Trust

Summary:

Chris was quiet for a little while before turning off the stove so his full attention was on Peter. “Do you not trust me anymore?”

“No. Right now I don’t. Not if you don’t tell me who that was.”

Notes:

This is a work for the Petopher Events 2021 for the months of August.

Day 3 - Trust

Work Text:

“Who was that?“ Peter frowned as he walked into the apartment and straight into the kitchen where Chris was, glaring at his very surprised looking boyfriend.

“Who was who?”, he asked, only making Peter glare at him even more.

“The guy? That just walked out of our apartment! Chris, don’t act dumb. I saw him and I can literally still smell him in here.”

Chris groaned to himself. “No one,” he just said and turned his attention back to the stove where he was cooking dinner for him and Peter. “How was your day, love?”, Chris asked to change the topic.

“Christopher!”, Peter snapped.

Turning back around, Chris looked at him. “Yes?”

“Who. Was. The Guy?!”, Peter asked again.

Very slowly Chris shook his head. “It’s not important, Peter,” he just said as he looked at his boyfriend.

“It is important to me!” Peter took a step back when Chris reached out for him. “If it’s not important then you could just tell me,” the werewolf insisted. “So? I’m asking again, who was the guy?”

Chris was quiet for a little while before turning off the stove so his full attention was on Peter. “Do you not trust me anymore?”

“No. Right now I don’t. Not if you don’t tell me who that was.”

“Peter.” Chris sighed and went to  sit down at the kitchen table.

Peter stayed right where he was, not for one second considering to sit down with Chris. “Just tell me. I thought we didn’t have any secrets from each other. Why are you making such a big deal out of telling me?” Peter crossed his arms in front of his chest.

Chris sighed.

“Talk to me, Christopher.”

“I don’t know what to say. Apparently you don’t trust me anymore. Do you seriously think that I would ever cheat on you? In our own home at that?! God, Peter! I love you way too much to ever hurt you like that.”

Peter’s features softened a little bit and suddenly he looked confused. “What?”

“I never cheated on you and I never will. I love you!”

His words didn’t seem to change anything about Peter’s expression though. “Chris,” Peter said very slowly. “Chris, that’s not what I thought. No. That’s not the reason I was asking either.”

Now Chris was the one that looked confused. “What? Then why were you asking?” He frowned a little, not able to make any sense of what Peter was saying. “And why are you getting so mad if you didn’t think I cheated on you?” Chris got back out of his chair.

“Because the guy looked extremely shady. My first thought was that you are falling back into old habits and I can’t have that in my house. So tell me now – and I’m only going to ask you once, are you dealing weapons again?”

For a moment Chris stared at Peter with wide eyes then suddenly started to laugh.

“This is not funny, Christopher! Answer my question.”

“No. No, I’m definitely not. I promise!”, Chris said but couldn’t stop himself from chuckling. “You know I will never get back into my father’s business. Never!”

Peter sighed but nodded. Chris was saying the truth, he could hear it in his heartbeat. “I’m sorry. I just panicked,” he said as he stepped over towards Chris to wrap his arms around the other man.

“I know but I would never do any of that to you. You know, I love you, right?”

Peter nodded. “I know. And I love you too.”

“Good.” Chris smiled. “And do you also still trust me?”

Peter smiled back at him. “With my life.”
