Chapter Text
"DID WE JUST GET FUCKING ISEKAIED INTO MINECRAFT?!" Wilbur shouted, definitely mispronouncing a word that only Phil actually knew, who unluckily, wasn't there. "Minecraft?! Are you sure?" Tubbo asked, looking around the empty meadow they were in. It was a flower field, and he could see a birch forest in the distance. "Well, it's what we were playing before we blacked out. And we're definitely dressed like our skins," Tommy mused, slowly standing up and taking an unsteady step. No one had been wearing the signature outfits the skins were modeled after when they had started up the game. Now, Tommy was clad in a baseball-tee and Wilbur in his yellow sweater.
The dirt crunched underneath his sneakers, the feeling of reality eliminating all possibilities of being in a weird dream.
Technoblade has joined the game.
Quackity has joined the game.
Fundy has joined the game.
Ranboo has joined the game.
"...What the fuckkkkk," Wil whispered, looking up into the digital sky where the announcements had come from. "Game messages. That's how we get them..." Tubbo whispered, staring up into the clouds as well.
"It doesn't look very... blocky," Tommy interrupted, poking the perfectly real-looking flowers, nothing like their in-game counterpart. "Well, good thing too because if it was all squares, then I'd be having an even bigger breakdown," Wil sighed, running a shaking hand through his hair.
He stopped the movement quickly, though, spotting a strange device on his wrist as his sleeve fell.
It looked like a bulky grey smartwatch, the screen dark. "What the fuck is this?!" Wilbur wondered aloud, prompting the others to examine themselves more closely.
"Lads, look at this!" Tommy shouted, holding up the opposite wrist from the one Wil was inspecting.
It showed a row of ten hearts and a hunger bar below it.
"What the shit? I mean, I guess they had to include the game mechanics somehow..." The adult whispered, running a finger over his own health bar. Wait... something was off about it...
The non-pixelated hearts made the black lines harder to notice, but there was no doubt they were what he thought they were.
"Wait- Toms, these are hardcore hearts," Tubbo whispered, fear filling his voice as the realization dawned on them.
They only had one life.
"SHIT!" Tommy screamed, holding his head in his hands as Wilbur shook slightly. Everyone's minds were going a mile a minute, processing the situation and how to use their knowledge of the game to their advantage.
"Mobs, mobs must exist if we can lose hearts! That means sheep! And wool-"
"And wool means beds! We can skip the night!" Tubbo finished, completing Wilbur's sentence with an air of excitement.
"No, we can't. There are other people in this world. We can't skip the night if they're awake," Tommy pointed out, bringing back the grim air. "I'm more worried about how the fuck we got here! How do we get out?" The teen sighed, looking to Wil for answers he didn't have.
The older had the dread-filled realization that he was alone with the two teenagers, both of whom would be relying on him for comfort and leadership, something he wasn't quite sure he could provide.
"Toms, we can't focus on that just yet. We will, I promise we'll find answers, but we're in hardcore mode . We need to focus on surviving first and finding the others. The game said others joined, right? Were we the first, or had others arrived before us? And if so, how long ago?" Wilbur rambled, listing off necessities as the teens filled with trepidation.
"But, I promise we'll be okay. We have a difficult task, and it'll take a bit of work finding the gang, but we can do it. Let's work on building a base and getting food first before we worry about it all," Wil concluded, putting both hands on their shoulders and giving them a reassuring smile.
He didn't know what happens if they die, but he wasn't going to let them find out. And right now, the best way to do that is to keep the kids calm.
"R-Right. Okay. I see trees over there," Tubbo sighed, taking a deep breath as he pointed towards the forest. "Perfect, thank you, Tubbo. How about you boys gather some flowers on the edge of the forest while I get some wood?" Wilbur suggested, nudging Tommy, who slowly crouched down and picked a daisy.
"Great! We can decorate our house and make it so amazing that we can brag all we want when we see the others," Wil smiled, ruffling their hair as he stepped away towards the forest.
Tommy and Tubbo would've made getting wood much faster, but he didn't know if the forest had any dangers, and he wasn't about to risk it.
Wil came to a stop in front of the trees, remembering the usual way the wood is collected before quickly ruling it out. The bark is tough, and the trunk is thick. He'd need an axe to cut it down.
"Okay, Wilbur! You've got this! What can we get...? A stick! Sticks are good; Great, even!" Wil sighed, mumbling to himself as he fashioned a hatchet with some rocks and vines. It wasn't great, but it'd do the job for now.
He swung it at the tree, finding that it cut through the tree smoothly. It took a few chops, but he got the log much quicker than expected.
Game mechanics.
"Uhhhhh...Right, now what?" Wil huffed, staring at the four logs he had gathered. Planks. Planks were the next step, right?
But he'd need a crafting menu. And an inventory. Shit.
Wilbur sighed, slumping against a stump and putting his head in his hands. He stared at the small black screen on his wrist, watching with surprise as it blinked to life. "WHAT THE FUCK-?" Wil scrambled to stand up, a holographic screen opening up above his wrist as he held it up.
It showed his inventory.
"HOLY FUCK!" He shouted in wonder, smiling despite himself at the discovery. "Okay! Um- how do I...?" Wil hovered his hand over the screen, daring to swipe on it. The image changed completely, instead showing what seemed like a chat log.
It had a list of names.
His friends were all in here. Every single DreamSMP member was on the list, from Technoblade to Purpled. The newest arrivals were the last of them needed to complete the cast. Wilbur frantically clicked on Techno's name, getting a keyboard in reward.
" Techno! Please tell me your nerdy shit is keeping you safe! Where are you? " He quickly sent the message, heart racing as he hoped for a quick response.
The moments passed by like decades, Wil's hope diminishing with each passing second. Maybe it didn't work.
Or maybe Techno hasn't woken up yet.
What if he hadn't figure out the device?
"Come on, Tech," Wil whispered, staring at his screen intensely.
" I'm fine. I think I'm by a lake, near a birch forest. "
The brunette stared at the message, laughing in disbelief as he reread it. He was near a birch forest. Wil had heard a stream earlier; if he can find it and follow it to a lake, then he'd find Techno!
"Wilbur!!! We need to show you something!!" Tommy called out from the edge of the forest, looking curiously at Wilbur's silhouette.
"Uh- Yeah, Toms?" Wil called back, hesitant to leave the forest now that he knew Techno was close by. The man was a god at Minecraft; He might be essential to their survival, plus he might know some things.
"We figured out the inventory! It turns into a backpack!" Tommy shouted, taking a step into the forest and jogging up to Wil when he deemed no dangers were nearby.
The teens helped Wilbur set up his backpack and make a crafting table while he told them about the messages, explaining his plans to find Technoblade.
"The Blade?!?! He's nearby?" The blonde asked excitedly, accidentally dropping his bundle of flowers as he jumped up.
"Yeah, he is! I told him we're by the flower fields but seeing as it's Techno, we might have to pick him up instead. I want us to have tools first, though, in case we run into anyone or anything," Wilbur explained, putting a wooden sword together with the crafting table's help. He hesitated for a moment before handing it to Tubbo, uneasy with the idea of the teen accidentally hurting himself but knowing that it'd be better to be armed when venturing this world.
"Well, if skills transfer over, then I'm frightened of him, to be honest," Tubbo sighed, swinging his wooden sword much more gracefully than expected.
"Wait... if we look like our skins..." Tommy trailed off, letting the realization dawn on everyone else.
"Okay, now I'm a bit terrified as well," Wilbur laughed, wondering what the game would do to Fundy, Ranboo, and Techno.
Hell, even Quackity's skin is a bit strange. Actually, if skins affect them, then most of the server is screwed.
Tubbo struck the tree trunks, appearing much more skilled than he should be. Tommy joined him, and the sparring with wooden sticks quickly turned into an intelligence mission. Both teens were decently skilled at sword fighting despite never learning in real life, which only meant that however skilled you were in Minecraft would decide if you're vulnerable or not.
Welp, Wilbur's screwed.
"We need to get to Techno; it's almost nightfall. I would love to upgrade our base from a furnace and a crafting table to something better, but we don't have time. We should get going before it's dark out, so we can be back by sunset," Wilbur instructed with a sigh, stuffing the fourth stone sword into his backpack for Techno.
"Yes! Finally, we're doing something useful! And we're saving the Blade!" Tommy grinned, tossing his poppies onto the crafting table and running ahead as they began to travel.
The stream wasn't hard to find, but following it was tricky. Like Minecraft, the water didn't flow; It was still, leaving them no clue as to where it was sourced from or where it would runoff into the ocean. Tommy insisted on going North, and it was only about an hour until they reached a lake.
It was much more peaceful than the trio would like to admit; It could've been a regular hike if it weren't for the fact that Minecraft mechanics kept making an appearance, including the eat to regenerate functions.
The lake was huge and would take hours to circle around and search, but fortunately, Techno had been clever and lit a fire, the smoke signaling where he was.
" I see you, nerd. " Wilbur stared at the message before glancing around, eyebrows furrowing as he couldn't spot anyone.
Suddenly, a man dropped from the trees, landing on his feet with the tell-tale sound of taking damage. "Halloooo!"
Honestly? Techno didn't look half bad.
Wilbur had been wondering what the game would set him as, and now he has an answer. Techno's hair was an unexpected brown, cut short yet fluffy with piglin ears sticking out of it.
He had his whole royalty outfit, crown and all, but the pig features were surprisingly normal looking. The ears and a hog-like tail were the extents of it, but red eyes stuck out to Wil the most, hiding behind Techno's square-framed glasses.
"THE BLADE IS A FURRY NOW!" Tommy shouted, running to hug the older as Tubbo circled the man curiously. "Yep. Kinda regretting my brand now," The man laughed, rubbing his neck sheepishly.
"Holy shit, Tech! You look awesome!" Wilbur laughed, ruffling the pig's hair. Techno swatted him away, pink in the face from all the attention.
"Shut up. Where's your base?" He drawled, tilting his head curiously. "Not much of a base at the moment, but it's in a flower field, which is easy to light up. Come on," Wil smiled, happy to have another adult to help, especially one with extensive knowledge of the game. Phil would be a better guide, but from the messages they've exchanged, he's too far from them to travel to.
Techno told them all about how he spawned in actually in the lake and nearly drowned, only to barely escape death by a trident. The mob had dropped its weapon, though, so he had been able to regen by catching fish.
He had been making tools when Wilbur had messaged him, a testament to how quickly Techno was able to figure the game out.
"It's just Minecraft, and luckily for me, I'm good at that." The pig had shrugged when Tommy had asked how he progressed so quickly. "Have you seen the others? Some of them joined about the same time you did," Wilbur asked, and the younger shook his head.
"No one's messaged me besides Phil and you, and I haven't seen anyone else until now," Techno replied, tail flicking at the tall grass as they stepped into the meadow. The sun was setting now, the torches they placed illuminating the small set-up they procured.
"Wow. We should really make a house," Techno hummed, staring at the furnace and crafting table. Wilbur rolled his eyes, noting the importance of the task despite being unsure where to start. "WOO, BASE BUILDING! I'm good at that!" Tubbo said excitedly, placing down wood and quickly calling for Wilbur's help to make it look livable.
"Tommy, why don't you go with Techno and mine some iron? We'll probably need some armor soon," Wil suggested, helping Tubbo build a quick starter house around them. The teen nodded, running off to bother the pig while the others built.
"So~! Techno! My man!" Tommy grinned, catching up to the man's side as he explored a small cave. "Yes, Tommy?" Techno sighed, shoveling iron ore into his bag.
"I was just... are those comfortable? Like- ears 'n shit," Tommy questioned, poking the brunette's hair.
"S'okay. Definitely hate the way it looks, but it heightens my sense of hearing," Techno admitted, tail lashing as he crouched to examine a hole to another cave.
"I wonder what the game did to Ranboo. He must be terrified," The blonde mumbled. The words hung in the air, feeling them both with concern and unease.
"We'll find him. We'll find him, and then we can help him," Techno said finally, voice firm and determined.
"Yay!! He's not answering my messages, but I think I know where he is! We're rescuing memory boy next!"
