Work Text:
“Ryuzaki, we’re going to be late.”
Light had attempted to wake L up multiple times, to no avail. He did what he could to start himself getting ready for the day while still attached to the sleeping L, but that was not much.
“WAKE UP!!” He raised his voice, throwing a pillow at Ls head.
L groaned, and pulled the pillow over his head, curling up into a ball.
Light huffed and sat down again next to him. “Fine. I guess the worlds greatest detective won’t be catching Kira today, then.”
L groaned again, rolling over to face Light. “I can catch Kira from here.” He mumbled in response.
“You’re just going to work in bed all day? God you’re lazy Ryuzaki.”
L covered his face with his arm as he coughed, “I don’t feel very good, Light. I would rather work from here.”
Light's feeling of frustration with the man changed to one of concern, as he reached his hand out to feel the back of Ls forehead with his hand. “Jesus Ryuzaki, you’re really hot.”
“Hmm. I know. “
“Ugh. Shut up. I’m being serious. You have a fever. Do you have any medicine?”
“Mm. Bathroom.” L mentioned sleepily, curling himself up again looking ready to go back to sleep.
“Give me the key, so i can get it for you and you won’t have to get up.”
“No.”
“Why?, I’ll be right there, and it’ll all be on camera anyway. You’re sick, You should stay in bed.”
Barely opening his eyes, L slowly dragged himself out of bed. Making the task look near impossible.
“‘Okay Light, let’s go”
He took only a few steps before he began to sway, his legs nearly buckling beneath him. He held his head in his hand. Light came to his side and put an arm around him “Are you okay?”
“Dizzy.”
Despite this, and his barely conscious state he still insisted on accompanying Light through everything, lest he be Kira and was somehow scheming to take advantage of Ls poorly state.
Finally Light had gathered up supplies, including some breakfast for them both, both of their laptops to work from bed, and sick supplies.
L collapsed back onto the bed, out of breath from the short trip.
“Here, take your temperature.” Light held his hand out to pass the thermometer to L, but his eyes remained closed. He did, however, open his mouth.
Light rolled his eyes, “Seriously, Ryuzaki? It’s like taking care of a child.”
But he stuck the thermometer in, and L closed his mouth. Light waited for the beep.
“39.5. That’s quite a fever you’ve got there…here take these, they’ll help bring it down.”
Light popped two pills from the packet and passed them to L, along with some water.
He made a disgusted look, but took them nonetheless. “I’d rather something sweeter.” He mumbled.
Light sighed, once again thinking how much this felt like taking care of a child. “You’re sick, L. You need to hydrate. I’ll make you some tea later. Try and get some more sleep for now, though. I’ll check on you again in a little bit."
Light opened his laptop and got to work, occasionally glancing at the man beside him. He had quickly fallen back into a deep sleep. Light had never really seen him sleep much before, but he was glad for it, he clearly needed the rest.
He looked peaceful, comfortable, despite the occasional bout of coughing.
All of a sudden, the shrill tune of his phone ringing disturbed the silence of the room.
He scrambled to find his phone in the mess of sheets, before it awoke L, but it was too late. He was already sitting up, groaning and rubbing his eyes.
“Dad?” Light answered, speaking softly as not to disturb L further.
“Light. You two never came down for work, we were worried so we checked the surveillance. Why are you two still in bed at such an hour?"
“Oh. Shit. I meant to call. Ryuzaki’s sick, we’re working from here today.”
“Well, that’s fine, but let us know if it happens again. We were worried something might have happened to the two of you. And mind your language, son.”
Light apologised to his father before hanging up, and then apologised to L for waking him. Assuring him his phone was now on silent, and he should return to sleep.
He nodded, groaning and curling up in the blankets, and shifting over a little towards Light, who found himself reaching down to push the mans black bangs from his face, which were damp with sweat.
“You okay?”
“Mm. Hurts.” He groaned, snuggling himself into Lights side.
“Sorry. You don’t have to talk. Just let me know if you need anything.”
L nodded again. Light continued stroking his hair, and could soon hear the soft snores signalling he had once again fallen asleep
