Nandor was in his palace again after all these years. His country was never gone; he was walking at a slow pace. He had to burn this in his mind. His home is back. Everything was just the same the day his wives all packed up and left him his kids in tow all gone. The palace was empty even though his servants weren’t there for his arrival, only the birds singing in the morning sun.
The sun…how long was it when he had the sun on his skin. How long was it when he was home? Where was everyone else? Where was Guillermo? Nandor ran to the nearest exit to one of his courtyards filled with flowers and trees bearing fruits from his many conquests. Why was he here? He looked around the maze of his courtyard till he heard laughter and ran towards the sound. Finally, in a clearing with bushes of color-shifting roses sitting on the stone bench was Guillermo holding a small green flower. His glass hanging from a simple white tunic and his curls framing his face. His hair was filled with flowers, his eyes closed in a peaceful smile.
The blessing had a name and his name was Guillermo and he was everything that Nandor wasn’t. A holy being, an angel sent by Allah to bring Nandor’s bridge from the fiery pits of damnation. Guillermo opened his eyes and smiled “Nandor would you like some apple slices?”
Nandor’s stomach growled an answer while Nandor the person was lost for words. With a small gesture beckoning him to sit with him. Next to Nandor was a beauty who was offering slices of his humanity back to him one by one. Nandor didn’t know if his fangs would ever come back but Guillermo is here; he's willing to vomit it all out if it makes Guillermo happy to have him back.
Nandor didn’t want to ruin this moment. Not yet his darkness wouldn’t plague Guillermo; he won't let it. Guillermo’s fingers brush his lips while he feeds Nandor. “Why aren’t you closer to me Nandor?” Guillermo looked worried. “It will be easier to feed you if you lay your head on my lap.” Nandor hesitated “What if I hurt you?” Guillermo smiled, “You wouldn’t hurt me, Nandor.”
His head was now on Guillermo’s lap who was now brushing his hair out of his face and smiled and whispered “My Nandor.”
Nandor was lost for words. Guillermo’s smile became the sun and slowly the darkness threaded back to the corner of Nandor's mind. They will be back but right now it’s just Nandor and his former familiar/ bodyguard named Guillermo. Nandor closed his eyes and thought ‘I don’t want to ruin this.’
Slowly Nandor’s fangs grew Guillermo stopped feeding apple slices and whispered to Nandor “He’s back master.” Nandor opened his eyes and standing in front of Guillermo was the rotting corpse of Jahan. “You will push everyone who cares about you away, even him.”
Then the palace dissolved, including Guillermo and Jahan. He was falling into the dark abyss. His home vanishes right before his eyes. Jahan’s neigh echoes through his head. Guillermo was gone Nandor tried to reach towards his vanished form but all he was grasping was not there.
Then he stopped falling and he was back at the theater tied to a chair watching helplessly as his familiar butchering through the crowd of vicious vampires. Through it, all Guillermo still looked breathtaking. While the bodies pile up Nandor falls for Guillermo more and more. Guillermo had a silent grace with his use of holy relics to stakes. Standing on the bodies of vampires was his Guillermo.
His Guillermo together again holding each other and everything is right in the world again. Nandor got up to walk over to Guillermo past the bodies not even to glance at his roommates. Only to Guillermo who raised his arms to hug Nandor. “Master, I was so worried I’m so sorry.” Guillermo’s face was covered in blood spatters and his eyes filled with tears of joy. ‘Guillermo, khoshgele you saved me.’ Nandor returned the hug holding Guillermo. Daring not to let each other go ever again.
Nandor finally woke up to the moon rising through the window of his seat. He quickly looked at the seats around him still empty. The feeling came back that Guillermo called grief. Just the thought of him brought it back. Guillermo brought many feelings into Nandor life. The farther the train went the farther they are apart from each other. It was only him and the moon for now.
