Marinette looked around furtively, hoping that Chat would appear out of somewhere. She would have preferred it if she could wait for him to change Miraculouses before she returned to battle.
But she was running out of time and the akuma was attacking. She ducked, trying to avoid a blow and then she felt a body slam into her. The cry of "Venom!" echoed in her ear and she fully expected to see the villain freeze.
Except that this was when another blow sent them tumbling on the ground and to her horror Marinette felt a sharp sting in her arm and she became numb.
She couldn't move, couldn't speak, nothing. Chat moved off her with a string of apologies but then had to ward off the akuma again. Thank God that he was a better fighter than her, because he managed to throw the akuma away and run back to her to scoop her unmoving form in his arm and then use his stinger to take them away.
She was left behind a chimney just as her earrings beeped and Chat shot her a look full of remorse before going away.
A few second later the pressure that held her still disappeared and she knew he'd detransformed.
Marinette gasped, swaying on the spot. She was sure she never wanted to experience the power of the bee first hand again.
"Ugh, " she groaned as her transformation wore off.
"I'm so sorry, m'lady, I was sure I had the akuma and totally didn't expect to sting you."
"I know, it was just bad luck," she sighed as she handed a cookie to Tikki. "You can send Pollen over, I'm sure you don't have honey on you but she can share with Tikki."
"Thank you."
"I'm impressed," she laughed. "I was there, in your arms, paralysed and at your mercy and you didn't try anything."
"You wound me, m'lady! I would never! Whatever it is I want to do with you, if you're there as anything less than an eager participant, it would be a failure."
She knew, of course, that he could flirt and joke but never overstep the mark with her. But it was still nice to see this confirmed.
Then again, his words made her imagine all kinds of things he wanted to do with her and how much eager she would be to take part in them.
"Thank you, I appreciate it," she cleared her throat.
"But now you missed The Drone's grande entrance," he said, sounding disappointed.
"Drone?" She snorted. "Drones don't sting as far as I know, " she reminded him.
"Well, this one does. Anything to protect my queen."
"Your what?" More laughter bubbled up in her.
"My queen. M'lady. You."
"I expect you to act like some scary warrior, name yourself something like "The poison stinger" or something equally menacing and you go for the lowest in hierarchy, the useless drone."
"Ha! I'll have you know that bees would be lost without drones."
While they talked, their kwamis got ready and now they could transform again.
"Why is that?" Marinette asked as she became Ladybug again.
"Because, you need me to please you and I will. Drones may be useful for one thing only but we do it well." He declared with a wink as he jumped in front of her. He wasn't holding back, standing tall and proud and.. flexing for her.
She felt the urge to facepalm but her eyes were glued to him, curiosity getting the best of her. His mask was black but unlike when he was Chat Noir, his eyes were his normal human eyes she knew from his time as Mister Bug. Black also dominated his suit, with only thin golden lines adding accents along his arms and legs.
She'd always known that black was his colour, but she hadn't expected that he could rock it in spandex the way he did in leather. Or even better, a treacherous voice added.
Once she was done drooling over him, because damn, he looked too hot, she returned to his words. And while she felt a bit hot under the collar, she laughed.
"You came up with this whole thing - name, suit, everything, only to present yourself as my sex slave or something?" She asked, between guffows.
"Nuh-uh, don't be so crass, m'lady. Drones pleasure their queen and are happy to serve."
She rolled her eyes. He was true to form.
"You're ridiculous."
"And I take pride in it," he grinned. "But I mean it, if you need me, it would be my pleasure. And yours."
There was something obscene about his smile now and in spite of how funny he was, she couldn't help letting her eyes dance all over his fine form again, making her feel tingles all over. She was too tempted to accept the offer.
"Let's go," she barked out instead, looking for a distraction.
"Of course, m'lady." He bowed and unfurled his stinger.
"And be more careful," she cautioned.
"I will bee," he smirked and leapt away, leaving her to grumble.
Thankfully, there were no more mishaps and they were done in no time.
"You did well," she told Chat. (She refused to think of him as anything else.) He grinned and she could almost imagine him wagging an imaginary tail at the praise.
But he also looked as gorgeous as ever. The gold in his suit was sparkling in the sunlight as if he was covered in pollen, his naturally golden hair only adding to the effect. The truth was he looked rather regal. A far cry from the servant he acted like. He was her equal.
She motioned for him to move closer. Then she rose on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek, for a second losing herself in the hint of stubble under her lips and the whiff of cologne that made her mouth water.
"I will think about your offer," she said as she pulled back, realising that she sounded a little breathless. His eyes were burning like green flames as he looked at her, not hiding his desire at all.
She bit her lip, turned around and with a deliberate sway of her hips walked away.
"You'll give me back the Miraculous next time," she called over her shoulder. "Unless I need you in the meantime."
She smiled to herself as she headed home. Maybe she would get to see what the eager to please bee had to offer. And she would be just as eager as well.
