Kakashi never felt too bothered by the fact he was, well, a bit smaller than the rest of the ANBU agents. He was one of the most skilled shinobi from his age range - perhaps that was the reason why he was allowed in the Konoha’s Black Ops as an Omega.
At least during the missions, no one made any comments. But as soon as Kakashi was back in the village, strolling through the streets of Konoha without his ANBU gear, some shinobi were sure to give him trouble.
He was thinking about what groceries to buy, walking at a slow pace when two ninja - Alphas the silver-haired Omega knew very well - got in his way.
“Kakashi, have you thought about who to spend your next heat with?” Genma started, looking at Kakashi with a light smirk on his face.
It was the same thing every damn time. Kakashi knew it was partially the fault of his famed pretty face and lithe build. Not every Alpha was looking for a mate, a lot of them bothered the Omega just to get the chance to spend a few days in bed with him.
“Yes, and the answer is always the same.” Kakashi rolled his eyes. It was getting slowly annoying. And even if he wanted a companion to ease his heat days, he had only one person in mind. But they had never expressed any deeper interest in him besides friendship, so he got used to swallowing those feelings down.
“Doesn’t it get frustrating? You know an Alpha could help you.” Raido mirrored Genma’s suspicious smile.
It did get frustrating. And Kakashi knew perfectly well that with an Alpha, he’d satisfy his needs faster and better. But he was not looking for a mate among the two men standing in front of him.
“Leave me alone,” he murmured. “I’m not budging.”
“You’re insufferable,” Genma scoffed. “You keep driving all the unmated Alphas in the village insane with your scent.”
“W-what scent…?” Kakashi’s eyes widened a bit. He’d been so used to wearing scent patches to cover any signs of being an Omega during missions. He was pretty sure he was still wearing them as he hadn’t fully changed out of the ANBU outfit.
“Kakashi!” A loud female voice boomed from behind him and the silver-haired Omega felt relieved at that sound. “Oh- Hi, Genma, Raido. What do you want from Kakashi?”
There was something satisfying in seeing how the two Alphas grimaced when they saw Obito towering behind Kakashi. They knew they had no chance of convincing the Omega anymore.
“Hi, Obito.” Kakashi turned on his heel to wave at his friend. “No missions for today?”
“No, I was just helping Sensei with the Hokage duties.” Obito grinned and wrapped one arm around Kakashi’s shoulders to pull him in closer.
Kakashi was already small compared to Alphas. But with Obito, who was the biggest female Alpha in Konoha and most likely one of the tallest Alphas in the village, he looked tiny. He didn’t mind that at all. In fact, there was something comforting about it. Obito seemed to enjoy him being close, too.
“So what are you guys talking about, hmm?”
“You know, just… The usual,” Raido chuckled nervously. Obito’s confidence near Kakashi was enough to make even other Alphas shy away.
“Yeah,” Kakashi bit back with bitterness in his voice. “The usual asking me who I’m going to spend my heat with.”
“Because you’ve turned down nearly every male Alpha in Konoha.” Genma shrugged as if they weren’t doing anything wrong by bothering him.
“Maybe he doesn’t want a male Alpha,” Obito cut in. “I mean, if you want to, Kakashi… I could help?”
The suggestion came so out of the blue that the silver-haired Omega felt his cheeks burn up. He thanked the face mask covering the blush. He couldn’t look Obito in the eyes, her suggestion threw him off too much.
It was true that Obito was the only Alpha Kakashi would ever consider spending his heat with. But he never knew how to bring it up. It was much more common for male Omegas to mate with male Alphas, while female Alphas claimed female Omegas. Kakashi had always assumed Obito would pick Rin as his mate.
“I… would like that,” he whispered in response.
Genma and Raido stared at him like Kakashi had just grown a second head.
“But-”
“You can’t just-”
“He can, and he will.” Obito interrupted them. “It’s Kakashi’s choice to make. Go bother some other Omegas.”
When they tried protesting again, Obito just sighed and the silver-haired man felt her second arm around his waist until he was lifted into a bridal-style carry.
“O-Obito?!” Kakashi shrieked, embarrassed and shocked by the entire situation.
“Come, you must be tired after the mission. We can get some noodles.” Obito had the response ready.
They left the two baffled shinobi and Obito carried Kakashi home. Although it was a bit shameful to be just carried by his friend, the silver-haired Omega had a different matter on his mind that was making him feel embarrassed.
“Obito… D-do I smell differently?” He asked, unsure.
“Differently?” The Alpha took a whiff and shook her head. Her long hair always flowed so nicely whenever she did that. “No, it’s the same sweet scent as always.”
“What do you mean, always?” Kakashi gulped.
“You always smell so nice.” Obito smiled brightly. “It’s comforting, you know? And maybe that’s the reason I made you sleep over at my place sometimes.”
The silver-haired Omega sputtered and ended up going silent. So he’d been subconsciously giving Obito signals that he’d want her as his mate, and his friend had never noticed.
The absurdity of it made him snort. When Obito raised a curious eyebrow at him, Kakashi just flicked her nose. When she pouted, he chuckled again.
“I’ll give you a kiss later for that.”
