The feeling of relief at the knowledge that one of his brothers survived, that he wasn’t all alone and too late to remember just what he had lost - after he had lost it - was enough for Sabo to be happy that Luffy had hugged him tight.
The tears he could feel dripping on his face only supported that fact, that Luffy had believed to be all alone after Ace’s passing. That despite everything, and his dark haired brothers no doubt believing that he had died as a child at sea, Luffy hadn’t expected him to be here - yet here he was.
Letting the younger man place his feet on the ground, Sabo didn’t let go, but rather tucked the other man under his chin (it was nice being older, and as such taller than his brother) pressing a kiss to the crown of Luffy’s head as the other wrapped his arms around him several times, keeping a firm hold on him as they both tried to make sense of the fact that they weren’t alone.
“I almost feared I had lost you too.”
Luffy hummed, snottering, before he pulled back, “We were so sure you were lost to us, Sabo. Ace cried… Ace… He never knew you survived.”
Sabo shook his head, “I… I lost my memories because of the accident, only remembered when his death was announced in the papers. I hated myself for not being there for him, for both of you. And when you kept quiet for 2 years I feared that I had lost you too.”
Feeling Luffy snuggle closer, Sabo gave a tight smile, “Will you let me get it, Ace’s fruit?”
Luffy nodded, “I don’t know if I would be able to trust anyone else with it, so yes. He would have wanted that.”
Sabo nodded, “I will get it, I promise.”
