Chapter Text
Jeremy’s POV
I'm starting to get sick and tired of how much I have to deal with now that I'm a hunter and know about the supernatural part of the world. At first I thought the only thing I really had to deal with was finding my soulmate then getting to know them and bonding and so on. Then my sister met Stefan and Damon followed him and so much more followed them creating the train wreck that became my life.
Of course at first it seemed awesome that there were vampires, witches, werewolves and ghosts and all that. It is any kids dream really that there are creatures like that since it always seems so cool in different movies and shows and all that. The reality is far from as awesome as you think it is as a kid.
There is a lot more pain, suffering, betrayal and death involved and when you are just a human there is not a lot you can do to keep yourself safe. Especially if you have a sister like mine who constantly was trying to protect me from it all and did it in the worst way she could have. Having one of her vampire friends take the memory of any of the supernatural things I had seen and trying to send me away.
Now I’m a member of the Brotherhood of the Five who hunts vampires, my own sister is a vampire as well as being the only living member of my family, and my soulmate is the least of my problems. At least that is what I thought till I met him.
As far back as I can remember I've heard stories about soulmates and what it meant to be able to find yours, the person that was destined to complete you before either of you were even born. The person that was made specifically for you just as they were specifically made for you, the two pieces that were meant to fit together no matter the challenge. All you had to do in order to get this wonderful thing, was find whoever your soulmate is which could be a pretty hard thing since they could literally live anywhere.
Just because you were soulmates didn’t mean that it was going to be easy. The universe apparently really likes to mess with people since some people never meet their soulmate because they live nowhere near each other and could never realistically meet. There are so many people living in the world and I do not think that it is really possible to meet your soulmate unless by some amazing luck you live in the same town or end up going to the same school or college or something.
Once you meet your soulmate though, you know that you have and there is no way to mistake it for something that it isn’t. It’s not like we all have some mark on us or something like that that matches with your soulmate and that is how you find each other. It is actually a bit more magical than that, and now that I know about the supernatural and there actually being witches it is kinda funny to me.
From what I have been told and based on the stories I heard about from people I knew that had found their soulmate, something happens when you first make eye contact with each other. They haven’t always known how to explain it, how to put it into words but that isn’t really such a new thing. Emotions and other feelings can be really hard to express, difficult to explain to other people since words can be not enough most of the time no matter what language you say it in.
It seems like something that is not easy to describe, but in each story when you make eye contact it is like you are then locked in place and no matter what you try you won’t be able to move. You’ll just stand frozen where you are staring into each others eyes and some feeling will run down your spine and it will feel like your heart is getting warmer. You will feel like you have gotten a sudden chill but your heart will remains warm and it will feel like it is going to melt a hole in your chest.
When you see each other your hearts will recognize each other and they will finally be connected with the other part they are meant to be connected with and the warm feeling is the bridge being formed. You have a sort of link with your soulmate where you are able to know how they are feeling and you can reach out through this link and take strength from them. You are stronger once you have found your soulmate, and you are whole.
With me being a hunter and there being vampires and stuff I thought things couldn’t get any crazier and then the Original family came into Mystic Falls and we had to deal with almost all of them. Klaus was definitely the worst especially since he tried to have me killed and tried to kill my sister but the others that were here helped him. Things calmed down a bit and went back to whatever normal is for us until some other threat came out of the woodwork and brought the Original family back.
When one of the Originals comes to town you know that there is something going on and that things are most likely going to get a bit crazy and people were going to get hurt and possibly get killed. If it is Elijah you know that it won’t be as bad as it would be for Klaus or Kol or even some younger vampires that have trouble controlling their instincts. But when more than just one of the Originals comes into town at the same time, things are really bad and they are only going to get worse before it gets better eventually.
I'm not happy that they are back or that all of them seem to have come, but I know that this time it is good that they are all on the same side and that that side is ours as well. Even if you don't like vampires or witches or werewolves, when it comes down to it you want them to be on the same side they are on if you can help it. They invited us to come to their home so we could all be introduced to each other properly and so we could share what we know about what might be coming, this new threat that will be coming after all of us no matter what we are or what we believe in.
My sister is going to be arriving with the Salvator brothers, I know that Caroline and Tyler will be arriving together which leaves me to arrive with Bonnie and Alaric. Honestly I would rather be arriving with them, it is still a bit hard to be around the Salvator’s, especially Damon. I still don't really like him and wanted to kill him before I became a hunter and now that I'm a hunter I have a better chance if I do end up fighting him. Which of course is not good since my sister likes him, but it can be hard to think of her as my sister when she looses herself a bit since she is now a vampire.
It has been hard to keep myself from trying to kill Elena, Stefan or Damon when they get on my nerves thanks to this whole supernatural hunter thing, but that isn’t the only reason. Stefan was never a dick to me, not really no matter what was going on with him or between him and my sister. Damon is a whole other story but I can't really hold that against him, it is just how he is due to how he grew up and all that other stuff.
With Elena though, you would think that since she is my sister I would be able to keep the instinct to kill her under a bit more control than with the Salvator’s. With all that she has done to mess with my memories even if in her mind it was to keep me safe, she took part of my life away from me, my memories of people I cared about. She may say she did it to protect me, but there was definitely some thought about protecting herself as well in there.
Back to the matter at hand, I can rant about my self-righteous sister later. I didn’t really mean to be the first one there with Alaric and Bonnie, but something told me to get there before my sister and I can't really explain it. It is this weird feeling in my gut, something that I only really noticed me having after I became a member of the Brotherhood of the Five. It might be part of what I got because of it, but I don't really know for sure since I don't really have anyone that I could or can ask about it.
We have pulled up outside the massive and grand house that the Mikaelson siblings live in while they are here and are waiting for a moment by the car. We may all be on the same side, but that doesn’t mean that we completely trust the Mikaelson’s especially with all that has happened between us all. It can be a bit hard to completely trust the man that tried to kill you multiple times along with your sister and other friends. I may not be able to kill any of the Mikaelson’s for good since we don't have any white oak stakes and we also don't have any of those mystical silver daggers, but I still don't feel right having nothing on me.
They may be the Original vampires but that doesn’t mean that vervain and a normal stake are completely useless against them if absolutely needed. The vervain might not hurt them for too long, but it can give you a few seconds to try and think of something else and it can also be used to make sure they can't compel you.
Then the wooden stake of course is not able to kill them permanently, but it can take one of them down for a few hours which will give you a bit more time than the vervain does. Of course taking a wooden stake anywhere will hurt them, but it isn’t enough to really justify trying, better to just try for their heart and hope for the best.
When Alaric and I have both checked to make sure that we have our vervain and wooden stakes along with whatever other fun surprises we have hidden right now, we nod to each other before turning to look at Bonnie. She may just be a witch, she may be very powerful, but even she is still nervous about going into the home of the Mikaelson’s especially when apparently they are all going to be there.
Locking the car, we begin walking towards the front door and something inside me tells me that the Mikaelson’s know that we are here. If they were going to turn on us or if this was just a trap this would be the time they would strike, but nothing happens. We make it to the front door and after a moment I raise my hand and knock firmly on the door and almost instantly it is opened and Rebekah stands in front of us.
She looks at us up and down for a moment and I can't tell what she is thinking but before I have time to put more thought into it she speaks and breaks my concentration. “The first three to arrive, how lovely. This day will only get better from here when the rest of them arrive. At least some of you are better than others. Come in, come in. My siblings are all in the living room, we can wait there for the others to get here before we start sharing things.”
With this Rebekah turns around promptly and begins walking quickly back into the house leaving us to hurry after her. Alaric goes first with Bonnie following close behind which leaves me to take the rear and close the front door after I have made it into the house. It is such a big place and it is far too quiet to put me at ease as I hurry to catch up with Bonnie and Alaric as they follow Rebekah.
When we make it into the living room I can see that the Mikaelson’s really all do seem to be here which means this really is serious. It wasn’t just a rumor that they were all going to be coming here to Mystic Falls which is a good thing and a bad thing. It’s bad because they are all here which means it is only a matter of time before someone gets killed, but it is a good thing because it wasn’t a rumor.
Now we know for sure that the people that told us about the Mikaelson’s all coming do actually know things and aren’t just trying to make some rumor and scare us or try to prove that they are useful or something like that. They actually know things that can be helpful and they have contacts that can keep us informed of what is going on in the supernatural community all over the world. Rebekah is making her way back to a really fancy and old looking dark brown leather couch that Kol is already sitting on.
Off to their left on our right side there is a dark brown leather armchair that is also fancy and old looking that holds Klaus who is lounging with his legs stretched out in front of him, his arms resting on his lap. Like normal, Klaus is watching us with a smirk and a strange gleam in his eye that either means he finds this situation interesting or he is planning on killing or maiming someone very soon.
Of course Elijah is looking very stern and proper while standing straight and calmly behind the chair that Klaus is sitting in. They might all be a family, siblings that have lived with each other for centuries on and off, but Klaus and Elijah are closer than the others. Wherever Klaus is, there is a very good chance that Elijah is there somewhere as well, hidden in the shadows or in the next room until he is needed for something. He is Klaus’ shadow, the loyal dog that follows behind snapping at any that get too close to the one he is loyal to.
Elijah is fiercely protective and ready to do whatever it takes to ensure all of his family, especially Klaus, are safe and that they are as happy as they can be. Elijah has always been my favorite of the Originals, he is the one that won’t kill you just because he can or because he is bored. That sadly makes him better than the others since most of them like to cause chaos and spill blood wherever they find themselves, not every thinking of trying to keep their existence a secret. That was always what Elijah did, there behind them cleaning up the messes that they made in an effort to keep them safe.
Across from where Klaus is sitting with Elijah standing sentinel behind him is the brother I never really heard much about, Finn. All I really know is that he is older than Elijah, he spent the most time out of any of them in a coffin with a mystical silver dagger in his chest courtesy of Klaus, and he doesn’t like being a vampire. He is the brother that was the closest to their mother, the one that always sided with her and would have rather died than live as the monster that his mother turned him into.
There is another man who is standing a bit behind the couch Rebekah and Kol are on, but his back is to us right now and I can't get a good look at him. I'll have to wait until he turns around to be able to get a read on him, but from the pull in my gut I know that he is a vampire and since he is in the home of the Mikaelson’s, he is most likely and Original vampire as well. Which means that there really are six Originals living on the earth and one of them I didn’t even really know existed. From the startled look on Alaric’s face and the confusion on Bonnie’s, they also didn’t seem to know about this other Original brother.
From what I can tell before my attention is pulled to Klaus, this new brother is one of the older ones, definitely older than Klaus and maybe older than Elijah. He is holding himself in a way that is more like Elijah and Finn than Klaus or Kol which tells me that he is a bit more serious or something like that. He doesn’t seem like the type to cause chaos for no reason other than for his own entertainment and the sheer pleasure of killing people and being covered in their blood and other bits of them.
“Well well well. Little witch, Alaric and of course the young hunter. Welcome to our home for the moment while we are here in your little town. You of course know my sister Rebekah and my brothers Kol, Finn and Elijah. After all you have met all of them before on various occasions in the past few years.”
Klaus lets out a chuckle that sends a shiver down my spine and makes me glad that I have a few things to use in my defense if it comes to that. Kol is also smirking while watching us with Rebekah smiling beside him. Finn remains where he is sitting and he seems to be as bored with that is happening as he was when we first walked into the room. My attention is pulled to Elijah as he lets out a sigh and I feel a bit bad for him as he rubs his right eyebrow while shaking his head slightly.
“Brother please, we have not invited them here to simply torment and tease them so please, behave yourself. Rebekah and Kol, you as well I do not simply mean Niklaus.” His siblings all grumble to themselves while Elijah turns to face us and smiles reassuringly. “My apologies for my siblings, it has been a bit since we have all been together in addition to this new truce we are forming. The one brother of ours you have not met is the oldest of us all, he was the first born of our dear parents Esther and Mikael. Brother, please. Come meet the Witch Bonnie Bennett, the human hunter Alaric Saltzman and the hunter Jeremy Gilbert, a member of the Brotherhood of the Five.”
The man that had been standing with his back to us has turned around and is moving closer to stand behind the couch the youngest Mikaelson’s are sitting on. “Yes brother I am coming, I have no intention of being rude.” The mans voice is soft and calm just like Elijah’s, and there is some accent there but I really can't tell what it is much like with some of his siblings.
Some of the Originals have distinctive accents that can be identified easily as from somewhere in England. This brother is more like Elijah where he has an accent, but it is a strange combination that can't really be placed in a category. It is distinct though to him and even if it is a little like Elijah’s it isn’t exactly the same which makes it one that will stand out just like with Elijah or with any of the other Originals. It must be good for them in some way and in some situations to have accents that make them stand out, but it can also be bad.
“This is our eldest brother Deimos. Deimos, meet three of those from Mystic falls we will be aligning ourselves with for what is to come.” Elijahs voice keeps me focused on him and as soon as he has stopped speaking I turn my attention to the eldest brother, Deimos, to actually get a good look at him.
As soon as I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine I immediately feel like I have been frozen in place, like I couldn’t move no matter what I tried or what was going on around me. I am locked in place staring into Deimos’ eyes with a chill running down my spine as my heart begins to beat faster and feels so hot that it could melt a hole in my chest and just fall onto the floor in front of me. Staring into his eyes I can tell he feels the same thing as a strange feeling, almost like a string wrapping around my heart and forming a connection with the heart of the man standing frozen across from me.
I feel a sudden rush of strength flow through me, a warm feeling filling me up as a bridge is being built between us, connecting our hearts and our minds. I feel whole, like I am complete for the first time ever and it brings pure happiness to my heart and my mind as I feel my body unlocking, but I remain standing still where I am.
I know what has just happened, but I don't think that I have really processed it properly yet and I don't think that I'm going to be able to move on my own until I do. Everyone else in the room is staring at us in shock and silence, I'm not sure they really know what to do or what they should say either right now. I think that this is a big shock to everyone here whether they are a witch, a human or one of the Original vampires.
Before anyone can say anything or make a move towards either of us Deimos makes a strange sound that sounds like a mix of a sigh and a whimper before he is suddenly standing by my side and wrapping his arms around my waist. His grip tightens and before I can try and free myself or hold onto him he is lifting me up and moving faster than I can follow and the silence and darkness of the night swallows us.
