Work Text:

Marinette slipped into the office she'd been directed to, stifling her laughter. The shrug someone had offered her was hanging over her arm, and she'd made no move to put it on.

She only had to wait a moment for the phone call to be accepted.

"Jason," She started, only to not hear her husband respond.

"Mama!" Her daughter's voice whispered. "Shhh, Daddy's asleep."

Marinette glanced back down at the artwork on her hands and arms, amused as she finally understood why her entire right hand had become a mess of greens and purples and pink stripes. The squiggly letter practice up her left arm to her elbow made sense. "Does Daddy know you got into your markers?" She assumed not.

"He left them down from before naps," Ella explained, her whisper forgotten as she forgot about her father. "And he wasn't waking up and I got bored."

Marinette waited, sure that the commotion would wake Jason, and as expected heard the phone tumble on the other line as Ella screeched. She listened, a soft smile on her lips as Jason probably swooped down to grab her and tickle her, Ella's laughter loud in the tinny speakers. And then the rustle of being picked back up.

"Hello, Love," Marinette said dryly. "Did you know I was just explaining to my design team why we weren't going to mix green and purple this season?"

"Well, clearly El thought you were wrong," he laughed, and Ella squealed again too, clearly delighted. "Sorry, Mari. I thought we were both down for a nap, but I suppose I underestimated her yet again."

"It's fine." She left the jacket on the office chair behind the desk. "We had a break and I thought I'd check in about it."

"Well, it's under control now," She could hear the grin in his voice. "We'll see you when you get home."

"Don't forget about the groceries," She reminded, already leaving the office and heading back to the meeting room. She didn't care about covering her marks. They were part of her, her husband and daughter, her loves. Plus, her presentation would have some extra pizazz as she used her neon hand to point at the screen.

"We'll head out after lunch," Jason promised, and then muffled, "Yes, El, we can get ice cream. Don't tell Mama."

"Cookie dough with sprinkles," She rolled her eyes. "Love you."

"Love you," Jason replied, as Ella yelled the same. Marinette disconnected the call, still smiling.
