Summary
Joel was not having a good day, and upon seeing the profits- if you could even call them that- of his failing shop, he found that he had to go get diamonds the manual way, through caving.
It was all fine until he stumbled across a ravine inside the cave, with a larger cave right across at the same level as him. Joel would glance down, seeing it to be a pretty small jump if he aimed right for the corner. Maybe 4 or 5 blocks at the most.. If he ran quick enough he could definitely make that jump.
So fueled by his determination for diamonds, he quickly would back up without thinking much, before sprinting over to the ledge. He knew upon leaving the ground that he was doomed.
