Work Text:
foolish
“Hmm?” Foolish barely pauses in his stride.
did you grab the clay
“Of course I did.”
can you check
Foolish huffs out a sigh and checks his Inventory. He has to pause to do so, awareness of its contents hovering almost directly in front of his face. “Yeah, see, it’s right there.”
thank you
“No problem.” Foolish starts walking again. He’s moving through the woods up to Las Nevadas, a journey that’s excruciatingly familiar now. He can start to see where his constant coming and going is wearing down the dirt. Eventually, others will see that this way is just a little more clear, and over time a path will form, and it will all be Foolish’s fault.
did Ideal tell you about what Quackity said the other day
Oh dear. Foolish has been trying to be the only system member to interact with that man. “He did not tell me.”
oh
well i’m not the one to say it
“Can you go get him…?” Fetching a headmate can be a lot to ask.
yeah one sec
Foolish can see the sign through the trees. It makes something within him shake.
Hey Foolish what’s up
“Silver said you spoke to Quackity?” Foolish keeps his voice low. There’s no one in sight, but there’s still the risk of someone sneaking up on him, and he does not want to be caught talking to himself.
Yeah I did
It wasn’t all that important I just felt awkward because I don’t know him
You’re the one who’s so careful about him being your person
He didn’t notice, if that’s what you’re worried about
“I’m not super worried about that.” It’s rare that anyone ever notices that Foolish isn’t fronting, and if they do, they never think to make the leap to multiplicity. “It’s more of…”
You want to keep him your person
“I don’t want the rest of you to get hurt. The easiest way to ensure that is that only I know him.” Foolish stares up at the hotel. He does not want to build today. “You know me. I do this.”
I do know you
The Totem System sits down on the edge of the fountain. Gentle water sprays their back. They rest their elbows on their knees and let their head drop, breathing in and out slowly.
Foolish?
I am so tired
I understand
I don’t want to build for him. I don’t want to work anymore. I want to stay in the summer home and sit on our beacon. I want to lie down at the bottom of the ocean. I will become a home to the fish.
We will become a home to the fish
We will become a home to the fish.
I can build today
You trust my ideas
What if Quackity stops by
Then I’ll make sure someone will come get you
Take some time, Foolish
.....
Okay. I will.
Give me one sec
Ideal takes several slow blinks as he steps fully into front. He lets himself stretch without a care in the world, arms out wide.
Thank you
“Anything for a headmate.” Ideal stands, cracks his back, and proceeds into the hotel.
Inside their head, Foolish takes a nap.
