Chapter Text
Hell’s brighter these days. Chloe lay beside him, so beautiful and divine and his that he still can’t quite believe he’s not imagining her presence, so akin is it to something which he could have dreamed up – yet better in every possible way. They wake up together in their own personal Heaven. Except it’s not Heaven at all, it’s quite the opposite. And yet, still it’s a paradise of their own making.
It’s peaceful in a way he never thought he would come to find. Picturesque in a way he wasn’t sure even existed. The gentle light shines in around them, no less Heavenly than its namesake, flooding the bedroom with warmth and happiness – a happiness he found himself basking in every day since this has become their reality. Since Chloe joined him for an eternity of tender moments and sweet glances, of the laughs and smiles of raising children together (and no matter how old they’d gotten, both being young ladies now, they were still children and he told them as such). Since all the pieces fell into place and everything within him finally felt whole. Since he found his home – right here with those he loved most.
He’s taking joy in the little things – never letting a moment pass without appreciating the once inconceivable love, care, and acceptance surrounding him, filling him with a light that surges within his being every moment of every day. Because they’re together now – and nothing… nothing will keep them apart. And even still, he can’t help but think how every moment of separation, though unbearably difficult, was worth the endless moments of pure joy he now gets to experience. That they all do. Cause he knows one thing is for sure – no matter how unexpected this life has become, how unpredictable and wonderfully overwhelming, he wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The smile widens on Lucifer's face as he turns towards Chloe, wrapped comfortably in his arms as they enjoy each other’s presence, their soothing touches and wordless reassurances, all the time in the world (and even more than that, for it’s truly endless, he keeps reminding himself) to show each other how much they are loved. It’s said very often in words, making him marvel at how easy those words had become when he once didn’t think he was worthy of their utterance. And it’s also not – every look, every touch, every smile saying far more than anything they could give voice to, this shared understanding between their very souls.
She cuddles further into him, humming contentedly as she closes her eyes once again, both so at peace as they simply let the quiet rest over them like a blanket. It’s beautiful, he thinks; soothing and undisturbed and—
“Daaad!”
Never lasts long… that was it.
He hears Rory’s shout from a few rooms away, no doubt to complain about something she and Trixie had gotten up to – dangerously mischievous, those two were, when you put them together. Oh, the woes of having an immortal teenager around – besides himself, that is. He groans, the prospect of getting up and leaving this perfectly contained bubble of peace unappealing, though he knew staying in bed had already been a lost cause at this point.
Chloe laughs at his obvious (and feigned) annoyance, turning over within his arms, eyes peering up to him innocently as a smile breaks out across her face. The sight alone is enough to make him not mind the interruption much at all.
“It’s your turn now,” she whispers to him, unable to keep the amusement from her voice. It’s also something, he notes, she has been telling him ever since their daughters came home – though he supposed it was only fair, he did have a few decades to make up for after all. When he makes no effort to move, she only pats his arm in encouragement, looking to him expectantly and… well, he certainly couldn’t deny her when she was, quite frankly, looking so adorable.
Still, he lets out a heavy sigh, resigned to his fate as he makes to begrudgingly remove himself from her embrace. She holds him back at the last moment, causing him to look back to her curiously.
“I love you, babe,” she simply tells him.
“Lucifer, come on!” he hears Trixie shout, having joined in the excitement Rory no doubt riled up within her. Whatever it was, he surely wouldn’t be one to leave them waiting.
He laughs, smiling fondly, chest bursting with affection as he looks to Chloe. “Love you too, darling. And them,” he nods out to the hallway. “You three are my entire universe.”
She smiles, that bright, blazing smile just for him – uncontained love and joy written within every one of her features. “Mine too.”
