I'll run to you

Summary:

The message comes just past midnight, after the rest of the household has gone to bed – Minho and Seungmin are both early to bed, early to rise, leaving Felix with his crepuscular tendencies to pass the moonlit hours with only his Switch for company.

They’re not supposed to meet like this. They’re not supposed to be meeting at all.

(or: Felix meets Chan in the middle of the night.)

Notes:

I bring you another bite sized AU bc apparently that's all I'm good for right now lolol

This is a little fic I wrote while drabbling with the wonderful @betheproof (who also beta'd this fic, thank you darling, MUAH) GO READ HER FIC it's quite wonderful ❤️You're in for a treat.

For the prompt: 'Hurry up, before we both regret it' (which is probably only present in a roundabout way haha)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The message comes just past midnight, after the rest of the household has gone to bed – Minho and Seungmin are both early to bed, early to rise, leaving Felix with his crepuscular tendencies to pass the moonlit hours with only his Switch for company.

Well, supposedly.

The notification comes through the game he’s been looping through for the past two hours despite the abject boredom, hoping specifically to see the little green ‘!’ in the top left corner of his screen.

Want to see you.

Grinning widely, Felix immediately rolls out of bed, silent as the grave but his cream-furred tail still thrashing in delight as he goes to grab a hoodie and a pair of sneakers.

They’re not supposed to meet like this. They’re not supposed to be meeting at all.

Swinging out of his bedroom window with practiced ease, Felix lands on the ground with a soft thud, ears perked up and listening for sounds of stirring within the house. Tick tock, tick tock, and when the house remains silent, he straightens up with a grin, tail swishing playfully as he turns to trot down the alleyway. He’ll be back before anyone notices he’s gone.

It’s easy, winding through the backways, eyes adjusting to the dim light, heading towards a rusted little playground, the one patch of struggling green tucked between an old apartment building and an abandoned laundromat.

Just as he’s about to step onto the scattered mulch, there’s hands on his hips and he’s pulled back against a body, solid and warm. Someone nuzzles against his cheek, eager and affectionate.

“Seems awfully late for such a cute little kitty like you to be wandering around,” a voice murmurs in his ear. “Lots of wild animals roving about at this time of night.”

“Oh, I dunno about that,” Felix says, unable to help the purr that rumbles up his chest as he twists around to come face to face with a wolf hybrid, all broad-shouldered and grinning cockily at him, hands bandaged from a fight and a bandaid over a still bruised nose. “I was supposed to be meeting a friend. He usually keeps them away.”

“Well,” Chan says, cocking his head to the side to regard Felix with amusement, fluffy black tail wagging lazily behind him. His hands are still on Felix’s hips as he sways them together to a silent beat. “He doesn’t seem to be here, what a loser.”

Felix pouts, tucking himself into Chan’s chest and batting his lashes at the wolf hybrid. “I know, whatever will I do?”

In return, Chan schools his expression into something solemn, despite the way the corner of his mouth is twitching, arms winding tighter around Felix’s tiny little waist. “I think you’ll just get eaten, little one.”

It’s all a great show as Felix pulls out the crocodile tears, effortlessly dramatic as he flings himself at Chan, tail lashing wildly behind him. “Oh no, save me, daddy!”

The facade breaks as they both dissolve into laughter, Chan careening backwards as Felix’s entire weight crashes into him, nearly taking them both down in one fell swoop, and they’re still giggling even when Felix catches Chan’s mouth up in a kiss, warm and needy and ever so adoring.

There’s something wildly hungry about the way they stagger back until Chan is backed up against the crumbling brick of the nearest building, one of Felix’s thighs hiked up in his grip as they kiss and kiss and kiss until they’re absolutely breathless.

It’s Felix who finally breaks away, though he doesn’t go very far, his sharp little fangs teasing at Chan’s plush lower lip. “Missed you,” he sighs out, so lovesick, so devoted.

Chan smiles, just as tender with love as he strokes his fingers against the delicate curve of Felix’s feline ears. “Missed you too,” he whispers, like it's a precious little secret just for the two of them. “Wanted to see you as soon as I could.”

Felix tries his best not to droop at the easy reminder that it’s been weeks since he last saw Chan, but he can’t help it, tail brushing against the ground as he rests against Chan’s shoulder. “Minho says I can’t go to the matches anymore.”

They’d fought about it after the last round of cage matches had gotten raided by the police – Felix had easily evaded notice, but when the string of arrests had made the morning news, Minho was quick to put his foot down.

“He’s just trying to keep you safe,” Chan says, and Felix hates that Chan can be so reasonable about the entire thing. “I promise, I’ll figure out a way to make him understand.”

And Felix doesn’t doubt Chan – Chan always has a plan, always tries to find a solution to every obstacle in their path – but there’s a sliver of worry lodged in Felix’s chest, cutting deeper every time Minho starts limiting Felix’s ability to visit Chan in the underground circuit.

Holding Felix close, Chan continues to sway gently, humming deep in his throat as he presses a fingertip against the furrow of Felix’s brow. “Don’t look so grim, my little good luck charm. It’s gonna be okay.”

There’s something about the tilt of his voice and the curve of his smile, something that Felix has gotten lost in time and time again, something that he’s been so helplessly drawn to since the day he met Chan – a glimpse across a crowded bar should have been fleeting, but it had been a magnetic pull, a cataclysmic event that had brought Felix orbiting around Chan like the sun.

“Kiss me again,” Felix whispers, and it’s pure escapism as he presses himself against Chan like an offering, like a gift for Chan to take and to keep forever. “Kiss me before it’s time to go.”

And Chan does, hand bruising on his thigh like a lover starved, kissing Felix until the lamplights begin to flicker out, until he eclipses Felix’s entire world, and all that is left is the blaze of the sun.

Notes:

I have been wanting to write an underground cage fighter AU for chanlix so maybe I should do that soon lol
