Chapter 3: eternal light and joy. together again.

Summary:

Together yet again, they can finally restore peace and happiness.

Chapter Text

Empty.

Hollow.

Alone.

Dream no longer felt emotions; happiness; joy. A heavy burden of dread, gloom, and grief carried itself above blond - day in, day out. Always there, always watching, almost like the sun - perhaps even like a planet. Perhaps even Venus.

All Dream ever wanted after that day was his happiness, his light - everything bright. He wanted George

The days following George’s death were like living in an eternal, burning, blazing abyss. Mirages of George would present themselves to Dream, he was only steps away from his once upon a time, soulmate.

But this wasn’t a ‘Once upon a time, in a land far, far away’ kind of story, this was far from that, Dream could only pray to gods he wasn’t sure even existed, that this was some horrible nightmare. Like sleep paralysis. Death pinning him to his bed - unable to escape.

Vacant sketches of George were placed around Dream’s brain - a psychological cell, one in which he could not escape. His first thoughts in the morning were George, any small man with brunet hair reminded him of George, closing his eyes - George.

Every hour was torture.

Pain.

A dozen pills washed down his throat. An out. His way out. All he wanted was him. He would do anything just to see the love of his life one last time, if that meant this, that’s what he’d do. If that death was the last way he could see him, so be it. He was on a one-way journey into the light.

An overwhelming dizziness struck him, a pounding in his head, an unsteady beat in his chest. This was it, this was his out - his out to be happy once again. His light. His love. His Earth. His Venus. His everything.

Lines and dots and colour danced across his vision, plastering the white tiles of the ever-fading bathroom. Eyelids stuttering. Limbs slowly relaxing. Mind going numb. Light from above seeped out of his field of sight. Pain finally disappearing. Every sense muted. Darkness engulfed his whole being.

He was about to be at peace.

A sudden thump crawled its way into his ears, waves of bangs flooded his mind. Someone knew he was in there, but it was too late. There was nothing that could be done to save him anymore, the only way he could be saved was leaving. Leaving to see him. Leaving to see George.

His planets were about to realign with one another, be perfectly in sync, be there on the dullest days, be together again. The sun. The Earth. The moon. Venus. All of them about to fall back into place, a place in which they could be happy. It was going to be perfect.

Or so Dream thought.

Once an endless abyss of sin, corruption, an absence of light flushed over him, he saw him. He saw  George.

Bars of steel blocked any access to George, he was so close yet so far. A look of  disappointment painted George’s face an ugly shade of maroon. He looked so different, yet still the same; still beautiful. Dream tried to reach out to touch George’s face, to hold him yet again. However, the stupid bars stopped him from being allowed to get close enough to his once-gone soulmate.

“I told you to be happy, to move on.” A voice let itself be heard from behind the separation. “What are you doing here, Dream?”

A pang of guilt hit his heart more than anything had ever. He was there for George, and now he was upset to see him? Didn’t George want to see Dream again? What if George had lied, he never loved Dream, he left because of him?

“I’m not mad, I’m just upset. I missed you and I couldn’t way until the day we were in each other's embrace again, but why are you here? Who hurt you?” George sounded compassionate and caring, an undertone of sadness.

”You did, George. The day it happened and you were gone, I didn’t want to be there, in hell, any longer. I’m here for you, to see you, and hold you, and touch you, and…” an almost endless ramble fell from his lips as he let his mind full of thoughts slip out.

Suddenly, the bars separating the pair, disappeared. Gone.

Almost immediately Dream ran forward to pull George into a tight, warm embrace, one he had been longing for ever since that day. Minutes seemed like hours between the lovers’ inseparable touch.

“I love you so, so much. Never leave me again, George. You are everything I need in life.” Nimble fingers pushed coffee brown hair behind blushing ears.

“I am so sorry for leaving you, I truly am but that life was causing more hurt than happiness. I’m happy here now, no more pain, no more suffering. I am at peace and have the love of my life here with me to share this eternal joy. I will always be your side, never once will I let you go again. Me and you are going to only look back on the good times while making new ones in the same moment. We are together forever, nothing is separating us again, ever. I love you more than you could ever imagine, Dream.”

Staring into the deep hazel, mixed with gold flecks, eyes, a comfortable silence blanketed over the couple.

Together again. In another life. A life without an end. Intoxicated with the warmth and beauty of each other.

Never again would they leave each other.
