Work Text:
Peter opened up his laptop with a sigh. With the world practically on lockdown, Midtown Tech, like almost all other schools, decided to move to virtual learning for the safety of their students and staff. Today was the first day of classes online.
With a laptop set up, Peter logged into the video conference, waiting for Mr. Harrington to begin. Peter looked around, surveying the scene behind him. Since May was a nurse and now considered a front line worker to the virus, they had both decided the best way to keep Peter safe was for him to move in to Tony’s cabin for the time being. None of them knew how Peter’s mutation would affect him if he came in contact with the virus, so they all wanted to be on the safe side and keep any possible exposures to an absolute minimum.
The Stark Cabin was in a remote location. With the two adult Starks able to work remotely and having all shopping delivered, this was the safest location possible for Peter.
While Peter missed May fiercely and was always worried about her being in close contact with so many infected individuals, he couldn’t deny that being out in the secluded cabin by the lake with Tony, Pepper, and Morgan was amazing.
One downside that he was quickly realizing what is that his classmates with surly notice his different surroundings. Many of them were on the academic decathlon team with him and had been to his apartment for study sessions, meaning they knew exactly what the inside of his apartment looked like, and this was not it.
Even for those not on the team, the wooden walls and the lake outside the window clearly showed he wasn’t in Queens. Peter really hope nobody would notice, but with his Parker luck, he knew they would.
His computer gave us soft beep, notifying the class was starting and soon his screen began to populate with small videos of each of his classmates, Mr. Harrington at top.
“Okay everyone,” Mr. Harrington began, “With this being our first video class we’re going to go over a couple ground rules. Video cameras and microphones are to be turned on at all times. So, please make sure you are in a quiet area to not disturb the class.”
The few blank rectangles changed into the remaining classmates’ video feeds. It was weird to see everyone like this, getting a peak at the inside of their homes. Also, some clearly didn’t care at all and were obviously wearing pajamas instead of the clothes they usually wore to school.
“Thank you,” Mr. Harrington said. “Let’s move onto today’s lesson.”
Mr. Harrington then proceeded to launch in to the days topic. Peter, however, was distracted by the group chat that Mr. Harrington was apparently unaware of. Everyone was chatting, catching up with one another and commenting each other’s rooms. And just as for seen, many of them picked up on Peter’s unusual surroundings.
Several were asking where Peter was, including Flash. Peter pointedly ignored all the questions and pretended to be focusing on Mr. Harrington.
Soon Peter even began to feel his phone vibrating. Text were coming through from various academic Decathlon members, asking the same question Peter was ignoring on the chat. Peter just turned his phone off and slid it away from him.
Peter got away with this for a whole twelve minutes before his luck really stuck.
His door slammed open, and with an excited, “Petey!” he found himself with an over excited five year old.
“I want you to come play with me,” Morgan said, sprawling out over him, Peter struggling to keep her from falling off his lap.
“Mo, I can’t,” Peter said. “Remember I told you last night I was starting school today. I have to be on this call.”
Morgan just pouted about him.
“What the heck?” shouted Flash from his computer. “Pen- I mean Peter, who is the girl?”
“Uhhhh… my sister,” Peter said smoothly.
“Peter, we know you don’t have a sister,” Abe spoke up. “Plus where are you even?”
“Uhhh…” Peter said, racking his brain for a viable answer. Unfortunately, all intelligence had abandon his mind, leaving an Error 404, brain not found message. All he could do was sit there, gaping at both Morgan and his class on the computer.
If he didn’t think anything could get worse, that was the exact moment that Tony freaking Stark decided to waltz to his room and into the frame of the camera.
“Morgan,” The man chided. “I told you Peter was busy and not to be disturbed.”
“But, I want him to play with me,” Morgan said, standing her ground.
“I know, baby, but you’re just gonna have to wait a little bit later to play with Peter. Now come on, mom is making pancakes. If we go now, I bet we could sneak some chocolate chips into it,” Tony said with a conspiratorial grin.
The young girl’s face lit up at that and jumped off Peter’s lap, into her father’s arms. Said man then looked directly into Peter’s laptop camera and said, “Sorry about that teach. There shouldn’t be any more interruptions.”
He then turned towards Peter and said, “I’ll make sure Pep sets your pancakes aside for you after class, Bambino.”
With a wink and a cheeky grin Tony then left the room, Morgan in his arms. Peter stared at his now closed bedroom door in shock. He had just been played. Peter would bet all the money he owned that Tony was the one behind Morgan coming into his room. What for, he could only guess.
Peter return back to his laptop as a whole class erupt it into chaos. Peter just dropped his head into his hands as Mr. Harrington tried to gain control once again.
After several minutes the class finally calmed down. Then Ned just had to pipe up.
“He did tell you all that he had an internship with Tony Stark.”
Chaos erupted once more.
