Work Text:
You run nervously through your hair, you're already running late, but you can't survive in college without your coffee, so you stand here, in line, in your favorite cafe, and wait.
Your gaze flies to the clock again and again, but even if the minutes pass, the line still doesn't move faster, and especially today it was important to be on time.
Sighing, you look around, if things are going even slower, you probably have to go without your coffee.
A few minutes and an inner conflict later, you can finally place your order. Fortunately for you, it goes very quickly and before you know it, you are heading for the exit with your coffee mug.
Your gaze flies to the clock one last time, you might still be able to do it, provided you hurry up. Fortunately, you always plan in more time than you actually needed.
Just as you are throwing your gaze forward again, someone is holding you tight.
"Hey careful," said the voice calmly.
You look around confused, you almost ran into a group of people.
You look apologetically at the man who has let go of you in the meantime.
His dark hair, his suit, and his perfect smile spread a feeling of comfort and when you look into his eyes, you can't help but smile.
"Aaron." You greet him with a grin.
"(Y / N), how are you, I haven't seen you in a long time," he replies.
"Well, I ..." you pause, actually you should be at the university.
"I'm late, but ..." you pull a small piece of paper out of your pocket and quickly steal a pen from the table next to you.
You scribble your number on it and give it to Aaron. "In case I'm needed again or if you might feel like having a coffee." You said before you ran around the next corner in the direction of the university.
"In case I´m needed again?" Asked Morgan, amused.
"She used to take care of Jack," he informed him.
"Ah exactly and nothing else?" He teased with a laugh.
"I know her parents," he said seriously now.
"I had to drive her away from a party because she was drunk so that she wouldn't get into trouble because she was still underage," he said seriously.
"Was, now she's at least 25." Morgan continued.
“Yes, and still a lot younger than me. This conversation is over, ”he said, now slightly irritated.
Morgan just grinned before standing in line with his boss.
Tired you let yourself fall on the bed, not only that you were late, but you also gave your number to Aaron Hotchner, with the words in case I am needed.
You bury your face in a pillow, flirting really wasn't your forte.
Did you even want to flirt? Maybe. But you took care of his son, you called him Mr. Hotchner for the first few months.
Maybe you really just wanted to offer your babysitting services, after all, his wife had died and he would surely need your help with his job. Yes you wanted to help
But what about the coffee? A date? Rather not. Maybe to really exchange, it was certainly interesting to hear what he had experienced in recent years.
Sighing, you sit up, it doesn't matter. What happened happened. Maybe he won't answer at all.
After two days you were finally sure that he would not call you.
You walk into your apartment, unsure if it´s disappointing you or not. You throw your key on the chest of drawers and purposefully run to the refrigerator.
You open it and look to see what's inside, actually you don't want anything special, but if something tasty was found, why not.
Just as you shut the fridge in disappointment, your cell phone rings.
"(Y / N), hello." You answer.
"Hey (Y / N) this is Aaron Hotchner."
"Hey." A slight nervousness develops.
“I know it comes suddenly, but could you pick up Jack from school? His aunt should take care of him, but she is sick and I want to spare her the extra stress. I know you're probably too busy… ”you interrupt him. "Of course I'll get Jack." You assure him enthusiastically.
He gives you the name of the school and assures you that the school has been informed that you are picking up Jack.
You have agreed that you will also stay overnight, as Aaron did not yet know when he would be back.
He had given the elderly lady across the street a spare key that you should use to get into the house.
With a grin on your face, you pack a small bag. Things to sleep in, toothbrushes, brushes, books from university, and everything else you would need, and then you had to go.
You put the bag in the trunk of your car, which you use less often because the university is only a few streets away, and drive off.
Unsure whether you can park here, you stop. It sure wouldn't take long, a few minutes at the most.
You lock your car and walk towards the school, it takes a while to find your way to the office, but somehow you found your way. You knock as quietly as possible and as loudly as necessary.
"Yes please." Comes a voice.
You enter "Hello, I'm (Y / N) (L / N), I'm supposed to pick up Jack Hotchner." You explain in a friendly manner.
“Ah yes, Mr. Hotchner informed us about it. I'll show you the classroom. ”The lady said friendly and got up from her chair.
You walk through a few corridors and finally stop in front of a door. "Lessons will be over in a few minutes, you can just wait here," she explains, before turning on her heel and disappearing again.
Nervously you tap your fingers on your hand, would Jack recognize you? Would he even go with you if you weren't his aunt? What would you even make to eat? Spaghetti? At least that's what you've always done before, and then? Homework, then you could still do a lot for the university. And then? But before you could think about anything else, the doorbell rang. Shortly afterward, the students ran out of the class.
A little boy with black hair stopped in the middle of the hall and looked around.
"Jack?" You tried kindly.
Immediately the little one turned around and a smile spread.
"Ace?" He asked happily before walking up to you and throwing himself into your arms.
He used to have problems pronouncing your name, but Ace worked. At some point, he got into the habit of calling you that and you weren't about to correct him.
"Hey, sunshine. Man, I haven't seen you in half an eternity. Let me look at you. ”You had already crouched down when he came running. Now you have taken a close look at it. "You grew up."
He nods too proudly.
"Mind if I make spaghetti today?" You ask with a laugh as you go to the car.
He didn't mind and although he needed a thorough cleaning afterward, next time you would cook spaghetti again if there was a next time.
So there was a bath, the homework, then you played together with his action figures, which was followed by a discussion about who was the best superhero. Jack insisted it was Captain America what you were trying to remember for his birthday while you insisted it was Hulk. Even if the movie didn't really appeal to you, you still liked Mark Ruffalo.
At some point you decided to watch a movie and while you were actually watching the movie, Jack closed his eyes. It broke your heart, but unfortunately, you had to wake him up.
You took him to the bathroom, you brushed your teeth together, then you got him ready for bed and even let you read him something before he finally fell asleep.
Happy about how well you got through the day, you sat down at the kitchen table and took out some books.
You couldn't exactly say how much time had passed, somehow you got lost in the books, you only looked up when a door opened and you could hear steps.
"Hey." Aaron greeted you softly, he didn't want to wake Jack.
"Hey, how was your day?" You asked gently.
"We have him." He avoided the conversation.
"We still have spaghetti left if you like?"
"Gladly." While he glanced into his son's room, you warmed him up with something to eat and put it on the table for him.
While he was eating you sat down with him and talked. He asked what you were doing now, what your plans were and you carefully asked how he was.
Every personal question you asked was skillfully bypassed by him.
But after the second glass of wine, which you somehow talked him about, did it loosen up.
"I can't believe I'm sitting in my kitchen with you drinking wine," he said at some point, amused.
"Hey, now I'm even allowed to drink legally." You defended yourself, amused.
“Oh, I know that. After I called you, Morgan started his usual taunts. He usually directs this at Reid. ”He said with a small smile.
"taunts?" You asked.
“Yes, he was standing next to me in the cafe and really wanted to know who you are. I told him that I have known you since you were 16 and since then he has not missed an opportunity to tell me that you are no longer 16, ”he explained with a slight red on his cheeks.
"I really am not anymore," you noted quietly before taking a sip of your glass.
"Thanks for taking care of Jack today." Aaron started another conversation.
"Always." You assured him before you put down your empty glass. You got up yawning, for you there was no reason to stay any longer. "Let me know when I can help out again because I had fun today." You started saying goodbye.
"I will." He assured you before he also got up to show you to the door.
On the way to the door, you collect your things and put them back in your pocket.
"See you soon, I guess?" You asked while you were standing in front of the door.
"Yes, probably," he said softly, staring at your lips a little too long.
You found yourself staring at his.
"Okay, see you then." You tried to say goodbye again, but you didn't move. Your eyes were still on his lips.
"Definitely," he assured you before moving a little closer.
Your back was already touching the door, so you just leaned against it.
"I'm not 16," you repeat your words and before you know it he kissed you.
He put his hands on your cheek and pulled you closer to himself.
You threw your arms around his neck.
He kept pressing you against the door and without you noticing, your legs were wrapped around his waist. His hands were now on your bum and so he carried you into his bedroom.
