This was a request, I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

Today wasn't going the way Wilbur had intended in the slightest. He had plans with Tommy and Phil to film a vlog for Tommy's new channel, but he didn't feel well in the slightest.

He hadn't felt well for the past few days, so yes, he did panic at first. Phil had even decided to travel down to Wilbur's house to keep him company- well it worked both ways.

"You've probably just got a cold mate, it's fine." Phil reassured, although he wasn't entirely sure. However, that helped settle Wilbur's nerves for the time being, and it wasn't long before the two were driving up to Nottingham.

The older of the two had offered to drive, and Wilbur had happily obliged to just sit in the passenger seat. He definitely felt way worse, the blaring sun not helping in the slightest.

There was a comfortable silence for a large part of the journey, it mostly being broken by Wilbur's pained groans as feverish aches settles into his bones, and then occasional cramp bothered his abdomen.

"You doing okay mate?" Phil questioned, looking over at Wilbur as they were in standstill traffic. He had noticed how pale Wilbur was that morning, but hadn't said anything in case he didn't feel any different.

"I just feel like, hot and crampy, if that makes sense." He struggled to explain, taking off his glasses and leaning back in his chair, stretching his legs to see if that helped.

Phil's facial expression morphed into a concerned frown as he glanced over. "You need me to stop at a service station?" He asked, not wanting to put Wilbur through unnecessary pain if it could be avoided.

Wilbur shook his head, relaxing again and loosely resting his hands on his stomach. “Not that kind of cramp Phil. Well- similar, but…not?” He struggled to explain.

The traffic started to move at a faster pace, and soon the two were back to cruising along. That seemed to be all the major traffic they’d encounter on the journey, soon switching to quieter lanes as they neared the small city.

Wilbur and Phil were supposed to be meeting Tommy in like an hour. They weren’t filming the vlog today, seeing as it was too late in the day to do what they intended.

Honestly, Wilbur was thankful. He didn’t think he’d manage to do anything of worth today, staying pretty quiet once they actually met Tommy, immediately being called out by the child and then his mother when they got back to his house.

He felt like utter shit. The dull cramps continued to bounce around his lower stomach and into his back, causing him to have a pretty much constantly pained expression.

“If he’s not any better by morning we’re gonna have to postpone the vlog mate.” Phil said to Tommy, as the two had gone inside to ‘get drinks’ while Wilbur sat in the garden, almost completely hunched over.

“What’s actually up with him? Like, I haven’t asked yet.” Tommy questioned, getting a can of coke from the fridge. It was a hot day, and the drink just hit the spot.

“He told me he was warm and had cramps when we were driving up, but I haven’t nabbed his temperature so I don’t know how warm he is.”

After hearing that, Tommy put his can down and began rooting through the cupboards, looking for the trust thermometer his mum had kept for god knows how long. It wasn’t long before he found it.

The teen silently gave it to Phil, who went outside. “Hey Wil, I’m just gonna check your temperature alright mate?” He explained, crouching in front of Wilbur and pushing his hair back as it had drooped over his eyes. He physically flinched at how hot his forehead was.

Phil anxiously waited for the beep of the thermometer once it was in Wilbur’s ear. The moment he heard it, he gently extracted it and gave Wilbur a gentle smile, looking down at the screen.

He tried desperately hard to not show his fear, his concern, as the numbers flashed brightly with a red background.

His temperature was 40.1 fucking degrees Celsius.

“What is it?” Wilbur quietly asked, hugging himself and leaning back in the chair, looking exhausted- he felt it too.

“It’s a little bit high, so we might have to do something about that. You feeling cold at all?” Phil calmly explained, then asked, feeling his stomach drop as Wilbur slowly nodded.

“Alright, I’m gonna get Tommy to bring you a blanket and a drink.” The older male more so spoke to himself, heading back inside the house with a swift pace.

“Phil? You okay?” Tommy questioned, once he’d finished talking with his mum. Even she looked worried, and she didn’t even know what was going on.

“I think we’re gonna have to call an ambulance.” Phil shakily explained, holding out the thermometer that still had the same numbers on it.

Tommy seemed a little confused, but also panicked due to his mum and Phil’s reactions. He went outside to sit with Wilbur, leaving the adults in the kitchen.

Wilbur was slouched in the chair, pained whimpers followed every breath. Tommy knelt beside him, gently rubbing his back. “Your gonna be okay, pal.”

The ambulance arrived about an hour later, and after a quick assessment it was painfully obvious that Wilbur had a bladder infection. Everything seemed to add up.

Only one person was allowed in the ambulance, and so Phil accompanied his friend as he was struck with various different needles, shifted to different areas and finally given some antibiotics through an IV.

Understandably so, the vlog was postponed until Wilbur felt 100%. Yeah, the three joked about it for a while after, but it was all in good fun.
