fall to the ground. He looked up just in time to see the blast about to touch a building to destroy it when it stopped, as if it was frozen in time.

Everyone gasped in awe as they saw the explosion receding. Everyone followed the dark clouds and fire back until they found the source of where it was going to, Hoseok.

They could faintly hear him screaming as he sucked in the energy of the explosion like a leech. He converted the smoke and fire into energy, harnessing it within himself.

Everyone watched as the blast disappeared within the brunette, cheering and applauding him when the deed was done. Their cheers quickly faded into screams of terror when they saw Hoseok falling out of the sky.

Yoongi shot into the sky, desperately hoping that he would be able to catch Hoseok in time. A surge of relief came over Yoongi when he managed to secure the brunette in his arms. He carefully floated down to the ground, smiling when he saw Hoseok’s eyes flutter open. A tired smile etched itself across Hoseok’s face as he nuzzled into Yoongi’s strong chest.

“Are you okay, Hobi?”

“I’m okay now that you’re here.”

The platinum blonde kept an arm around Hoseok’s waist as he placed him on his feet. Hoseok rested a hand on Yoongi’s chest, shrinking against him when he saw people looking down at him like they were judging him.

He gripped the fabric of Yoongi’s uniform, silently telling him that he was scared of what they were going to say to him. He was a villain turned hero, after all. He wasn’t all good, but he hoped that he had shown the people that even villains can have a change of heart, that even he can change his fate.

Hoseok was about to turn invisible to hide from everyone until someone started to slowly clap, following by another person. Hoseok’s eyes locked onto the person who had started the applause, Jungkook. Hoseok bit his lip to try to stop his smile, but it was pointless.

A beautiful heart shaped smile was plastered on his face as Jungkook and Jimin set off a spark that turned into wildfire. Jungkook and Jimin were the ones who started the applause for Hoseok, for their hero.

This was overwhelming, but not overwhelming like it was with the bomb. This was a good feeling overpowering his entire being. He felt like all the pieces of his life were finally settling into place. His parents were behind him being arrested, giving him the freedom to finally choose who he was going to be.

With his parents behind him and the love of the people of Seoul in front of him, Hoseok started to believe that his future was bright once again.

Fresh tears made their journeys down his face as the people chanted his name, J-hope. No longer would the people view him as a supervillain. No longer would he have to grovel at his parents’ feet for their love. No longer would he have to live a life that didn’t suit him. No longer would he be alone, because he would always have Yoongi.

“Do you hear what they’re chanting?”

“J-hope… that’s me.”

Yoongi brought Hoseok close so that he could plant a kiss to the top of his head, like he was sealing a promise. Hoseok knew that the older male was sealing their fate, their future together.

Yoongi wouldn’t have to look at Hoseok as the villain or his rival. Now, he could turn to Hoseok and view him the way he always hoped he could. Finally, he could gaze upon his Hoseok, his lover, his hero.

“They’re going to want to remember the name.”

Notes:

Thank you all for reading! :)

I'm a sucker for making Hobi the strongest superhero like I always want to give him these god-like superpowers to show off how powerful he is!! So, for my next story I'm going to be creating something with multiple chapters, similar to Soul Partners if you've read that from my works! It's mostly Hobi-centric (sope will be present because I love them) and it'll have some fluff, angst, and many heart to heart moments so if that's something you're interested in, stay tuned! I'll be writing all the chapters out and posting it all at once so this might take a week or two, or less knowing me! The chapters won't be the longest things in the world but I do hope you'll enjoy them when they're out! :)
