Chapter Text
The members of class 1-A had gotten accustomed to life in the dorms pretty easily. They had learned each other's little idiosyncrasies, like how Todoroki preferred tea to coffee and how Bakugou turned in at 8 o’clock sharp. They learned how to live around one another and move through seamlessly. It showed in their training during team exercises, they knew how to identify if a classmate needed assistance and how to support them. They loved living in the dorms, they could keep a closer eye on each other.
But with improved training came advancements to quirks and other issues. They easily accommodated this in the dorms, allowing Kaminari to rest on the common room sofa after a particularly draining practice or silently dishing a larger serving for Momo at dinner. The class had no issue accommodating weird quirk changes such as the small dents in the walls from Kirishima getting too into a conversion or the few holes in the rugs from Ashido for the same reason.
The weirdest oddity of all though, was Midoriya Izuku.
They started noticing soon after the fight with the Shie Hassaikai, most assumed his odd actions were from the stress of the raid. Multiple times the night owl members of the class such as Jirou and Tokoyami spotted Midoriya holding full conversations in the kitchen...the empty kitchen. On a few of these occasions Midoriya noticed their presence and started a new conversation as if nothing had happened. They pass this off as him sleep walking or him trying to keep his racing thoughts straight post nightmare. Other times, such as when the class would hold movie and game nights to destress from that week’s rigorous training, Koda or Shoji would Midoriya staring off into space for long chunks of time only to be roused by a nudge or the mention of his name.
Class 1-A tossed this up as his mind getting ahead of him and that he was just allowing himself to catch up. Life in the dorms was easy for most. They moved around each other well and had a well worked out chore list to help with delegation. They rarely found reason to argue with this system, save for the few expected Bakugou outbursts. They enjoyed their time in the dorms; they could keep an eye on each other as needed, and step up help when others couldn't. So when these subtle moments of Midoriya seemingly slipping started to become worse they started to worry.

“Good morning everyone! I hope you all are ready for a great start to a fulfilling week!” Iida greets the kitchen.
“Absolutely bro!” Kirishima replies.
“If anyone wants, I have some rice and eggs read-.” Uraraka starts only to be cut off by Ashido as she and Kaminari wrestle with the cabinet searching for mugs.
“YES, you are my savior, thank you Uraraka”
More of the class filters in for coffee and breakfast as their early morning routine starts to overlap. Tokoyami, Momo, and Tsu chat idly about a book they had been passing around the dorm as the others try to wake up for the day. Bakugou slips in and out quickly as he can to avoid interaction on his way to the showers after a morning run. Midoridya follows him noisy through the front door also returning from his morning run.
“Deku! I didn’t hear you sneak out this morning. You want any eggs?” Uraraka asks.
“No thanks, we had a granola bar earlier, see you in class” he replies, greeting everyone as he makes his way upstairs to get ready.
“I didn't know Bakubro and Midobro ran together in the mornings.” Kirishima muses over his glass of juice.

Later that week the class was preparing for at least 3 different quizzes and an extensive project assigned for the next week. As the last bell of the day rang Midoriya was stopped by Tsu, Iida, and Uraraka in hopes of forming a study group for the English quiz assigned.
“Maybe later, we have a meeting set up with Midnight about that project.” Izuku rushes past his friends towards the exit.
“Who’s we?” Tsu asks a baffled Uraraka and Iida
In the dorms that evening they are no closer to finding out.
The three resolve to start watching their friend a little more closely after this odd interaction.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They start to notice more and more times that Izuku seemingly runs off to meet someone else but they have yet to meet this mystery person. The rest of the class also pick up on these oddities as well and decide to ask around.
They first confront the 1-C student Shinsou Hitoshi in hopes of finding that it was him Midoriya had been hanging out with. They find that Shinsou has not heard from Midoriya in over a month. After that lead is exhausted they realize they don't know another student he hangs out with. Drawing a blank they decide to do the only other logical thing, ask him.
“So Mido, who are you hanging out with all the time?” Ashido asks nonchalantly in the commons one night.
Izuku screws his face up thinking “No one?,” he shifts slightly from his position on the couch.
“But who’d you go study with the other day?” Ochaco follows up quickly.
“Yeah, and you said you were going to lunch early with someone yesterday,” Jirou asked from her spot by Momo.
“I have no idea what you're talking about.” Midoriya says, turning back to his journal.
Confused looks are passed around the space but they decide to let the line of questioning lie. They aren’t going to get anything out of him tonight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their confusion is set aside and their worry forgotten until a few weeks later when everything falls apart.
They are in class taking notes on Aizawa-sensei’s lecture when they hear the sound of a pencil snapping from the side of the room.
“Will you just shut up!” is heard, the whole class looks with a gasp to find Midoriya pulling his hair in frustration.
“Excuse me, Problem Child, would you like to say something?” Aizawa is irritated by his sudden outburst.
Izuku’s head snaps up like he was just realizing where he was.
“Of course not sir, we’re sorry,” he sinks back in the chair. “They were having a little disagreement on the validity of the text you were presenting.”
The room becomes cold as the class digests what was just said. Any trace of the previous irritation Aizawa felt is long gone, he slowly steps from behind the podium to approach Midoriya’s desk. Aizawa crouches down to meet the students' worried confused eyes. He knows something is wrong here, Aizawa is surprised to see Midoriya so unfazed by his odd admission.
“Midoriya, are you feeling okay? Do you need anything?”
Midoriya shakes his head, “Of course not sensei, we’re fine, it’s fine”
Aizawa looks a bit tentative as he tries to remember protocol for a student having a breakdown. This may be subtle in its presentation, but he cannot afford to have one of his kids completely fall apart in front of the rest.
“Would you like to follow me out into the hall?” The class looks on shaken as Aizawa-sensei gently leads Midoriya from his desk out into the hall.
“Did that just happen?” Kaminari whispers.
“What just happened?” Sero counters.
The class remains silent, all feeling slightly ill.
