Work Text:

Izuku could only stare at the reflection in the mirror.

Waving his hand, it copied Izuku’s movements. There was no delay, no pausing. The reflection mirrored his actions perfectly. Which is what your reflection is supposed to do in mirrors of course… but this isn’t Izuku’s reflection in front of him.

Should he scream? Izuku couldn’t bring himself to. The shock drained all warmth and feeling from his body. He felt his mouth dry at the image in front of him. The cold air of the bathroom felt so much colder at this moment.

The person in the mirror was not Izuku. Izuku didn’t have white hair. Not to mention that while the eyes of this person might have been green...but they were not the warm emerald of Izuku’s eyes. These eyes were a sickly viridian.

Izuku wanted to yell, scream, shout...something to alert anyone that something was wrong! Izuku was scared at what he was seeing. Where was his reflection? Whose reflection is this? His brain screeched.

Izuku wanted to know what the heck was going on with him. Was he going crazy? Did a quirk hit him? Could this be a side effect of One for All?

Dashing away from the mirror and into his bedroom to snatch his phone. Izuku clambered the block, frantically searching for his mentor’s number. If anyone might know if it’s a side effect of One for all it was him.

Izuku walked back to the bathroom mirror, and his finger hovered over the button to call All Might. The greenette hesitating as Izuku looked up at the mirror.

His reflection was back to normal.

Izuku would say that the reflection incident was a stray event. He certainly wished it was. Things just kept happening though, and Izuku couldn’t help but freak the fuck out.

This time Izuku was going to bed after a bit of a late night of studying. It was dark and other than Izuku’s table lamp the only thing lighting the room was the moonlight from the open window near his bed giving the room an almost sleepy atmosphere.

Izuku enjoyed quiet nights like these.

Turning to look at the clock. Izuku would notice a figure in the corner of the room. It was horrifying, to say the least. The figure was tall. Way taller than Izuku. The eyes of the figure were large gaping holes that leaked with what looked like a combination of both fresh and new blood.

The figure’s head was just a massive disfigurement overall though. The massive dents and cracks, even in the barely lit room Izuku could make out the shiny ivory peeking...that- that looked like part of the figure’s skull peeking out.

The arms of the figure seemed to be gone...ripped off the body. The bones were jagged and sharp. Glistening in the moonlight, Izuku watched blood dripped and pooled on the floor. As Izuku watched, his eyes widened with horror at the figure’s legs.

How this figure was standing so tall was a mystery. One that Izuku’s short-circuited brain couldn’t comprehend. It took so much in him not to scream and shout.

“W-What the fuck?” Izuku stuttered. The figure, seemingly hearing Izuku. Turned its head in response. With the first step, the thing took. Izuku shot out of his chair… His ears filled with the sound of bones crunching. Luckily for Izuku, his mouth wasn’t dry...and couldn’t help but scream.

Over the next couple of weeks, Izuku would be plagued with seeing random figures. It tore him apart. Izuku could barely call these figures human… It only brought him more pain to know that he had no idea what was going on.

All Might in the meantime of Izuku struggling with the hallucinations was doing his best to research what could be happening...and if it was a side-effect of One for All. According to him, there’s a very high chance that it was...and Izuku (in all honesty) was glad to hear at the minimum that he wasn’t crazy.

Months would go by. All Might found out that these hallucinations were something that his own mentor dealt with during her time in One for All. The older man spent his free time trying to find ways to help Izuku prevent them. After a certain point though. It was something that Izuku would get used to.

After weeks, the figures would become less terrifying...and more pitiful. Izuku could only hope that the predecessors before him weren’t in any pain even if they certainly looked the part. Sometimes Izuku wanted to reach out and touch the figures when they appeared.

They wouldn’t let him get close enough to do that though. Izuku could understand why they wouldn’t want to be touched if they were in pain.

Some nights, Izuku really wondered if he was going crazy. He couldn’t exactly talk to anyone except his mentor about the bullshit his quirk was putting him through. Maybe he’s just going crazy...that certainly would make sense with how wild his school year had been.

Izuku sat on the roof of Yuuei for lunch today. It wasn’t that he was in a particularly bad mood. He just wanted to get some fresh air, and really just take some time to breathe. Mr. Aizawa had really been working them hard. Not to mention the incidents that had been occurring since Izuku had started his hallucinations.

So here Izuku was, sitting on the rooftop, and enjoying his bowl of Katsudon. Personally, Izuku wouldn’t say it was better than his mom’s. Lunch Rush might be a pro hero, but he was no match for his mother’s cooking any day. Munching on his food. Izuku did enjoy himself and was honestly quite blissed out.

“. . .Nori?” A quiet voice called from in front of Izuku. The greenette looked up to see what seemed to be a woman. Long and stringy, the Black hair that framed her head hid what looked very much like a misshapen head.

“I-I’m not your Nori,” Izuku chuckled nervously.

“. . .Oh.” The voice croaked.

Izuku remembered how All Might talked about Nana's nickname for him. Nana called him Nori as a special nickname since everyone else would call him Toshi for short.

“It’s okay. I’m Izuku, and I think...you’re Nana. Am I right?” Izuku spoke calmly as the hallucination stared at him. The lights of what looked like silvery grey eyes staring back at him, before shaking in an approving motion.

“Well hi, Nana! C-Come sit!”

The husk of (who seemed to be) Nana dragged herself to sitting on the bench next to Izuku. While they weren’t close enough to touch. Izuku could feel the electric energy that the woman gave off in the decrepit form. Nana seemed to be the only one of the hallucinations who had the ability to speak to Izuku.

Izuku couldn’t tell if this was a blessing or a curse. As he would learn that Nana was definitely a character during his lunch break. Her chatter switched between understandable and muddled. Izuku could admit that enjoyed the conversation the two had that day on the rooftop a little too much.

One warm day, Izuku was hanging out in his room. All seven figures standing or laying around his room. It was like a weird quality time for him and his predecessors. The energy in Izuku’s room being a mixture of both emptiness and stagnant air but also buzzing with live energy.  Izuku couldn’t help but grin at the feelings of happiness under his skin.

One for All truly was something.
