Work Text:
Romantic relationships have never been your thing. It was always hard to understand intimacy and the appeal of it beyond the level short hugs and cuddling. Even the complexity of humans in general was almost too overbearing to understand. You always wanted love, but it was never in the same way other people expected or desired.
You always craved to be close to someone, though, and that someone walked into your life by chance. You held no expectations whatsoever, but he proved to have similar desires. He, too, was simply looking for someone to intertwine his soul with and pledge his loyalty and love for.
Suddenly, loving became easy. Intimacy in the small ways became easier once you saw it as two souls nestling together for comfort. His soul was the first you had came across that felt almost tangible. You didn't see him for his outer shell or appearance. Instead, you saw him for his habits, traits, and mannerisms that seemed to mirror and perfect your own without the need of words. If comfort and understanding were a person, it would be him.
He understood the small warning signs you put off, long before even you noticed them, that told him when you were needing a break from a situation, and you would notice the same with him. When he walks in the door at the end of a long day at work, you would notice his irritated face and immediately usher him over to sit beside you as you draw light designs on his back with your fingertips, and you would watch as you noticeably see his back muscles and face relax.
This isn't to say you two don't have fights and everything is perfect. In fact, because you two are so close, sometimes fights with him can be the most harsh and difficult fights you could ever have. With anyone else who knew you just as deeply, things could sour very fast, ending in a relationship breaking argument where they know exactly what to say to break you. But, mutual respect, love, and understanding between you two has always allowed for fights to end with one of the parties backing down and knowing when to stop even if it is irritating and hard to do.
You two will always bounce back, though, with the knowledge that you two are remorseful and don't mean to hurt each other in such a way. After all, two intertwined souls who pledge allegiance to each other will always float back to each other with a strong, almost magnetic, pull with ease.
