Work Text:
Lin placed the last piece of the furniture packed into the cardboard on the floor of her and Kya's freshly bought apartment. They had already ordered most of the needed furniture and they were going to have it there soon but trips to shops like Ikea became their everyday thing. This time they came back with a regal with glass that Kya wanted to use to display a few things from her travels and of course, any extra storage was useful.
„So are we putting this together right away?” Kya asked, locking up the door after her girlfriend.
„Can we eat first? I'm starving” Lin raised an eyebrow as she was knocking off her shoes.
„But you weren't hungry twenty minutes ago when I wanted to eat at the Ikea” Kya crossed her arms.
„Food there is not that good plus it's overpriced and you wouldn't take that argument” Lin rolled her eyes as she straightened her shoes.
„Sometimes I hate that you know me so well” Kya scoffed.
They made their way into the main room of their apartment. The kitchen was fully equipped with two stools standing at the island that was separating the kitchen from the living room but said living room was still empty except two pretty much used out bean bag chairs they dragged there from Lin's childhood room and a short stool that had a laptop on it - leftovers from their last night's movie night.
„Are we ordering or making something?” Lin asked, leaning over the kitchen island.
Kya walked up to the fridge and opened it, maybe it wasn't empty but there was nothing they could cook out of this. „Ordering” she closed the fridge. „And we need to go grocery shopping”
„Noted” Lin reached to her back pocket for her phone. „What do you want?”
„Ikea”
„Kya...” Lin sighed.
„I'm kidding” Kya chuckled. „Burger King?” she crooked an eyebrow.
„Burger King it is” Lin tapped her phone a few times and then looked up at her girlfriend.
„The vegetarian whooper with fries and diet coke” Kya answered before Lin asked the question out loud.
„You mean the plant-based?”
„Potayto potahto” Kya rolled her eyes.
After another few taps on the screen, Lin hid the phone in her pocket.
„I could use a nap, I'm exhausted” Kya walked over to Lin and rested her forehead on the younger woman's shoulder.
„The food won't be here for another thirty minutes so we can go lay down” Lin wrapped an arm around Kya and brought her closer before kissing the top of her head.
„Yeah, let's go” Kya stepped away and took Lin's hand before leading her to their future bedroom.
The room was mostly empty except for a mattress laying on the floor and a few cardboard boxes up against the wall.
„This still looks so ridiculous” Lin chuckled as she let herself fall onto the mattress.
„The frame should be here next week, it's not a lot” Kya crawled over to Lin and rested her head on the younger woman's chest.
„Yeah, it isn't” Lin wrapped her arms around Kya, bringing her as close as possible.
They fell in comfortable silence for a second before Lin stirred and took out her phone again.
„What are you doing?” Kya asked sleepily.
„I'm setting an alarm, in case I fall asleep too, we have twenty minutes” Lin put her phone to the side and wrapped her arm around Kya once again.
The older woman relaxed into the touch of her girlfriend and adjusted her head on Lin's chest. Lin started playing with loose strands of Kya's hair that fell out of the braid her dark brown hair was secured in, helping her lover fall asleep even faster.
Without even noticing when she dozed off, Lin was woken up by an alarm going off right beside her. She turned it off and looked at Kya who didn't seem to be bothered by it at all what made her wonder how the hell did Kya manage to wake up on time when she was going to work. Lin reached for her phone and waited while still playing with Kya's hair, trying to not wake her up.
Soon their food arrived and they made a quick job of eating it before Lin started moving the pieces of their new furniture to the living room while Kya cleaned up after eating.
Not too long after Lin already unpacked everything and Kya sat beside her on their living room's floor. Lin opened up the instruction and was about to reach for the first piece when Kya stopped her.
„What are you doing?” Kya asked.
„Putting together the regal?” Lin more asked than answered.
Kya took the instruction from Lin's hand. „Instructions are for losers” and with those words, Kya threw the few pieces of paper behind her.
„There's no way you can put it all up without it” Lin protested, getting up to collect the pieces of paper.
„Yeah? Watch me then” Kya sent the younger woman a playful smile before taking some random pieces and starting to connect them.
„Kya-”
„No. Let me do it” Kya cut her off.
„Just, please... Don't break anything” Lin mumbled settling on one of the bean bags.
„I won't” Kya's eye roll was hearable in her voice, Lin didn't even need to see it.
A while later Kya seemed to be getting... somewhere. Although Lin was pretty sure something was wrong Kya insisted that she's got this and instructed the younger woman to shut up and let her do the work because she's distracting. Lin just shrugged it off and sunk into her bean bag and reached for her phone.
„Honey, can you help me out a little?” Kya asked.
Now you can be nice, Lin scoffed in her mind before looking up at her girlfriend. „What is it?” she went for a nicer option instead.
„Just help me lift that big thing” Kya pointed at the biggest piece before turning to Lin with the cutest smile she could put on her face. „Please”
Lin rolled her eyes and got off the bean bag. She listened to whatever Kya told her to do, not correcting her lover taking all of the self-control she had. It all didn't make any sense.
Once the piece was in place (according to Kya) Lin sat there holding it up since it was just attached to another, a way smaller piece that probably would be either the top or the bottom of the regal.
„Ok, let it go now so we can turn it” Kya ordered.
„It will break if I let it go” Lin protested.
„It won't. Listen to me, please”
„It will-”
„Lin” Kya scolded.
„Fine” Lin let go of the piece and got up, deciding to just go back to watching from afar.
„See? It's all-”
A crack.
Kya slowly turned to the pieces of the regal on the floor, seeing the longer part broken in half.
Shit.
„Well, I'm not buying Ikea furniture again” Kya looked over at Lin and stared at her for a second before they both broke into laughter. „When will I learn to listen to you?” the older woman asked.
„Probably never but that makes it all fun” Lin chuckled.
„What are we doing with it now?” Kya asked.
„You'll go buy the missing piece”
„Me?” Kya raised an eyebrow.
„Yeah” Lin kneeled next to her girlfriend and turned her to face her by her chin. „Since you're such a miss independent” she kissed Kya's lips softly before taking off to their bedroom. „Good luck!” she called before closing the door behind her.
