Drinking Buddies

Summary:

Just a usual night at Molly’s turns out not to be so usual

Notes:

Hi again!!

I hope everyone is doing okay after these two rough weeks for Chicago Fire fans. I’m still in complete shock that Jesse actually left the show. It hurts, not gonna lie, it’s not what we expected from season 10, it’s supposed to be their season finally! But they’re still endgame and they still love each other, so that’s what keeps me going! And I hope that one day we’ll see our Captain again and our favorite couple. Sending you all a big hug! And I’ll still keep writing for them, I still have hope and some ideas, I hope you keep reading as well.

So this is something that I want now from the show, now is the perfect chance writers, give me some SYLVERIDE friendship asap!

Enjoy reading!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Hey, this seat taken?” Severide asks as he approaches Sylvie at the bar, noticing her sitting alone all night, not in her usual mood when she’s at Molly’s.

Well no one can blame her, it’s been only three weeks since Casey moved to Oregon, and all this was still fresh and new, hell it was hard for him too. He wasn’t at the loft, he wasn’t at the firehouse, he missed his best friend, as well as everyone at 51, but he knew it was especially difficult for her.

She looks at him, with a soft smile, “well, I guess it’s gonna be taken now,” she jokes.

He chuckles and sits down next to her. “So how is it going Brett?”

“Good, I guess, this whole program got me a little exhausted, but it’s also been great,” she answers, finishing her drink.

“Well that’s really great to hear, but I meant you. How you’re doing, I mean the whole thing with Casey, I know it’s been hard for you, well for me too, but you know what I mean, you okay?”

She blinks a few times at him, and then flashes a brief smile at him, “thank you for asking Kelly, I’m good, I mean it’s been hard the first few days and still is, but I’m getting used to it. I miss him, but we’ll see each other again.”

“That’s good to hear,” he says with a smile and takes a long sip from his beer.

“And you, I know you miss him too,” she teases, knowing that Kelly Severide is not really the guy to talk about his feelings.

“Yeah, I’ve missed that grumpy old man,” he jokes, causing her to laugh. It’s the first good laugh in weeks.

“I don’t think he would like you calling him a grumpy old man,” Sylvie says.

“Well, he won’t know unless you tell him, right Brett?” Kelly teases.

“So you’re asking me to keep this a secret, huh?”

He laughs and stays silent.

She furrows her brows and looks at him curiously, “what?”

“I know you can’t keep a secret to save your own life, so nevermind.”

“Fair point.”

“Hey, you two, having fun, need more drinks?” Stella asks as she comes to the bar.

She just got back from Boston, and she was working tonight.

“Actually, I was just about…” Sylvie says, as she starts to get up, but Kelly waves her down.

“Yeah, me and Brett are doing shots tonight, since no one wants to drink with me,” Kelly says, as he pointedly looks at his fiancée.

“I told you I’m working tonight,” Stella says as she rolls her eyes at him. “Brett?”

She looks between them a few more seconds before she sits back down and  answers, “sure, why not?”

“Yeah, that’s the spirit!” Kelly says as he excitedly claps his hands together.

And so they started drinking. Drinking with Kelly Severide was not on her list tonight, or any other day, but why not? She needed a distraction from everything else and this was just a perfect chance.

“No way you guys are going there for the bachelorette party, just no,” Kelly says, as he looks at Brett’s phone.

She quickly turns her phone away from, “hey, this is girls talking, it’s none of your business, shut up there.” Sylvie answers, sounding way more drunk than Kelly.

“Yeah, go away. If guys can go to Vegas for a bachelor party, girls can too,” Stella says, as she throws her cloth at him.

Kelly rolls his eyes at her, “whatever, by the way you have customers waving at you back there.”

Stella quickly runs to their table. Just in that moment Sylvie’s phone rings and her face lights up in a second.

It was Matt requesting facetime.

“Hey babe!!” She answers excitedly and a little louder than she expected.

“Hi, I see someone is in a good mood,” Matt says, as he smiles brightly at her. His warm smile melted her heart in a second.

“Yeah, I am at Molly’s. Guess who’s been drinking with me tonight,” she says with a smirk.

“Who?” He asks curiously, biting inside his cheek, to stop himself laughing at his girlfriend. She was pretty adorable when drunk, and funny.

“Your bestie!!” Sylvie says too loud again.

“Cheez Brett, calm down.” Kelly says, a little grumpy from his seat.

“Severide?” Matt asks in disbelief.

“Yeah, dumbass, how many besties do you have?” Kelly asks as he comes closer to look at the phone. “You better not make any good friends there, I’m serious.”

Matt laughs at his best friend and girlfriend being drunk, his laugh radiating through the phone, instantly making Sylvie and Kelly laugh too. Man, she missed him, and his laugh and smile, and everything about him.

“Copy that,” Matt chuckles.

“I miss you,” Sylvie suddenly says, her smile slightly dropping from her face.

“I miss you too baby.”

“Okay, I’m out,” Kelly says as he starts walking toward the bathroom, nearly tripping over a chair, causing both Matt and Sylvie to laugh.

“You okay there bud?” Matt asks, holding back his laugh.

“Yeah, fine,” he waves, “you two keep flirting.”

They both laugh, and Sylvie turns her attention back to the phone.

“So, I see I’m missing a drunk Sylvie Brett appearance, damn,” Matt teases as he smirks at her.

“God, I’m gonna regret this tomorrow, won’t I?” Sylvie says as her head falls down.

“Probably,” he smiles, “but at least you had a good time, right?”

“I guess,” she shrugs, “but it would be much better if you were here.” She admits. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to turn this into me whining.”

“No, it’s okay, I’ve been whining without you too here,” he says with a soft smile. “But I know we’ll get through this, because I love you and the first chance I get I’ll be visiting.”

She smiles at his words, a smile that he missed so much, his favorite sight.

“I love you too, talk to you tomorrow, when I’m sober enough?”

“Okay, good night.” With that they hang up.

“So, are we getting more drinks or what?” Kelly asks as he comes back and sits again next to her.

“More?”

“Hell yeah, the night is not over yet.”

And so they keep drinking until they’re both down.

Everyone left already, well unless Kelly and Sylvie. They both passed out at the bar half an hour ago. Stella was cleaning the tables and was getting ready to close. But she had a problem, two problems actually. How to get these two out of here?

“Okay, sleeping beauties, it’s time to go home, wake up!” Stella said as she slapped her hand over the bar, next to their heads.

“Five more minutes mom,” Sylvie said sleepily from her seat.

Stella burst out laughing. “What? Oh my God Brett, you’re adorable when you’re drunk,” she said as she pinched her cheek lightly. “I gotta take a picture.”

She took her phone from her pocket and snapped a few pictures. They were hilarious, Kelly was sleeping at the bar, while Sylvie was also sleeping at the other end of the bar.

She thought that Casey needed to see this so she typed a quick message and sent it.

“Look at these two, both drunk and sleeping, too bad you missed it!! And don’t worry, I’ll make sure they’re both back home and safe.”

When Casey saw the text he just laughed and was happy because he knew that Sylvie wasn’t alone, she had the best family being there for her when she needed it. Also he was gonna tease them with this photo for the rest of their lives, it was too good not to.

Somehow Stella managed to wake them up and so they drove home, since the loft was closer to the bar than Sylvie’s apartment, she just decided to put Brett in Casey’s room. Plus it’s better for her not to be alone tonight while she’s drunk like this.

The next morning she wakes up and her head is heavy and ringing like a bell. Actually, it’s not a bell, it’s her phone ringing and buzzing against the wood.

She slowly reaches her hand and takes the phone from a nightstand, swiping it and answering.

“Hey, sorry to wake you up. Just wanted to check on you. You okay?” He asks as he smiles at her with a sympathetic look.

She straightens herself up and leans against the headboard.

“No, it’s fine. It’s almost noon anyway. God, I feel like my head will explode or something,” she says through laughter.

“Well, it’s not surprising,” he jokes.

“And my neck hurts, like I was sleeping on the floor.”

He held back a laugh, remembering the picture that Stella sent him last night.

She looks at him confused, brows furrowing. “What?”

“You don’t remember?”

She still looks confused at him.

He finally laughs, “you and Kelly both fell asleep on the bar and Stella of course sent me a picture.”

“Oh, God. Of course she would do something like that.” Sylvie chuckles.

“Brett, are you alive in there?” She hears Stella yelling from the kitchen.

“Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute,” she yells back, “to kill you!!”

Stella laughs, “oh, so you know about the photo?”

Sylvie stays silent, rolling her eyes.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

“It’s weird being here without you,” she says quietly, looking around his old room.

“And it’s weird for me not seeing you in person every day, but guess what?” Matt says excitedly.

“What?”

“I have a date when I’ll be visiting.”

Her mouth fell open and her smile grew from ear to ear. “What? Really? When?” She yells excitedly.

“Yeah, I’ll be home for Thanksgiving, so in less than a month, I’ll be finally with you again,” Matt says as he smiles at her.

“That’s amazing, I can’t wait!”

“Me too. I gotta go now, I need to pick some groceries, I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Sure, it was still a month away, but she couldn’t wait for him to come, she missed him and she couldn’t wait to show him just how much.

“Morning, doing okay Brett, need some of these?”

Kelly teases as he takes a couple of pills and a glass of water.

“Very much,” she chuckles, “thanks.”

“So I guess we’re drinking buddies now,” Kelly jokes as he leans on the counter.

“Funny,” she rolls her eyes, “but thanks, I think it was definitely something I needed.”

“Anytime,” he says and gives her a small smile.
