“Oh, did you take a bath?” Mingyu says, strolling into Wonwoo’s room. Well, their room.
Wonwoo turns to face him from where he was lying on the bed, “yeah” he goes back to browsing through his phone as Mingyu climbs onto the bed after turning off the light.
As Wonwoo turns on the bed lamp, Mingyu snuggles to his side, wrapping his arms around his middle. Wonwoo doesn’t budge, already used to his lover’s habit of cuddling, and continues to scroll through Twitter, humming.
For the longest time, there is silence. And then, Mingyu speaks up, snuggling closer such that his nose is buried in Wonwoo’s neck, “I’m glad you took a bath today” he says
Wonwoo snickers, putting away his phone to lie on his side, facing his boyfriend, “why? Because I look warm and fuzzy?” he remarks about his fluffy hair, shaking his head and Mingyu chuckles, pressing a kiss to his forehead. As he combs his fingers through his hair, he exhales, “I love that too. But I’m happy because normally you’d come back home and just pass out and I wouldn’t be able to do this more often”
And Wonwoo frowns, “do wha—whoa!” Mingyu turns them, climbing over and settling in between his legs. He wraps his arms around his waist and buries his face in his chest. He hears Wonwoo’s chest rumble with laughter as a hand comes to his hair, playing with the strands.
“You’re like a big puppy” Wonwoo comments and Mingyu scoffs, “a little late to pick up on that, aren’t we?” And Wonwoo clicks his tongue at his boyfriend who looks up at him, chin on his chest. He cups his cheeks, “mind you, I was the first one ever to make that comparison” he pulls him up for a sweet kiss and Mingyu grins.
That’s true. It was in their trainee days when Mingyu, tired and desperate for rest, plopped onto Wonwoo who happened to have passed out on the floor. While Wonwoo hadn’t noticed at the time, after he woke up, he couldn’t get Mingyu to get off of him.
“Shit, you’re like a huge dog”
Mingyu remembers those words clearly, though not completely meant endearingly. But hey, they’ve come far, haven’t they? From friends to bandmates to lovers and from dog to puppy. Mingyu considers this progress.
When they pull away, Mingyu places soft kisses on his cheeks, so soft that Wonwoo doesn’t even feel them. He places one kiss on both his eyes, moving down to boop his nose with his and back to his lips.
Wonwoo giggles throughout, hand comfortingly patting his back. Mingyu continues to kiss him, and the kisses never lose their innocence and it overwhelms Wonwoo because they come from a place of intimacy and affection he hasn’t really experienced before. He sighs against his lips, making Mingyu pull back who just pulls him close and shuts his eyes.
“What’s the matter?” he asks, delighted yet confused by his boyfriend’s clinginess.
Mingyu shakes his head, “nothing, I’m just happy” and Wonwoo laughs when Mingyu kisses his neck affectionately, “it’s not nothing. Tell me, to what do I owe this pleasure?”
Mingyu chuckles, pulling away to look at Wonwoo under him. He raises a hand to caress his cheek, tracing his fingers along the cheekbones as Wonwoo’s eyes follow Mingyu’s, which study his features.
“You’re staring” Wonwoo comments and Mingyu smiles.
“How can I not? My boyfriend is the most beautiful person in the world” and Wonwoo can’t help but laugh to hide his embarrassment, hoping Mingyu won’t tease him about how even after two years of dating his words manage to make Wonwoo blush like a shy maiden in love.
Well, he’s no shy maiden but—
“Happiness looks good on you,” Mingyu says, staring into his eyes.
Wonwoo bites his lip, leaning up to kiss him, “I’m happy when I’m with you”
Mingyu sighs, “Flirt”
Wonwoo grins, “learned from the best” and pulls Mingyu in for a kiss. Mingyu kisses him back, long and firm and when he pulls back, Wonwoo sighs, noticing a slight change in his expression, “Is this about before? During the concert?”
It was during Left&Right that Wonwoo noticed his boyfriend’s gaze on him, soft and warm like it is now. It made Wonwoo shy to be honest, he couldn’t look at Mingyu without a huge grin and turned away.
Mingyu smiles,
“Yeah, when our eyes met”
“Longer than they should’ve” Wonwoo exhales. It’s been 2 years and no one knows yet. Not even their closest friends.
“I couldn’t help myself. Couldn’t take my eyes off you” Mingyu confesses, lips brushing against his cheeks.
Wonwoo enjoys his ministrations, eyes falling shut at the feeling, “then what is bothering you?” he asks
Mingyu shakes his head, “I don’t know. It’s just that…I feel weird and overwhelmed right now”
“Overwhelmed?”
“Not in a bad way. But, I just don’t know why” he reassures, “but I think it has to do with the fact that you were so hyped and happy today”
Wonwoo purses his lips, “and is that a bad thing?”
“God no” Mingyu half breathes, half gasps, “I was overwhelmed because I was happy. With Jun Hyung and Myungho gone, things haven’t been the same. You’ve been spacing out these days and with our schedule, you’re tired as well. It was…” he sighs, “really good to see you so happy, Hyung,” he says and Wonwoo blinks, touched but confused about his watery eyes, “Gyu, are you crying?”
Mingyu doesn’t seem to have realized his eyes were beginning to water and when he sniffles, he realizes.
“Ahh, this is embarrassing!” he complains, hiding his face in Wonwoo’s neck. Wonwoo giggles, “oh, Gyu. What’s there to cry about?”
Mingyu sniffles again, seemingly embracing his tears, “I don’t know. Things have been stressful these days and I just…I guess Myungho being gone is affecting me” he blabbers, “but today, when I saw you enjoying yourself, laughing and smiling, I couldn’t help but feel reassured that things will be okay. And I just…felt extremely happy that you were so happy. I’ve never felt this way before, overwhelmed because someone was happy but I did and— fuck, this is just because I think I lo—“
And Mingyu freezes.
So does Wonwoo, whose eyes widen, “what?”
For a heartbeat, Mingyu doesn’t move, he remains deathly silent. But when he notices Hyung's heart beating wildly in his chest, he raises himself to face him, “I-I just…”
Wonwoo swallows, expectant eyes urging Mingyu to go on, “yeah?”
And Mingyu thinks it’s time.
It’s about time he just realized it and it's time he says it.
He cups his cheek, eyes shifting between Wonwoo’s, finding courage.
“I love you”
And it feels like a burden has been lifted off his shoulders as if the purpose of all of this was for him to realize just how much he loves Wonwoo. To be so deeply affected by another person’s emotions, what can it be but love?
“I love you, Wonwoo Hyung” he hugs him tightly, repeating his words as if coming to terms with it.
He loves Wonwoo.
He loves Wonwoo!
“I love you too” comes a simple yet meaningful answer and Mingyu pulls away, wide-eyed.
“Hyu—“
“I love you too, Mingyu-ah” Wonwoo’s eyes sparkle as he smiles softly at him, and Mingyu can’t believe it.
“I-I didn’t mean to pressure you into saying it. Y-You can take it back—actually, no that would break my heart but—n-no you can an—“ Wonwoo shuts him up with a kiss, and Mingyu’s eyes flutter shut and his body melts against his.
“Don’t overthink it” he breathes against his lips and Mingyu nods, “okay”
Wonwoo pulls away, biting his lips as he watches Mingyu with a shy gaze, “I love you” he giggles, coy. And it makes Mingyu want to howl like a crazy wolf because he can’t believe this is real.
“I love you too!” he hugs him tighter than ever, kissing him yet again.
Their lips move together in a comfortable harmony, an exchange of love.
“So,” Mingyu begins when he pulls back to catch his breath, “celebratory sex?”
Wonwoo sighs, “you ruined the moment, Gyu”
Mingyu’s eyes widen, “w-what? You can’t break up with me y’know! Now that you told me you love me you have to marry me and grow old with me!”
Wonwoo deadpans at him and Mingyu smiles nervously, “you’re going to break up with me, aren’t you?”
And Wonwoo bursts into laughter, “no” he kisses him, “get your shirt off”
And as Mingyu swoops down to kiss him, he feels Wonwoo grin into the kiss.
And Mingyu thinks they’re going to be fine.
They will be.
