Wrapped

Summary:

"You haven't run by my window yet," Toshinori confessed. "Normally you do, in the morning on weekends, when you train. Is something wrong?"

"No!" Midoriya insisted. Something thumped from inside, like a chair tipped over. "Maybe. Um—this is stupid."

Work Text:

Toshinori made a fist and knocked on the door. There was a response—he could hear movement from the room beyond—but nothing that seemed like clear permission to enter.

"Midoriya, are you in there?"

"All Might?! Um, yes—I'm inside! In my room! Why are you at the dorms?"

"You haven't run by my window yet," Toshinori confessed. "Normally you do, in the morning on weekends, when you train. Is something wrong?"

"No!" Midoriya insisted. Something thumped from inside, like a chair tipped over. "Maybe. Um—this is stupid."

"I doubt that."

"Um. You can come in."

Toshinori turned the handle and opened the door. The room was full of his face, which was awkward, so he turned his gaze down. Thankfully, the floor was plain. Also Midoriya was laying on it—lengthwise at the edge of his bed, as if he had just fallen off. His comforter was wrapped around him, pinning his arms to his side.

Midoriya met his eyes and immediately looked away. "I'm stuck."

Toshinori bit his lips. It was not enough to hide his smirk.

"I mean I'm not actually stuck!" Midoriya explained, slightly frantic. His arms wriggled from within the blanket as he tried to gesture. "I could probably tear the blanket if I used my quirk but I don't want to destroy it and I should just be able to—I mean I thought this would be a fun idea and  I didn't plan for it to become this whole ordeal."

"Are you having fun?" Toshinori asked, eyebrows suspiciously high. What a prince of nonsense.

"Um, yes actually," Midoriya said. "I was very warm last night. Can you unroll me?"

Toshinori knelt down on the carpet. It was a slow process—his joints ached in ways they did not use to. But upon closer inspection of the situation, he discovered a problem. The blanket was spiraled the wrong way, and the end of it was still caught between the bed and the mattress. Rolling Midoriya out into the center of the room would just wrap the blanket tighter, but there was no space to push him back towards the bed.

"How did you even do this?" Toshinori asked.

"Well. Uh." Midoriya stuttered, "We were goofing off last night. And, um, Uraraka was wrapping us in blankets, and I guess I fell asleep while we were watching whatever show. Uh. Yeah.

That made sense. There was only one thing to do now. Creakily, Toshinori pushed himself back to his feet.

Midoriya blinked up at him. "Where are you going?

"If Young Uraraka got you into this," Toshinori explained, “Then she’s probably the only one who can get you out of it." And anyway, he had seen her downstairs on his way up.

“Oh, let me text her!" Midoriya said. He looked over towards his desk where his phone sat on top of some loose papers. Then his face fell. "Wait.”

"I'll be right back," Toshirnori said, and walked out into the hall.

Uraraka was still downstairs, sitting on the couch with Tsu and reading something on her phone. The tea beside her was still steaming. Toshinori was loath to disturb her, but he had a feeling that this would not take long. She noticed him as he stopped before her, looked up at him in rapt attention.

"Uraraka," he said, "Could I borrow you for just a moment? We need your assistance.”

“Of course!" she said, setting her phone on the side table and jumping to her feet. "Need to lift something?”

"Someone." Toshinori said, gesturing back towards the elevator.

They rode upstairs in silence, Uraraka fiddling with her skirt and staring at the wall. Now that he thought about it, Toshinori realized that the two of them had never really interacted one on one before. He knew what her combat skills were like, the kind of student that she was, but he did not really know her. She was one of Midoriya’s friends, right? He would have to ask him if he would like to invite her to one of their lunches.

When they reached Midoriya’s door, Uraraka’s forehead scrunched up in worry. “Is everything okay? You said you needed help with somebody?”

At that moment, the door burst open. Midoriya stood there, smiling triumphantly and notably not stuck in a blanket.

“Why do I even bother?” Toshinori blurted.

Uraraka peaked her head around the door and stared at the room beyond. The comforter was sprawled in the center of the floor. “Deku, did you need help with something?”

“No,” Midoriya said, shaking his head. “I already escaped—see, I realized that there was only room to roll the wrong way, but once I had done that there was space in the other direction for me to go the right way and unwind the blanket—“

“The blanket!” Uraraka exclaimed, “Were you still in that?”

Toshinori’s pocket buzzed, and he reached in for his phone. A timer had gone off.

Midoriya blushed. “I got, um, marginally stuck.”

Uraraka poked him in the chest. “You’re ridiculous.”

“I’m going to go eat,” Toshinori announced, putting his phone back in his pocket and starting back towards the elevator. “You two take care.”

“Stay and eat with us!” Midoriya exclaimed. “I mean—I haven’t had breakfast yet either, so we could all make it together downstairs.”

That did sound nice, though it probably would not work out. “I have dietary restrictions—“

“I know them!”

Uraraka giggled. “Yeah, he’s memorized like every fact about you.”

Midoriya blushed again and covered his face with his hands, but Toshinori only smiled. “Well then—yes, I’d like that.”
