“Stiles, who is this?” John asked, seeing the puppy in Stiles’ arms as he and Derek arrived at the house for dinner.
“This is your grandson, Shadow. Do you want to say hello, pup?” Stiles asked, lifting the puppy up to his face.
Shadow looked at John and let out a little bark, his whole body shaking as his tail wagged. Derek closed the door behind them and Stiles put Shadow down. John couldn’t help but smile as the puppy immediately ran over and sniffed at him. When he whined and pawed at his leg, John sighed and picked him up.
“Hello, Shadow. You are quite cute. When did you adopt a dog?” He directed the last part of his sentence to his son and his boyfriend.
“Stiles brought him home two weeks ago. He found him on the side of the road and decided that he was our new child. I couldn’t say no to two puppy dog eyes,” Derek said, accepting the hug that John offered.
“That sounds about right. Hello, son of mine.”
Stiles smiled and hugged his dad. Shadow immediately started licking at Stiles’ face, making both Stilinski men laugh.
“Alright, Daddio, show us to the food. Derek is starving, but he is too polite to say anything.”
Derek let out a low growl, making Stiles stick his tongue out at him.

Lydia was surprised to see Stiles asleep on the couch, Shadow laying on his chest. It wasn’t that uncommon for them to find the puppy with Stiles, but she had never seen her friend look so tired while actually sleeping.
“Please don’t wake him. We had a rough night and this is the first time he’s napped peacefully all day,” Derek said softly as he came to stand next to her.
“Rough night?”
“The most recent victim from whatever is in town reminded Stiles too much of Allison. He had terrible nightmares all night, and nothing would soothe him. Thankfully, Shadow finally for him calm enough for him to rest. Come on, his research is upstairs.”
Neither commented when they came back down and found Issac curled up with Stiles, both sleeping soundly with Shadow between them.
“So, tell me about the pup,” Lydia said, looking at the three of them.
“Shadow was on the side of the road with his dead mother when Stiles found him. He brought him home, told me he was our baby, and I couldn’t say no. Now I have two things that won’t lay still at night, and Stiles has a little shadow that makes sure that he is never lost in his thoughts.”
Derek saw the puppy nose at Stiles’ neck as he started to wake. Stiles sighed and snuggled back down, letting out snores. Isaac started doing the same, making both Lydia and Derek chuckle.

Deaton glared at the little puppy that stood in front of Derek’s door when he pulled it open. It was growling and barking, not letting him step foot into the house. Stiles, who was in the kitchen, turned to look at him and hollered for Derek that there was someone at the door.
“Shadow, go get Stiles. Good boy, protecting him,” Derek said, looking down at the puppy.
Shadow yipped, rubbed against Derek’s leg and hopped off to the kitchen.
“I see you got a new attack dog,” Deaton said, stepping over the doorframe.
He felt wards activate, making him confused. Stiles didn’t know about the full extent of his Spark, he had made sure of that. But, who made the wards that were trying to tug at him and get him out?
“Shadow is a good boy, he is very protective of Stiles. Why are you here? You usually ask us to come to the clinic if you want to talk about something.”
Derek stood in the middle of the room, not wanting Deaton to get too close to Stiles.
“I needed to check on Mr. Stilinski. Scott said that he had been having nightmares again, and I wanted to make sure…”
“Make sure what? That I’m not possessed again?” Stiles said, coming to stand right behind Derek.
The Alpha wouldn’t let him stand beside him, Stiles knew, even with Shadow in his arms. He could feel the anger and tension coming off of Derek in waves, even without the help of the pack bond.
“Exactly. You couldn’t tell last time, and we don’t know if we actually banished it.” Deaton said, looking at the younger man with a concerned look.
“Get out,” Derek growled.
“What?” Deaton looked shocked.
“Get out. You came in here and you are acting like I don’t know how to tell if my boyfriend is okay or not. I would know if he was possessed, I know him better than anyone, even Scott McCall. Get out of our house or I will remove you,” Derek growled, his eyes flashing red.
Deaton bowed his head and walked out the open door. As soon as they heard the elevator start going down, Stiles was wrapped in Derek’s arms, his face buried in his neck.
“Real, this is real,” He whispered to himself, feeling Shadow whine and nose at his neck.
“I’m real, baby, it’s okay. You aren’t possessed and you will be fine. Everyone has nightmares, it’s okay,” Derek soothed, holding him tight.

Melissa couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face as Stiles came into the hospital, food in hand. He had made the habit of bringing her food when he knew she was working overtime. What she wasn’t expecting was the puppy sleeping in his other arm, nose pressed into his neck.
“Thank you, dear. Who is this little one?”
Stiles smiled.
“This is Shadow. He’s mine and Derek’s baby. He doesn’t like to leave me alone, so he goes everywhere with me.”
Shadow moved his head and looked at Melissa. He let out a small yip and his tail wagged as she scratched his head.
“He is so cute. Does he get along with Derek, with the whole wolf thing?”
“Oh yeah, he loves Derek. He would love Derek even more if he let him sleep with us every night, not just on the nights that we have nightmares.”
Melissa smiled, reaching up to cup his face. He looked better than he had, the bags under his eyes weren’t as dark and he had a genuine light in his eyes again.
“They are good for you, the both of them.”
Stiles smiled at that statement.
“They really are.”
